I just received the OEM spoiler that came off another Galant, the problem is I have no way to mount it... it did not come with any mounting hardware, and it looks like the spoiler was just ripped off the original car. I mean there are three mounting points as far as I can see on each side, however all of them have a white plastic stud embedded in them so I cant put a screw in there... also one of the mounting points is missing and there is just a whole... apart from the hole that the wire for the third break light comes out of.... so what I want to know is how can I mount that stock spoiler... do I go to a dealership? so I try to drill the holes myself... or is there an easier way of putting a spoiler on? help me out guys... I will provide pictures if needed....

What about going to a body shop, fuck the dealer.

I remember the guy that installed mine used templates, and placed them on top of my trunk, and drilled the holes in the trunk and installed the spoiler. Came out fine. I am not sure where you can get templates at. I would guess like a place where they sell spoilers, or you can go to some installer and maybe he can hook you up with some templates if your nice to him. :D If not, I am sure some of the guys here add to this.

So if the body shop guy uses the template it doesn't matter if my mounting points are screwed up? and how much did it cost to get it installed?

any good body shop should be able to mount a spoiler. template or not. its not that hard to make a template. you can make a template out of a piece of paper if you wanted to.

if that one mounting point you said that was screwed up was a mounting point where a bolt should go through then you're gonna have to think of an alternative way to mount the spoiler. either find a way to secure a nut there so you can run a bolt. or glue that one side down.

do you recommend any strong glue? or double sided tape?

3m automotive grade adhesive? but if you're really serious about glueing it down, i'd take it to a body shop. if you use the wrong adhesive or prep the surface incorrectly you can just say goodbye to your spoiler as it falls onto the ground while you're speeding down the freeway.

ohhh I figured out how to bolt down the side that has the bolt portion ripped off... so I will have the spoiler bolted on but I can do anything about the clips that have been damaged... and I am going to use an adhesive glue that keeps rain out its super strong stuff that they use for windows or something like that

My GTZ spoiler had some broken white round clips that I used double side molding tape from Pepboys to secure it, as the bolts only secure the back of the spoiler, the broken clips allowed the front of the spoiler to be a little loose. The tape works well to hold in place. However, I will remove the spoiler within a couple of days, if you'd like I can post pictures, and/or send you a templste of stock mounting holes both on top and underneath the trunk lid. That is if you hadnt drilled away already. Let me know

I hadn't drilled away yet I'm gathering information at the moment... somebody on galantforums also said I could make two mounting points in the front using shorter screws... but since the plastic on the spoiler is thin im not sure how that would work out... but if You can get the pictures posted on this thread I would greatly appreciate it

The spoiler is mounted with two screws which is accessed through the trunk rubber bumper stoppers.

The wiring is on the drivers side, threaded through trunk, down a plastic tube mounted on the hinge, and unplugs somewhere deep under the trunk mat, that I could not locate.

Here's some colseup of damage to my passenger side bolt mount broken off. I used double sided moulding tape found at PepBoys. I doubled up the tape(two layers) to get the right thickness. Very secure, as of two months, so far.

Mounting point for screw that broke off. ---- Resulting in hole in spoiler

The holes in trunk lid, for the clips are oval. I pried one off, damaging the rubber gasket.

Some closeup shots of hardware, screw for the spoiler is very short, and the broken gasket, and mounting holes for the white tabs pointy things, which I fail to figure out how they come out.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/5674/dsc02540xv5.th.jpg (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02540xv5.jpg) http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8449/dsc02539mb3.th.jpg (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02539mb3.jpg) http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9609/dsc02538jf0.th.jpg (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02538jf0.jpg)

By the way, the bolt size is ONLY CLOSE TO the photo below(using my metric set of spare screws)

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/8191/dsc02543tw1.th.jpg (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc02543tw1.jpg)

I think the bolts are US sized as the metric ones don't fit properly. Maybe the GTZ is a US only add on, so it may use the equivalent US sized bolts.(Unfortunately, I don't have any to check)

The double sided molding tape secures quite well, more than I expected. I see you have the same damage(a big hole) I have on my spoiler. My driver side is able to be screwed down. My passenger side is only held by the double sided tape as shown above.

The molding tape; may be your best bet, as opposed to drilling oval holes, and buying all the white tabs and black things/gaskets from the dealer.

I remounted my spoiler, and probably wont touch it again until I paint the car.

I will most likely repair my screw mounting point on the passenger side, and use more moulding tape.

I think the spoiler will be quite secure with the two short screws and moulding tape. As you can see, I didn't use much. Two layers give the perfect height to complement the gasket material on the underside of the spoiler.

Made by 3M, its grey, used for body moulding.

My spoiler is stock, so all parts came with the car.

But the dealer will be able to get anything you want. They will have exploded view pictures of every part you could possibly imagine.

As for the white tabs, I don't know. I was not able to remove them. They seemed to be bonded in pretty good.
