I just took out my Halo Fogs and put in my stock fog lights that house the 899 size bulb. I want to get a set of HID foglights (899). I was browsing on ebay and I didnt know that they have 899 size style fog lights. Is it true lol? I think i might pick them up Here is the link i was looking at:

Aren't they 893?

893 and 899 are the same. It's just that the base is different, 1 has a right angle and the other is straight. Nycking23 has hid's in his stock fogs. I don't remember what size they are though

On the sylvania's website its say 899, i have a 2002 8G. BUT on the 1999 it says is 893. I believe that they are all interchangeable tho...

But don't you think that the stock plastic fogs will get too hot and start to bubble?

I thought HID runs cooler than halogens?
Yeah I'm thinking about a 6000K kit as well. Any input would be much appreciated

they do. they run at 35 watts. But I think the stock fog light bulbs are less than 25 watts.

U really think it would melt the plastic housing???

I dunno. I don't think hids get as hot as regular bulbs do. I for one bubbled out the lenses on the stock foglights when I had my stock front bumper, but I believe the bulbs were 55 watts or maybe more.

are you running a harness for the fogs or just connecting things with the plug n play kit?

where'd you tuck the big ass ballasts n all that
nycking23

ballast is ziptied to the ballast for the headlights and they are mounted behind the headlights. the wires are long enough to reach down to the fogs

I like the sound of that, brand and price? Did you get them off ebay or somewhere else? 3000K is definitely the route to go for the fogs.

Im assuming you got the 880/881 bulb size? I actually have that same exact brand for my headlights...Im wondering if i should go with 6000K or with 8000K cuz I have 8000K in my heads...

Yeah I have the same dilemna, I know 3000K is the proper way to go because yellow penetrates water droplets yada yada...
I have 6000k headlights, I think I might match the fogs with the same color. Its really up to you and how you want it to 'look'.

What about the legality aspect of running foglights that yellow? It legal to run 3500 or less? I live in ny.

a plug n play HID system is illegal in itself.
so if you are really worried about things, then I would say don't get HIDs

yeah prety much all the plug and play kits are illegal, but
every lexus out there has yellow fogs.
so why shouldn't your car have them as well?

Not what I asked, but thanks anyway.

What color temperature do they run at in the lexus fogs? Is it down around 3000-3500k?
From what I can see (and if my monitor is displaying correctly) 3000K is pretty damn yellow. My primary concern is that I don't end up running a color temp that sticks out like a sore thumb and get pulled over as a result.
A few guys i know run aftermarket HID lights and the consensus seems to be that if you go too blue (over 8300 kelvin or so) you will likely get hassled, Whereas color temps more similar to OE HID lights on most cars won't attract much attention. Is it similar in the opposite (more yellow/red) end of the spectrum?
My question is: Will running in a range significantly more yellow than stock fog lights attract unwanted police attention in the state of new york? Assume for a moment that these lights aren't even HID (although they likely will be). Would the color alone be grounds for an officer to pull me over?

Like I said, it all depends on your luck. Fitting an HID into a halogen housing not meant for HIDs can get you in trouble with the law. I never got hassled and I run 6000k.
No one can say to you with 100% certainty of what can or cannot happen with you and law enforcement.
nycking23 has yellow HID fogs as seen in his sig and I don't think he gets into too much trouble either.
