Hi guys...

I have a question regarding tint windows. I just called my friend's buddy's bodyshop and the dude who works there told me that for a mitsu Galant will cost me $189 including works, tax, and everything. My friend said I could get a discount if I mention his name. The legal tint depth percentage in VA is 35% for the rear and 50% front.

Now I'd like request if any of you guys have pics of your car with windows tinted 35% and 50%. I'm planning to go 35% all around. How dark is 35%? 50%? Or even 20%?

Thanks all...
remy

I live up in woodbridge..35% is almost nothing. I got 20% and plan on taking to 10% as I add new equipment to the interior..Such as T.V.'s, headunit, audio system, and etc.

I had 35% on the front and 20% on the back of my 8G and it drove me nuts b/c it looked so bad. I have 20% on my 9G now. 35% to me is kind of a waste.

Heres 20% on my 9G

Hey thanks for the pics...nice G, too! and well here in VA is pretty strict and Fairfax Police...(they're just annoying! ). I once got pulled over for having blue lights on my windshield sprayer on hood. Didn't know they were illegal. It ended up me paying court fees

50% will pretty much just take away that green color that the glass has.

its impossible to tell how dark tint is in pictures. 35 can look like 5 at the right angle.

go to the shop, ask for a scrap piece of 35 and 50, go hold them up to the window of your car. done.

Naw they don't bother me that much.. Only when its a car load of people..Va state mostly..They do the whole 9 call the dogs and everything..Lol They make a scene cars go real slow..Lol I have been pulled over for tint 13 times in the pass 5 years..U can beat it buy making friends at a tint shop or take pics of another galant same color and say you removed the tint..Don't forget to pay the ticket..$$$$ it doubles the price..Trust me I kno..

im about to tint my windows too. mine where too dark and had to take them off since its now part of the inspection test. 35% looks nice. i dont really want to go any lower even though the legal limit is 25%

I only have 35% on mine (see sig). All the tint shops around here says 35% is the darkest they can go because they don't want to mess with the law.

I thought about installing the tint myself (20%), but this forum advised me to let a pro shop do it, otherwise I will have bubbles in my back window.

Good luck with 20%. I'm one of the unlucky few in Baltimore to be forced to remove their tint. Getting it redone though, girlfriend's father is a state trooper and will sign off on it for me, since my record is 100% clean :p .

i got 35% electric blue on mine, and i did it my self only paid $15 per roll (3 2 for the sides and 1 for the back) and $20 for the kit so i saved alot of money, it took about 2 hrs to do the 2 back windows and the smaller ones behind them to get use to doing it your self, the front 2 only took 20 min (i recomend doing it that way so u dont mess up your vision if u mess up the window) also havnt done the back window yet but im sure it wont take too long

If you look at the pic. In Texas, you have to have legal tint on the front driver and passenger windows. But you can have them as dark as you want in the back. I have a buddy that will install tint for 90.00 all around and it usually takes him 1 hour. And if you have problems, he will fix it no problem.

bullshit. 35% makes a huge difference in the way the car looks, and keeping the heat out in the summer.

sure its not as dark as 5% or two layers of 2.5%... thats complete overkill, and ridiculous. but you cant say that 35% isnt even worth it.

Polish has a point. 35% makes a difference.

It all goes down to what is allowed in your state and if you're willing to risk being pulled over for too dark tints and having to go through all the hassle of getting it fixed, showing up in court, getting @ss-raped in jail, etc., etc., ...ok I made up the last part, but you get the idea.

But hey, it's your car man. You can do whatever you want to do with it. We're just giving you good advice... by staying within the limits of what the law requires.

The law in VA is 50% front and 35% rear. Sucks huh. Anyway BIG THANKS for the inputs all...it's all up to my decision now. You all have been great help! :smt023

i still think it would save you alot of money to do it your self, if you are good with making things perfect and have the patience to get all of the air bubbles out, the only thing wrong with mine from doing it my self was a few creases happened when i pushed the bubbles the wrong way, either way u should want you and and keep it legal altho most people would say that legal or not doesnt matter in the long run they dont pay your ticket

Actually I was planning on going with 35% for the rear, and 25% for the front passenger/driver windows. I may go with 20% again depending on how serious her father is.

you also have to remember that the Virginia law is says it NET tint. meaning the total between the tint film and the glass. The factory glass is slightly tinted so if lets say you were to put 50% film on the front windows and someone were to test the window, you'd probably get like 40 something % this making your windows illegal.

my brother ran 20% tint on his car in maryland and spent alot of time driving in northern virginia and he's never been pulled over for that. but its a risk you have to take if u go that dark
