OK quick question. Is there any aftermarket muffler available that will make my 01 GTZ sounds like 350Z ? :) I don't need hp incrase, I'm only looking for that kind of sound (not too loud).

to get that type of sound. you might want to look into swapping your 6G72 for a 6G74

itll cost you about a grand and its pretty easy!

the greddy sp2 is the closest ive heard to that sound real close, u can also get the whole catback which is made for the 00-05 eclipse and extend it a bit which will give you the performance aspect as well if you change your mind, but the muffler can be had for around $100 or so while the catback is almost about 350

Doesnt the 350z have titanium exhaust? There is a thread on DSMTuners about this, let me look for it.

Its probably not going to be possible to make a 6G to sound like a VQ, the head resonance is all wrong, you could get it close through mufflers, but never exact.

gearhead is right, warmandscsi and i were talking about this the other night because the 74 sounds a little like the vq35 but the major difference is the fact that the vq has DOHC heads and more of a tubular type header setup than our cast manifolds. now, our determination is that we can get really close by going with the stage 2 cams from rpw, the long tubes and the exhaust i have right now. it is a nice sound though, the greddy TiC is bad as hell.

Thats what I'm saying, the VQ and the 6G have so much difference in their heads that its not likely that they'll sound similar. The VQ is very smooth and the 6G isnt. They sound alot closer to a ford ranger V6 then a VQ.

I drive a diamante with the 3.5 6G74... for our engine the best that Iv heard about is Flowmaster's Hushpower II muffler. Its free flowing and is pretty different internally from their other mufflers, so theres hardly any rasp and just that free flowing, powerful sound thats kinda 350z/G35-ish... But at the end of the day a 6G72 or 6G74 its never gonna sound quite as sexy as those 3.5VQ nissan engines, our mitsu engines are just outdated compared to the newer nissan units.

If anyone knows differently tho, I def have open ears and I'd love to know what to do to my 6G74 to get that same sound

He has a Maxima with the infamous VQ motor.

I been trying to replicate the 350z/ 6g72 V6 exhaust note for a while with the 4g64 platform. I can't seem to find the right combo. Closest I found was Greddy Evo2 with magnaflow high flow cats on eclipse.

A invidia might be a better choice (6g72 platform)

Our motors arent that outdated, its still a decent powerplant. It just wont sound like a VQ, it has nothing to do with the quality of motor or level of power, they just wont sound the same.

Kinda like trying to make a K20 sound like a STI, its just not going fo happen. Niether are anywhere close to outdated, they just dont sound the same.

To be honest... exhaust sound is the only thing that I like in 350Z. I was driving Touring Coupe for 2 weeks (my uncle's car) and I can tell you that it's not a car for everyday city driving in Chicago area.

interesting, I was thinking about a G35, if I ever totaled my car before 2009, whats so bad about the 350Z?

Yep G35 is better but I only drove sedan so I can't tell anything about coupe, and sedan has completely different sound. 350Z's suspension is too hard, gas consumption way too high (~15mpg city), lack of space inside and in the "trunk" and maybe it's funny but when you drive it with window half open air is coming to the cabin with such speed and angle that my neck hurt me all next day after I got this car ;)
