i have a tapped oil pan, ready to install (thank you stewi :D )

The List:
14B turbo
2G Manifold (thinking about buying brandon's 2g mani as a "backup" mani)
1G o2 Housing
1g BOV
Resistor Box
2G DSM Injectors with adapter wires (currently using 440cc Subaru WRX injectors)
NGK Cold Plugs (i think 2 degrees)
Tranny cooler
Tearstone Billet adapter for fuel return
Fuel fittings (to connect to FPR, gonna use -6AN fittings for the fuel)
2G SMIC (gonna use FMIC, thank you underrated :D )
Manual Boost Controller
SAFC (might stick with ECUFlash, EvoScan, and ScanTech for tuning the STFT and LTFT)
Intercooler Piping (2.5 inch setup to match Megan 2.5 inch exhaust piping)
Oil lines (-4AN for feed, -10AN for return)
Oil Cooler (same as mtcavity's oil cooler)
couplers
gaskets (head to exhaust manifold, exhaust mani to turbo, turbo to o2 housing, and o2 housing to downpipe)
oil filter adapter
custom downpipe ( i have the piping, hopefully will be able to weld it together this summer)
Innovate Wideband O2 sensor and Tactrix Cable bundle
EGT gauge
Autometer Boost Gauge
Innovate Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge
Walbro 190 lph fuel pump
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Golden Eagle Vacuum Manifold
GM MAFTranslator

Nice setup Drew!

When/If you need welding, fabricating, or someone to throw stuff at, I'm here. Although this is not going to take a few hours to install!

When are you looking into installing this?

When are you looking into installing this?
i was thinking maybe mid or late November, or whenever i get all the parts for the install (whichever comes first). I originally was thinking of installing in early January (in between semesters, so i don't have to worry too much about "down time"), but i figure if i have all the parts early enough, why not install sooner
if you could help me with welding/ fabricating the DP, midpipe, IC, etc... that would be greatly appreciated!!!!:D cuz that's the one part i might get stuck on after getting all the parts.
i kinda figure this isn't gonna be a 6 hour project either  how long did it take for your installation?
i called your cell today, wanted to drop by to see if we could get the fuel pump in, but i guess you were busy at work or out someplace.

nice drew, now u just have to overcome the ses codes so you can do th tranny swap lol

  i know, damn Jersey and its inspections
but you're right, i gotta figure out which ECU and what code patterns will overcome the SES light problem. :?

after the turbo install, i'll be saving money for a (possible) tranny swap as well.

i've been searching eBay for intercooler piping and found only these few sites

trying to find kits that don't have many 90degree bands, don't wanna lose power and i'll be willing to do modifications to the bends to optimize air flow

any thoughts on these? :?

btw, intercooler should be at my house tomorrow afternoon, planning on getting some new axles in New York on Friday and (hopefully) installing the fuel pump on Sunday afternoon. (mtcavity, will you be available on Sunday; wanted to see if we could get the fuel pump installed, let me know, thanks) any other updates, i'll let you all know. thanks :D

The first one looks most "universal". I just got some mandrel bends off eBay. I used two 45* bends and 4 90* bends, along with 2 straight pipes.

Something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-TURBO-Intercooler-Intake-PIPING-KIT-GTR-3_W0QQitemZ200156349746QQihZ010QQcategoryZ43807QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Or this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVERSAL-FMIC-INTERCOOLER-PIPING-prelude-s2000-eclipse_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ020QQ itemZ300153836836QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

U-bends are cool. I just cut mine to length and used couplers. Although the best way to do it would be to weld everything so you only have two pipes, an upper and a lower ic pipe.

damn, Australia????? lol

i'm liking the second set. i gotta get in touch with a welder and see if he/she could do the piping for the intercooler, might look into the second set and weld that as the upper/ lower IC piping. i think mtcavity welded some of his piping for his turbo, might ask him about it later

Sunday after 3:00 PM, I'm free. I got most of my piping in from NAPA, mandrel bends of any size and bend radius.

I have been getting my ass handed to me, by my job. I am also building a new File Server and am having issues with my RAID array rebuilding itself on the new dual processor server. I loose my 62 Gigs of musical favorites and like 300 movies (out of the like 1500 I have in total).

That would mean 2-3 weeks of going through like 3000 DVDs and CDs and rebuilding the base again.

I dont know how much help I would be but im getting pretty good with a MIG welder, like if you were to fit the pipes, cut them to size and just mark them so that they can be lined up and welded, I could do it. Although If I were you, I would do that, and then bring it to a shop and pay a professional $250 to do it PERFECT. I will be honest with you, I dont even weld my own stuff yet, I can do it, but it doesnt always look great.

Damn. Thats nice. Well all i have is the 2g mani =\ and a side mount intercooler. But hey, it is a start. Ill get there. But im seriously considering keeping the auto. My friends talons turbo is so nice on the auto, it blows off, But you can still hear it all wound up, and the turbo just never looses power. Dont have that lag that my evo 8 had. only problem, is it would cost me about 4 grand to built the auto tranny i would wanna use. with limited slip diff and all the goodies. ( Custom built torque converter and Stainless steel gear mechanisims ) Anyone know about what it costs to rebuild a manual tranny ? My friend only does Auto's and wont touch a manual. But he can build one hell of a auto tranny,That is basicly locked in, so you can only shift it manualy. he told me thats the way to go for real racing

thank you!! do you know any places in the NY/NJ area that might be able to do custom downpipes (or maybe i'd have to go to a welding shop to get it done)? i think that's the one component that i have yet to get.

a start's a start. just make sure you get all the parts/tools well in advance to the actual install. and save up for good parts too, so you don't have to pay for repairs later on. If you ever need help with transmissions, you can ask GOOSEY2099, he's more familiar with transmissions than i am.

UPDATE: just picked up my FMIC from home, though mom needed the digi so i couldn't take a pic of it :( Vacuum manifold should be comin within a few days. Plus, the second link that qnz showed me for the IC piping; i'm probably gonna go with that piping, then cut it to appropriate sizes and lengths

the tbolt clamps and couplers that come with the piping tho are pretty cheap quality tho. I would think about getting new ones anyway if you get the kit. when you squeeze the couplers, they squish as easy as squeezing a sponge. try turbonetics ones. squeezing them is like squeezing a handball. they are on the pricey side tho.

lol, from the money i saved up in the summer, it kinda surprises me that i'm getting all the parts so soon. hopefully i can made the rain date for Mitsubishi day, then maybe we can race (before the turbo's in)

question: about my turbo: can i change the compressor and turbine wheels to higher specifications, or do i just get another turbo if the current wheels need replacing? (i'll be using the current ones, but i'm just curious when and if they do need to be repaired in the future....) :smt017

UPDATE(10/06/07): i'm probably gonna buy underrated's piping(already setup), after i ship my old intake manifold to a friend in philly(slickeonez99). gonna install the injectors and fuel pump tomorrow with mtcavity. I disagree Brian. I have the stock evo fuel rail + evo fpr + wrx injectors and all i needed was longer vacuum line, and about 1" of washers. Surprisingly, there was no other fabrication needed.

Yeah I guess you can do it like that, but I dont trust spacers and washers and stuff when it comes to keeping a fuel rail in place, but whatever. I was going on my experience with my AMS EVO rail, but thats also a little taller in the center section than a stock EVO rail.

With that being said, I have a stock EVO8 rail with a -8 an fitting tig welded on the return, if anyone needs it PM me.

What doesnt make any sense is in that thread, the guy said that Napalm figured out that aftermarket EVO rails fit the 4G64, I cant see how that is true since I bought my AMS rail from Napalm because he said he couldnt get it to fit on his stock 4G64 manifold. Anyhow, this is all good info.

k, when you mean "the rail" are you referring to the rail i currently have.. or was that referring to the EVO rail?

EDIT: quote for GSKNIGHT over in club3g:
"... If you use the WRX injectors with the stock fuel rail, I can't say how many spacers you will need, if any. But with the Evo Rail, then you need 2 thin washers on top of the stock black plastic spacers. Also, because the Evo rail's mounting tabs are much thinner than stock, you cannot re-use the stock mounting bolts (they run out of threads before you can get everything tightened up. You need to use bolts that are slightly shorter than the stock mounting bolts and have threads all the way down, not just on the end."

regardless, whatever rail u use with the dsm injectors will need spacers. The stock rail will need some thin spacers and with the evo rail i needed 3 larger spacers.. Ull see when u install them - the stock rail will work with stock or dsm bolts but the evo u need shorter much shorter than stocks -- find some that are threaded all the way it will be easier.. WRX is another story so i wont be able to say. I also did not have the intake mani bracket he had to cut so i dont know about that either..

i think the only things i need is the IC piping (w/maft), gaskets, a custom downpipe, fuel pressure regulator (still pondering on whether to stay stock, or aeromotive, or EVO fuel rail & fpr), oil lines, vacuum lines (i guess to route the BOV, FPR, wastegate, etc.. to the vacuum manifold).
Gaskets: block ->manifold
manifold -> turbo
turbo -> o2 housing
o2 housing -> downpipe
downpipe -> midpipe

not sure if i still need an oil cooler, i think i do though i have to figure out how to route the tapped oil pan to the oil cooler.

that's all i can think of for now.

don't know what this is, but i heard that i might need a "dump tube" as well (i don't know what this is :?

UPDATE: btw, the adapters just came in today....

depending on my schedule, i might get the injectors installed next week, we'll see. but yeah, those are the last few parts that i can think for now. the parts from the first page are already bought (at least the ones that came with the kit) if i'm forgetting anything, please do remind me, lol. thanks all
more to come soon....

you dont need a tump tube since your using an internal wastegate with the stock o2 housing

the oil cooler is seperate from the oil pan

you would use the oil filter housing for inlet and outlet ports to hook the oil cooler to

the fitting on the oil pan is just to drain the turbo the oil goes from the feed line through the turbo out the drain line into the pan

i opted to get the transmission cooler over the oil cooler because if you use good enough oil and change it regularly it wont break down or overheat but the trans mission on the other hand you want as much protection for it as possible the cooler inside the radiator just isn't going to cut it long term but thats just how i thought about things

k, not really an update til i show the pics, but i just purchased underrated's IC piping on friday (gonna pst those pics when it comes in the mail). In the meantime, i was browsing around the turbo section for more info..the usual. I saw the link that seth98est put up for someone looking for a turbo list for their setup.

http://4g64.150m.com/turbo3.html

So i read it for a while and noticed that you can install the S-AFC as one of the "pre-mods" for the turbo, like how i have the fuel pump in now....before the actual turbo's on. (sorry, TOTAL noob moment   ). anyways...i think that might be another install i do, right before the injectors go in, just gotta figure out how to install the S-AFC with the injectors, we shall see...

SHouldnt you use the oil pan tap for the turbo oil return? Get a sandwhich adaptor for the oil filter for the cooler. And for the oil feed, not sure, think in 7gs, theres a bolt in the front left section of the head, just like the 1g/2g 4g63ts.

Just let me know. Typically your oil return line should be at least double the size of the feed line. Your oil cooler setup has nothing to do with the return line. That adaptor you have sends oil to the cooler and back into the filter housing to get back to the motor.

run1206
11-10-2007, 11:10 PM
i'm assuming to go with the return at -8AN and the feed at -4AN. Do i need another for the oil filter, cuz i thought this one was the one i needed, (unless i need an adapter just for the tap itself...)

I know what you mean Aaron.

I am using -10 as well and with my manifold its a weird angle into the pan. I am using a 90 degree -10 hose end on the turbo side and a 30 degree -10 hose end on the pan side. I broke one of the 30 degree fittings, I didnt use enough assembly lube and the barb snapped off, what a waste for $38. Nothing like spending $110 to make a return line.

Run, I would use either a -10 return line or 1/2" high temp rubber line and just tap a barb fitting into the pan like Mtcavity.

If your feeding the turbo from the sandwhich plate adaptor, I would use a -3AN feed not a -4AN. If you search around the DSM forums, anyone feeding from the filter housing or sandwhich plate who runs a full -4 line has problems in the upper RPM range with too much oil pressure and it blows past the seal in the turbo.

I am personally running a -4AN feed line, but where it enters the turbo, I have a -3AN reducer to restrict flow so I dont blow oil thru the seals. This may end up not being an issue for you since you still have balance shafts in your motor where as I dont and most built DSMs dont. Without the balance shafts im seeing alot of oil pressure. My Pressure sending unit is in the head and I have 12-15psi at idle once its warmed up. On my EVO motor I was seeing like 5psi at idle if I was lucky.

run1206

Run if you want I can put a male -10 AN bulkhead fitting right on the pan. A bulkhead is kinda like what Mtcavity has. You drill the hole, slide the fitting thru and then tighten the nut on the back. It has an O-ring between the fitting and pan and between the nut and the pan so it seals up good. I think the fitting is like $30. Dont buy any hose end fittings until you mock up the parts to see what type of angle the return is at, you might have to use a 45 or you may be able to do a straight line. I couldnt do any of that, I had to get a 35 degree or something wierd.

the spot mtcavity tapped is a pretty good spot. anymore to the left and you run the risk of the drain line getting in contact with the down pipe. you can figure out the angle you need by attaching the turbo and the drain hose on, then bring the hose down to where youre gonna tap for the oil pan fitting and figure out what angle you can get the drain hose in.

dont forget, if you tap the hole too high, you'll have problems attaching the fitting onto the nipple. mine ended up being a straight fitting coming down from the turbo to a 45 degree fitting on the oil pan. the line was no longer than a foot.

(it's the only wideband gauge i've found under $200 (usually others are a kit with the wideband sensor included)

that's all i can think of for now...
hopefully everything comes in the latest right after the new year so i can start getting measurements on fittings and what needs to be done in terms of installation.

Run, if your looking for a wideband gauge, this is what you need.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=INN%2D3793&N=700+4294822093+115&autoview=sku

Its Innovate's gauge, the same one im running. You were probably only able to find the XD16 gauge which is like $225 and displays all types of data that you will never use. Its a good gauge and the wire up was very easy when using it with the LC1.

i just ordered this gauge from Innovative last night
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16279&cat=0&page=1
but i contacted their sales dept. and left a messege to see if i can get the 3793 instead of the 3803. gotta wait til monday for a reply...

edit: the person selling the WRX injectors say they are rated @ 420cc.
i'm wondering if i should still get these injectors and modify them to 740cc
(from the $100 fuel solution link -> http://www.club3g.com/forum/rs-gs/78046-100-fuel-system-solution-thesis.html [post#21]) or if i should leave them at 420cc, either way it's High Impedence so i wouldn't need the resistor pack.

420's are more than enough for what your doing

This is just my opinion, so take it as you wish, I would not even think about buying that gauge. That is almost like a Lean/Stoich/Rich AFR gauge, its not precise. When tuning a boosted car, you need to know exactly what the AFR is, thats why all the reputable companies that sell kits 99% of the gauge have digital readouts. Not only that, but its the same price as the digital gauge. While your busy trying to figure out if your AFR is 11.2 or 11.8 by trying to count them lines, you could be damaging your motor. I would definely call them asap and get the digital one.

exactly what i thought. i figure the digital one is more accurate sicne you have the actual number and don't have to measure what lines wil be where i want it to be. i called them and left a message, plus i emailed them on the site and asked if i have to exchange after it gets to my house or if i can exchange the 3803 with the 3793 (the digital one).

FYI thats not threadlocker on the wideband sensor, its anti-sieze so the sensor wont get stuck in the bung and the amount on there is just fine. o2 sensors have a built in washer to keep them tight, you dont wanna use loc-tite.

What did you mean by "no name on the cd"? Were you expecting it to say something specific? The CD is just contains install instructions, user manual and datalogging software.

i'm currently looking at pre-made water/oil line kit on Ebay and various websites to see what the fittings i need look like. (gonna go to jegs.com and summitracing.com to get the actual "end" fittings)

as far as the DP, i might buy from here...

(sorry for the newb question, but does anyone know how many 45, 90 degree bends i need for a custom DP, i assume a 90 and two 45s, though i might be wrong :smt102 )

more to come soon

edit:

The first one looks most "universal". I just got some mandrel bends off eBay. I used two 45* bends and 4 90* bends, along with 2 straight pipes.

also purchased the flex pipe
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/Downpipe%20Piping/00006.jpg

still have to get the tapped oil pan and gaskets, but i'm pretty close to done in terms of getting the main parts for the turbo. Now it's only the small things (other than the oil pan) and the end fittings. Other than that, i'm considering using the steering wheel gauge pods for my Boost and AFR gauges, while i might put my EGT gauge where the cigarette lighter is, if not then i'll try to put all three in the extra compartment in the radio bezel.

probably the next few items i'll purchase online is the flanges for the DP and the end fittings for the oil lines. i'm so excited how i'm almost done with purchasing the parts. the real obstacle is installing it together, hopefully i can get this all done before we have our turbo/sc race meets.

Drew a few things.....

Are you using heat wrap then using the paint to paint the heat wrap? The reason I ask is because if you read the fine print, the paint is good for 2000 degrees when used with heat wrap, without the wrap its only good for 1300 degrees like most other high temp paint. There is one other brand, I think maybe MtCavity posted it but im not certain, that has a 2000 degree paint that doesnt need the wrap. I used that same paint you posted without the wrap, and it all came off in a matter of hours. Your EGT's in any type of boost will be in the 1400-1600 range.

Aaron, I didnt weld the fitting to Drew's pan, I used a bulk head fitting as per his request, but you can do it either way. I personally like welding it because you rule out the chance of having a leak, but the bulkhead fitting seals up fine as long as you use the correct sealing rings.

yes, i am using heat wrap, Roman gave me a set a few months ago. I'll be using both, so i assume the protection will be up to that mark. After the install, i'll double check on the EGt to make sure i'm within reasonable temp limits for the coating and wrap.

ok so I got the pics....

the pan was drilled, mounting flange was checked/straightened so it was perfectly flat, the entire pan was glass bead blasted, hot tanked and painted flat black. The fitting is a -10AN aluminum fitting that was turned down on lathe to fit perfectly. I have to say this pan came out extremely good, I would honestly never put another pan on a motor without having it blasted, hot tanked and painted.

k, update.
stuck at a certain point. we were only able to get the WRX injectors in but there's a fuel leak between the fitting and the rail. so i wanna get a specific fitting for the rail. i'm wondering whether to get

90-94 -6AN fitting

or 95-99 -6AN fitting

Stewi
03-30-2008, 06:21 PM
are you talking about AN lines?

The idea is to slide the hose into the coupler all the way, then use some type of oil or lubricant, a very little bit of it, on the inside of the rubber hose, then push the barb in, hold the hose itself tight, dont hold the coupler, hold the hose. use some lubricant on the threads as well, then tighten it all the way down. The key to tightening them is to not stop. If you stop for too long and try to start up again, its a PITA and sometimes you can even damage the fitting.

UPDATE: i've driven over 100 miles and still no Check Engine Light from the innjector flash :D :D

i just put in the MAF translator a few hours ago; sitll no CEL (i hope running it now still leaves it zeroed out - unless i have to reconfigure that when installing the turbo), i'll post up some pics either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. hopefully during wednesday i'll be able to mount the intercooler, not too sure though.

the tearstone adapter is on the way as well

k, i'm thinking about mounting my intercooler today. checked the service manual, though i haven't checked my bumper yet. i assume that their isn't pre-drilled holes where the IC would mount

anyone who has mounted one, have you had any troubles with mounting?

sorry for double post

no predrilled holes through but there is 2 holes on the top of the crash bar that u can drill through it to he bottom but what I did is I marked the holes of the intercooler and drilled the first 3 layers with a big bit and them the last where the screw is gonna be holding the intercooler was a smaller hole

There will actually be indentions in the framing of the radiator support/front frame that match the 2 1/2 intercooler piping, go a bit lower than that and it should go in nice. Along with some trimming of the inner bumper piece. I welded on the supports for the IC.

Check out my CarDomain pictures to see what it looked like before and after.

you lost me on the "good tune" part; i only put in the numbers that Brandon had for the WRX injectors and got the CEL out :smt102

i see that you welded the two supports to the radiator support, so i'll wait til this weekend to work on that, maybe i'll just take off the bumper and mark where the spot for the IC would be for now...

im not too familiar with 02/03 8g's but if they arent already open, you may want to open up the left foglamp bezel vents. this way you can get nice airflow to the oil cooler. Was there a specific reason that you relocated the oil filter?

It was part of the oil cooler kit, and the housing of the re-locator has 2 - 1/8in NPT filtered oil line outlets. That is what I feed the turbo with.

The oil line is routed in a fashon that it is cooled because I removed the inner plastic on the vents to make them functional. The other side is the same but obviously is for the oil cooler radiator.

Drew has the same exact kit.

Stewi
04-22-2008, 07:02 AM
cool. yeah I know getting airflow to the cooler is sometimes a PITA. I was messing around with my cooler last night for a solid 2 hours trying to find a good place for it now that I have A/C back in the car. MT did you install the stuff with Drew? Make sure you compensate for the added oil capacity of the cooler and all those lines. I know my setup has much shorter hoses and it holds nearly 1 1/2 quarts.

mtcavity1
04-22-2008, 12:16 PM
Correct again! 5 quarts is what it takes now (good call), and I did not work on Drew's yet but intend on covering all the issues that I experianced with mine during the installation. Mostly due to rushing and not securing the oil lines off the Oil send and reciever, with one bounce off the ground or road debris rupturing the line. Needing absolute support, but flex for the engine torque (front and back).

Drew loaned me Maximum Boost and have learned more than I could have EVER thought there was to turbo-charging!

lol, glad to see that booked helped you, i usually look over chapter 2 alot, shows the "engineering" concepts to turbocharging and the "PLAN" to what should be modified.

Stewi: i bought a 5 qt of oil and a new filter, so i should be good with getting more oil for the extra length

hopefully i don't run into the same problems that mtcavity had with the oil lines (alot of potholes and bumps to knock off my lines in no time :( )

Stewi

I was concerned with my lines too. I went to home depot and got zipties that have a ring on the end that can be secured with a bolt or screw. I drilled a two tiny holes into the lower passenger side frame rail and tied the lines up with them, it holds up well and looks pretty clean.

mtcavity1
04-22-2008, 08:53 PM
I intend on installing a support bracket that attaches to the bottom AC compressor mount bolt. From there it keeps the profile of the lines at least on the same profile as the oil pan.

I just replenished my supply of steel stock, so will make you a "more attractive" support.

The gunk is from the line blowing off. The lines are BF Goodridge oil lines wrapped in hockey tape.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/Turbo%20Build%20Pics/100018.jpg

but it's squeezing the line too much, which may have caused our first leak.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/Turbo%20Build%20Pics/100020.jpg
so we rerouted the line to point upwards and around the IM to the AFPR, i have to take pics of that later tonight cuz i forgot to take the final pic of the fuel system

did a slight change to the FPR as well, we put a fitting that fit the -4AN SS line and didn't cause leaks

possibly next week i'll go back and work on the fuel line (change from -4 to -6 AN fuel line) as well as actually mounting the intercooler and oil cooler. After finals week (may 13th) i'll be able to work on the car every day.

no problem, just remind me the day you ship them so someone at my house can sign for the package.

i decided not to use the SAFC (for now) cuz the CEL was for a low voltage on the air output signal and the SAFC may have been causing that problem. the connection for the air flow signal is shorted on the harness and the CEL is gone :D

ok, so i decided to get off my lazy ass and get this project moving again...
installed the wideband yesterday afternoon (would have been sooner but rained for a few hours and stopped soldering). didn't take any pics but the wideband gauge and sensor are installed. the problems i'm having now is i'm pulling 2 codes (heater malfunction code, which i though i fixed with the resistors :( and the other is the oxygen sensor too high voltage code ) . car ran ok this morning on my way to work, no bogging and no jolting after disconnecting the positive terminal  :D

while datalogging, i see the front sensor only reading 0.060 volts (at most) and it's in open loop mode (but no bogging, thank God  ) but the odd thing is the gauge. it starts at 7.4 and blinks a few times (i'm assuming a reset or system check) and then slowly creeps up to about 8.9. i'm thinking the signal wire is loose cuz when the wire moves around a lil, the gauge goes back to 7.4 and blinks again, so i'm gonna resolder that signal line again. also the 25mm stereo to serial OUT connection in the package doesn't match my serial OUT connection on my laptop (their connection has only 9 holes and mine has i think 15 [same as my flat screen's serial cable] so i'm gonna go to best buy to see if they have a conversion harness so i can program the sensor.

as far as the codes, i did two 10 ohm 10 watt resistors in parallel (which should become the 5 ohms needed for the resistane of the front sensor heater wire [pin 3] ) maybe i made the connection wrong, but i think it's still trying to read from the OEM harness (which isn't attached to any sensor). after work today i'll try to take some pics and continue with the install.

GOOSEY: i STILL can't get the second end of the -6AN fitting to go into the SS line :( i'll keep trying during the week. as far as turbo fitment, that will be this upcoming friday and saturday. i'll take pics and send them to you (or post them here) for further review.

laxin: PLEASE let me know when i can get a chance to drop by and pick up the intercooler and crash pipe

thanks, only thing i have as an update is that i got an EVO fuel rail from GOOSEY2099, gonna see if i can revise my fuel lines to work with that. Other than that, i fixed up my wideband so i only have one CEL (system too lean), but that i can fix with the GM MAFT (which i'm still contemplating whether to use the gen 1 or gen 2 maft)....

i've been hammered with mid-terms, career fair, and programming assignments that i haven't been able to do anything to the car yet. i hope to get the fuel rail in before mid november (most likely gonna do it in two weeks, that and to get the SS -6AN line in). I still have yet to get the gaskets for head -> manifold, manifold -> turbo, turbo->o2 housing, and o2 housing-> downpipe.

I just got the EVO ECU on saturday afternoon from a member of evom.net (big thanks to him on the fast shipping, and to GOOSEY2099 for letting me know about the sale

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/car%20photos/0530091427.jpg according to GOOSEY2099...
"Now you need a boost solenoid, new style jdm foglight clip (not sure why on that one), fuel pressure solenoid, dsm injector clip (not sure about that one either since i'm using wrx injectors) "

pretty soon i'll get the wiring for the ecu as well as the final gaskets for the hardware components. gotta talk to GOOSEY2099 and johnathansgalant about whether to do only the EVO ECU or to do the dual ECU swap.

more details to follow soon

and my assumption is this will eliminate the codes that goes to those wires, nice :thumb:
hopefully i have no CEL codes after the install, will go to inspection prior to the turbo install. (at least that way, i have another two years to finish the remaining CEL codes)

so i figure go back to evom.net and find someone selling these, unless you have any extra lying around the garage somewhere ;)

still looking for the right fuel pressure solenoids to find as well, will post up links when i find them.

i still have to get the remaining gaskets for the hardware itself (exhaust manifold -> turbo, turbo -> o2 housing, o2 housing -> downpipe), but those i will purchase tomorrow or during the weekend.

nice drew, glad to see ya picked it up. i got a pretty decent deal, 1000 for the trans and they guy said i can take whatever i wanted that had to do with the swap for no cost. got the new clutch/pressure plate/throwout bearing and a new mast cyl. so all im gonna need is the trans, cables, slave cyl, flywheel, shifter and pedals. so lets hope maybe you and i both can be swapped by the end of aug...thatll be friggin awesome.

Make sure you have the little clip that holds the shifter to the cable/white plastic/. I was told that w/o it its worthless and you have to buy the whole set of cables

just finished talking to Stewi on the phone a few seconds ago. He said the same thing; i need a U shaped clip to connect to the cable. I gotta call Denver about a "clutch reservoir" as well. Gotta get in touch with Izzy again and ask for the brake pedal too. only those three things and i'm set

UPDATE: clutch is fixed, but i know some of you won't approve of how we did it. Big thanks to everyone who called/visited my house to help with the fix. The fix was (for now) using an extension from a socket wrench which fits right into the section where the OEM rod goes into the slave cylinder, i'll post a pic tomorrow of how it is now, but it DOES work (temporarily)

I bought and received the extension rod from Extreme PSI today and will install the rod tomorrow afternoon when my friend comes home from work. (you need 2 people to get the slave cylinder back onto the tranny while using an extended rod.....sounds so wrong  )

ok, sorry i haven't posted in this section for a while.
I got the car back from the shop, the internals for the first tranny were all messed up; had to get a second transmission from SC installed.
After $1100 and waiting til my birthday in Dec, i finally got my car back and she shifts great! I can get to all gears including reverse. Currently I have the 5 CEL codes as expected (4 for the shift solenoids and the torque converter codes).
My speed sensor doesn't work too, so i'm using my GPS for mph lol. Trying to look for another speed sensor and reverse solenoids at local junkyards (if anybody might have one or know someone that has one, please let me know. thanks).
Now i'm wondering about the boomslang harness and EVO ECU. Since i'm manual now, do i really need to connect the original ECU to the harness, or go with what I was gonna do and use both ECUs? Before I install the EVO ECU, i'm definitely gonna go over each and every connection before powering up the ECUs (probably will label all wires with the diagram papers i have from underrated and johnathansgalant). I have to fix my 90degree intake hose too, gonna get a new silicone coupler for that tomorrow.

Update on the EVO ECU and Boomslang Harness:
Minor problem with the harness and the ECU, i don't think many of the connections that are needed are made. Here's some of the pics i took yesterday of it connected to the ECU.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/ECU%20and%20Boomslang%20Harness/0117000355.jpg

I started labeling the pins and wires for the ecu and harness, so that i make sure i have all connections made. will try to finalize it sometime this week.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/ECU%20and%20Boomslang%20Harness/0117000355a.jpg

Here is what i was talking about. EVO ECU has 2 rows. That 2nd connector to the ecu must have more than only 3 connections, i'll double check this tomorrow morning with the ECU sheets johnathansgalant made.

worked on the speed sensor today, car lost all power (i forgot to secure the negative part of the battery terminal *oops* :TGC: )
wired it up and still doesn't work. maybe i'm wiring to pin 1&2 instead of 3&4 on C-17 :?

can't tell if from the diagrams i should determine 3 & 4 from looking INTO the harness or looking from BEHIND the harness.

any help is appreciated, thanks :)

Any updates Drew?

wow i haven't been on here in a year

i'm in the process of doing the wires on the Boomslang harness and fitting it into the car sometime this month or next month (inspection is in August, that's my deadline). I'm waiting on word from SPD_FRK if his company makes the 4cyl conversion harness, if they do, i'll use that instead of the Boomslang for the Evo ecu.

Turbo wise, started cleaning out dirt and grime from the 14B. Might contact Chris to see about rebuilding the turbo, sometime this month.

Working again so at least i have an income to build up the project on.

That's where I'm at currently; still need gaskets, someone to weld the DP (with AC hopefully) and fitment of the ecu into the car.

edit: thanks to jonathansgalant I will start working on getting the speedo to work again, wiring for that is next week.

not really, most of last year's work was getting a new clutch and the transmission, not to mention getting a new job (the drive to manhattan is ridiculous :( )

K, forgot the cost of the rebuild kit was that low. Depending on your schedule, i can bring the turbo up to CT and work on it for a bit. (Bar sounds good too  )

The only thing I've been working on lately was the speedometer and the ecu, CEL is freaking me out. I'm close to the point of probably mocking up the stock harness just to get the evo ecu in and pass inspections :/
