Well the other day my car started misfiring so i went to check it out and found oil in the number 1 spark plug. Im guessing i have to change the spark plug seal? But how do i get all the oil out of the chamber? Thanks

Coil up a rag and soak it out after you remove the plug. While you're there, replace all the seals and the gasket too. They should come as a set.

If its not a ton of oil it should just burn off. Like Chip said, change all them seals and gaskets, I think all together the parts run like $40 and you can do it in 20 minutes.

It cost me 20 bucks for Valve cover gasket and all 4 seals. Make sure and torque all bolts back to 36 inch pounds and start in the middle.

I know this is a dead thread but I also just found this in mine- in the first cylinder to the far right when facing the engine. Anyone have any tips on this and where to buy the gaskets?

You can either go to Mitsubishi or any local auto parts stores to buy the spark tube gaskets you need.

The gasket kit comes with the valve cover gasket right? Since you are removing the valve cover to replace the spark tube gaskets..you might as well replace the valve cover gasket.

4-G is right, you might as well replace valve cover gasket as well, if you have the v6 also replace those in 'back' while ur there and save ur self future probs. should only take an extra hr or so.

valve cover gasket comes with the spark plug seals. its 20-25 bucks for the whole thing if youre an i4. its a cakewalk to do. just dont tighten you valve cover too much so you dont warp it.

I keep reading that it is a good idea to replace the valve cover gasket if you are thinking about replacing the spark plug seals. Does this mean that for replacing just the spark plug seals I would have to open and remove the valve cover anyway?

Since it would be removed it would make sense to go ahead with the valve cover gasket as well.

Guys?

you have to remove the cover to get to the plug seals. thats why they come as a set

Thanks.

As a side note, albeit and important one, I want to say that this is the best forum I have even been!!

I have done a lot of things so far, saved a lot of money too. And many members here are great help, and very willing to put some time and reply to others questions.

I will be doing this fix soon, I will try to get pictures, and hopefully I can put together a DIY for this issue.

On last question, is there a proper valve cover bolt torque sequence for the I4 ? I found one for the 3.0L DOHC engine, but can't find anything on the 2.4L.
