Well folks here are pictures of me painting my door panels, in chronological order. When I painted them I did not prime them, only reason is I kind of like the textured look about the original door panel. Let me know what you think.

Sounds kind of weird, but I used SEM Trim Black. It was suppose to dry kind of dull but ended up being almost a semi-gloss. Looks nice, I need to finish up the rest of the interior(dash, sill plates, etc.). I was thinking of wrapping some of the pillar with suede. Does any one know if the eclipse came with black seat belts? I think they did. I'll just use my mitchell books.

Love it man. That's what I'm going for. The all black looks classy. I just need to find some black seats and a steering wheel that will still have an air bag in it for legal reasons(i live in california).

A buddy or mine works at LKQ(salvage yard) and he's sending over a black steering wheel. I will try and have it installed this weekend and let everyone know how it went. Great thing is, if it doesn't work I can just send it back. And if it does, $50 is all I owe. Thanks everyone.

No problem, save them for me then we can head over to Miami to get the carbon fiber and make the switch. Def need 3g parts like front seats, steering wheel and seatbelt, it would be so stealthy

Did you also get the airbag setup apart from the steering wheel. It will definately fit, you just have to disconnect your battery when installing it so the airbags won't deploy. Looks good!

You know, it didn't come with the air bag set up. I'm actually looking for a cheap air bag setup to throw in it. Know anybody?

would that steering wheel even fit into our cars with no problems? I know the 3G wheels fit but if that fits just as well I would rather have that one.

I've been getting PM's about this wheel, sorry for the confusion, it's an eclipse steering wheel and not an Evo steering wheel. :smt102

The EVO airbag won't hook up without re-wiring it. I actually have the steering wheel and airbag, but it's missing the trim ring around the airbag/horn and the plastic casing in the back of the wheel. I guess I'll be selling it on ebay or something.

Ok, a little update on my interior. I finally received the airbag module today. As soon as I got home I installed that b*tch. Wow, installing the air bag with the steering wheel took all but 10 minutes. I was real surprised how easy it was. Everything was just plug and play. I think It looks b*tchin. I'll be spraying the dash this weekend.

Damn that looks pretty good. is that the GTS steering wheel with the radio controls on the back of it? I was looking to pick up an eclipse wheel, but the airbags are pretty costy. The steering wheel itself you can grab on EBAY pretty cheap.

Thanks, I think it does look pretty sexy myself. It was about 250 for everything. 200 for the air bag module and 50 for the steering wheel. I have another GT steering wheel laying around I need to get rid of if any one is interested. I'll probably throw it up in the for sale forum. And no, it does not have the radio controls on the wheel, I wish it did. I think those are my keys hanging right below the cruise control. Another good feature, cruise control works too. Everything just plugs right in.

I've been painting my interiors since I was 16. I haven't had any problems. It's how you prep the panels. If you prep the panels incorrectly, of course your going to have to keep on re-touching up panels. And as far as cleaning, it's no different from the factory panels.

ok so, devil and pjz. you guys sanded, primed then painted correct?

I've been looking at this Krylon Fusion paint thats supposed to bond to plastic without sanding and priming. wondering if it's actually worth it.

cbwdevil
07-17-2007, 10:21 PM
Actually, I painted my panels without priming them. I wanted the look of the texture. Here is my process. I washed the panels ten times(armorall is a painters enemy and you do not want any traces of this stuff) with different wash rags so I had no contamination. I then scuffed the panels with a gray scuff pad and a pastic panel prep paste(both are found at local auto refinish stores, i.e. ppg or dupont jobber). After this step I used Bull Dog adhesion promoter. After that dries to a tacky finish I applied a dark gray sealer so the black would cover quicker. Then, of course, I painted them black and let them bake in the nice socal weather :D . Oh, berfore I forget, I removed the door or map pocket, what ever its called. I have a plastic welder so that made things easier when I reassembled. I dont think I missed any steps. Pretty easy

so does anyone have experience with the Krylon Fusion then?

worse case is Im going to have to sand with a really fine paper like a 400. prime, paint, and Im thinking clearcoat just to finish it off nicely.

wait you sanded off the Fusion, wetsanded and then reapplied the Fusion? or just used normal spary paint....Im a bit slow.

cbwdevil
07-17-2007, 11:29 PM
The reason he had to sand the fusion and then reapply it is because it bubbled.

Armageddon Sunset
07-18-2007, 10:20 PM
I understood that, but did he reapply the fusion, or just use regular spray paint? and considering he ended up having to sand, might of well just use the regular spray paint.
