My G is reaching 65K, I heard the break line for using synethic oil is 70K
I have been using pennz bulk oil for like the first 50K, then i switched to GTX. Well GTX is pretty good, but i want something better for my G.

I heard Mobile 1 is right below AMSOIL. which is a very good oil.
So if i switch now, will I get problems for my I4? leaks? and is it true you can go longer without oil change with sythetic?

Try Castrol Semi Synthetic.

Why wouldn't it be able to handle it?

If you suspect your engine is leaking (any) oil, do not switch to synthetic. Compared to conventional oil, synthetic can seep easier through small fine cracks than regular oil and may cause small cam seal leaks. That's okay if you don't mind smelling oil afterwards. (like me... :? )

On a normal wear and tear engine, it's fine :D

Not too sure about using a full synthetic at the 65K mark, but you should be ok since alot of cars are coming from the factory with synthetic. But just to let you know, I've been using Castrol full syn since 120K (I'm at 340K now.. ) and I've tried the Mobil 1 15K oil once and it broke down under 4K miles so I went back to Castrol. Like mentioned above, it's worth the money.

Well I don''t want to lie to my family. I actually only have +339K miles on my '99 V6 ES, but it should hit 340K by the end of the weekend. :D I put about 3K on each month back and forth to work. As any of the guys in the GA chapter, they have all seen it. But I swear by Castrol Syntec, it's the life's blood of my baby. I hope to retire her soon and actually make her a trailer queen when she's no the DD anymore. I have an garage full of accessories waiting to be installed, just don't want a careless driver or a deer to total her out. You know GEICO ain't going to give me jack for her with this many miles.

The engine and tranny are the originals, but I have replaced other things including power steering pump, alternator (due to an engine fire) and 2 starters (OEM went out about a year ago, then I switched to an aftermarket from Advanced. I forgot to put the shielding back on the positive and caused an engine fire. Got another OEM from the factory put on and that gave out a little over a year later. Amazingly I put back on the Advanced starter and it still worked even though it caused the 1st engine fire!! Now that's built tough!!) But the main thing I can recommend is to do your regular maintainence, like stated above. Most important is keep that oil changed and those belts in good condition. I do alot of highway driving which is less stressful on a car than stop-n-go city driving. (Hell I still have my original struts and springs on!!) I changed my oil once a month and think that one reason it's lasted this long. Also I've had the T-belt changed 2 times, the water pump changed once, and the tranny power flushed once at the dealer, but I'm long over due for another.

so only two timing belt changes in 340,000 miles? The manual says 60,000 per belt which would mean you should have had almost 6 belt changes.. Well thats good for me. Im going to keep the maintenance tip top and hope I can get to your mileage, im shocked.

Yeah, the manual was written to keep the dealer rolling in the dough, at least in my opinion. I would suggest to at least have the T-belt done between 80K-100K, especially if you drive hard, do alot of stop-n-go driving, or in an area with temperature extremes. I wasn't going to get my T-belt done until I hit 100K originally, because I had seen an article that was talking about things that fell under the "Cali spec" that required T-belts to last to at least 100K. (Don't remember where that article was posted...it's been a long time.) So I had my 1st belt done at around 130K. I guess I was lucky, since I'ver heard of folks having there belt go around 80K. If you don't have it done like the manual recommends, I would at least suggest having an independent shop, that you trust, inspect the belt when it's around the time to have it done. Also when you have that belt done, take it back to the dealer or to a shop that knows how to work on Mitsus. Especially if you have a V6!! I learned the hardway. It won't be too bad for you guys now, especially since this engine has been out awhile, but when I got mine in '99 it was a strange beast for shops to work on. These days the dealer is always running specials on T-belt service.
