I think it's a good temporary fix until you get your hands on the actual one. Then again, if you notice it works the same or if there is a big difference with the one from Home Depot, just keep it in.

My year doesn't have it, so one less thing to change lol. I do need to change the filter in the air intake thinking about it.

i've been doing that for years. i usually just hot glue the filter to the tray just to be safe.

you could just delete the filter and put back the tray. mitsu deleted the filter just because people neglect changing it. won't hurt the car if you don't put the filter back in.

the factory cabin filter is so expensive cuz its not some plain jane cabin filter. its actually a hepa filter.

but yea, i never been to a dealership parts department and tried to sell me parts with labor included.

I have to do the same thing for mines, it usually smells like old cat's when it's time to change, last time I just cleaned it really good and let it dry then stuck it back in there. lol

1999 to late 2000 models carried cabin air filters. 2001, 2002, and 2003 does not. There is a way to convert it fit a cabin air filter but I'll make tutorial for it when I have time...

does it really need one..all you do is go to the dealer buy one for 99-00 and cut the spot it goes to open and slide in...when you see it you know what to cut its behind the glove box..

when you go to change it, if you have a cabin filter it will let you change it.

Some 2001's still had the cabin filter. it was deleted midway through the model year.
