Ok, i'll start off by saying I work for a relatively large shop in So. California, and we use DuPont paint at our shop. Anyways, I talked to the sales man and he wants to do a demo on their new water born paint and he would like to do it on my vehicle. Now I could get a free paint job but I do not know what color to paint it. Any suggestions? I know its totally my choice but I like different opinions. Now the only thing they cannot do are some tri coats (pearl paint). Now I open the floor to you :smt023

I was thinking about doing a white pearl coat

I would go with a dark gunmetal grey. I helped a guy paint his eclipse with the gunmetal color they use on the Lexus IS and it looked GOOD.

I think that the pearl white would look good too. Theres a lot of nice pearl whites out there that arent tri-coats (like the mitsu dover white pearl).

Are you going to be spraying it or will the rep spray it? I remember the first time i sprayed waterborn i ran the shit out of it. The reduction is very touchy.

You still using a 2K clear?

If you want to look at color samples. Every 2007 Mercedes vehicle has factory water based paint, so you should be ableto choose any of those colors without a hitch. Make sure the shop understands how to apply and cure the paint, dont let any mistakes happen, even if it is free. They need to adjust the booth temperature and pre-bake the car to get the surface metal to a certain temperature before applying the base coats. A local shop I go to did a water based car for the first time and the paint came out like total crap, orange peel and fish eyes everywhere and like a week later it started chipping all over the place.

Our painter actually went to school last week to learn how to spray this stuff. He said he feels pretty comfortable spraying this stuff. As far as clear goes, I believe we use DuPonts 2400S. I work in the office, i dont get to go in the paint area very often so I am not too sure.

Stewi, I hope it doesn't turnout like that car. When I get back to work monday i'll look at our 07 Mercedes paint samples.

At the moment, i'm leaning towards Red.

If you like blue/silver Mercedes has a hott color from the M and R class called Alpine Rain, it looks silver in bright light and steel blue in low light

See, it even looks good faded!

It's up to you, but you don't see many 8Gs in a light blue metallic.

Oh SNAP.... he called your car purple.

Seriously though. Forget about the paint chips, go out to all the car dealerships and check out some colors out in the daylight. Thats what i did. I went with the the dark red that they put on the Ford trucks (Dark toredore red pearl ... paint code JL)
