Hmmm, I don't see a gasket in there, so maybe when you put one on it might seal up the gap

the gasket is on it its on the bottom rim of the valve cover, thats what i thought but if i move the cover that direction none of the bolts will lines up

The most drastic thing would be to put some, I mean a small amount some, of liquid gasket on that corner then, UNLESS they sell some kind of a seal for that part of the head

my valve cover has almost the same gap as that all the way around.... the valve cover gasket makes it that way.... if the whole valve cover is sitting flush on top of the head.. im pretty sure youve over torqued them.. the bolts are just a little more than hand tight.......

its not about torqued down its say to big of a gap even if they were bolted down i could take off the gasket and bolted it down and itll be closer but itll stil lnot even touch loo kat the pic the gasket wont touch that eve if it was torqued or not becasue it comes out, the gasket goes in the under rim of the valve cover not the outer rim lol

Ok so looking at that pic you posted, I dont think their should be a problem. As long as the valve cover gasket seals against that surface. On my EVO head I have a gap too, granted its not that large, but its still a gap. I did some research and the sealant locations for liquid gasket on the valve cover are the same as the EVO, on both sides of the last cam cap on the T belt side and on the semi-circular block off plate at the end of the intake cam. If you need it, here is a link to the Kia Factory Service manual online, free. Dont be scurred about the language install thing, just say no, the manual is in english.

Hey do me a favor.

Post a pic of the head without the valve cover on, one pic overhead, one from each end. I wanna see something.

It doesnt look to me like the valve cover is wrong, it looks like the head is missing parts.

Looking at the end of the exhaust camshaft, that end seal is supposed to be sandwhiched between the head itself and the cam retainer cap. It looks like you dont have the cam retaining caps installed. That might be the reason you have caps all over.

Check these pics. Im talking about the pieces that go over the cam journals and are held in by two 12mm bolts. Look at the 2nd pic in the lower right corner, thats the cap for the exhaust cam where the cam sensor bolts up, notice it has a small lip on the edge that sticks out.

I have to admit when you posted the pic with the cam gear off, I said to myself. "WTF! is this guy out of his damn mind? if course there will be a gap, he is missing all the caps?"

Its OK tho, to this day I have done 4 five speed swaps not to mention taking my own engine and tranny out and apart numerous time, yet I still always manage to put the shifter cables on backwards. I always get into the car and try to put it in reverse and say "F*ck I did it again!" then I gotta spend 20 mins taking off my intercooler pipe, battery and tray, etc. etc.
