Well, after a year long research here on TGC, Galant Forums, club3G and members, I decided to start on my 5 spd swap. I usually buy 2 or 3 cars a month, I repair and resell so in between all that and I will be doing my swap along with complete JDM front conversion, EGR rear visor, door sills and deleting AC and PS. I'm slowly getting there, one day at a time. This is not something that I'm looking to finish in a week or two, no rush at all.

This is where I will post my progress with the 5spd swap, front bumper and whatever else coming up. So check back from time to time. Everything performed here in this thread was performed by myself with years of experience in the automotive industry. If you try any of these procedures you do at your own risk! TGC or myself will not be held responsible.

AUTOMATIC SHIFTER ASEMBLY IS REMOVED, CABLE THAT RUNS TO IGNITION, YOU KNOW THE ONE
THAT DOESN'T LET YOU PULL YOUR KEYS OUT WHEN IN NEUTRAL. WELL THATS WHAT IM REMOVING.
YOU CAN ALSO REMOVE THIS EVEN IF YOU STAY AUTOMATIC, JUST ONE CABLE, HOOKS UP TO YOUR
KEY IGNITION. THATS THE CABLE YOU SEE IN THIS PHOTO.

Next week I will trim the ends of my crash bar to fit my new bumper, it will be really cold tomorrow so I'm done until it warms up again.

looks great, i personally dont like the 02-03 front bumper so its good your getting away from that for a show street car :) but best of luck with everything and as you stated b4 your doing it your self so it will be awesome when its done, cant wait

RAZ_76

I wont have a gap because Trigg is already looking for heads and grill for me as we speak and besides I'm in no hurry to finish this car, so it could take me 5 or 6 months to finish it, I doesn't matter. I will fit the bumper, snap a photo or two an then I'm prepping it and painting it, then I 'll stash it somewhere until I finish the 5spd swap and by then I should have my heads and grill too.

I'll probably wait to see what those fogs have before I start cutting anything. So how do those fogs work, they both come on at the same time?? do they have to be wired a certain way? diffrent switch..or what dude?? How do you have yours?

IceDouTGaLanT
02-14-2008, 11:52 PM
The inner ones since you will hook up to ur factory switch like i mentioned before, you can use your OEM switch..

The Outer fogs are like the new maxima they flash so u can see whats their before you turn, so u can tap them into ur parking lights. I hooked mine up so thier always on when i turn the parking on, but dont flash..

Oh I know that, I was talking about the ones that you can buy with body kits, like Cali has. I just don't know which ones I want yet. I'll deal with that later. Right now I want to finish the 5 spd swap and then I want to start buying parts for my evo swap next year. I want to have most of the pats by next tax time. Then at tax time I can get the head and send it out to have it machined.

Took me 1 hour, just depends. I still have my dash in the oven, curing it.

good progress dude.

did you get the shifter cables through the firewall yet? or did you just prop the console for pics?

if you did get the cables through the firewall, how hard was it?

RAZ_76
02-27-2008, 10:31 PM
I did get them thru the firewall. That is the reason I took it apart in the first place. Goosey cut and drilled out the left bolt on the firewall bracket but I wanted to use both bolts. It's a pain in the ass but it eliminates any issues with those links.

how hard was it to get to the bracket?

RAZ_76
02-27-2008, 10:58 PM
It was a PITA, it was easy to get the right bolt with a really long extension but no way in hell to get the left one. I removed as you saw the dash, pulled that box thords me and up, enough to do the same thing with the long extension.

4g63lover
02-27-2008, 11:09 PM
damn, did you try using two extensions? lol.

so I have to take the dash apart?? should be easy enough right?

RAZ_76
02-27-2008, 11:18 PM
Well I'm used to it because I've had to pull the entire dash on my daily couple of times but it can be a project for someone that has never done it. It can be done, yes! Just remember where everything you remove goes. You also loose the AC if you do it my way, because you have to disconnect it from the firewall to be able to pull the box thords you and up, I didn't care because I removed everything related to AC anyway. You also have to loosen or pull the heater core hoses brackets back to allow it to move freely. Trust me, I didn't take pictures of everything that's involved but it's a lot harder then the pictures show.

RAZ_76
02-27-2008, 11:20 PM
damn, did you try using two extensions? lol.

It's not that the extension was not long enough, that box seats really low and you cant get a socket on it at any angle. Very small space under there dude! You can barely fit a wrench on that bolt but thats about it, cant turn it.

Well last night I removed more useless crap I don't need.
So now I have removed entire AC system and Power Steering System and the 2 lb plate on the glove compartment and window washer bottle , all those parts together weight like 60 pounds. I didn't remove them for weight reduction but 60 lbs is 60 lbs I don't have to deal with anymore and it also cleaned up under the hood pretty good.
I also got my grill today, so I'm going to start prepping and maybe paint it next weekend. Headlights are coming next week. I will probably relocate the radiator overfill bottle tonight. All week in the 70s, I'm happy. I forgot to mention that I have Mashimoto evo Radiator with 2 12V fans coming soon.

I want to fit those first before I finish the grill. Once I get everything fitted properly, I will paint the bumper and grill so check back .

Just Picked This 01 For $800

It's a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES. Only thing it needs is radiator support, new hood, headlights, grill and maybe new bumper. Runs and drives. Paid 800 bucks for it.

Well I got it home yesterday. It is North star white. The damage is exactly what I though it would be, Hood, Radiator, Radiator support, Headlights, grill and maybe bumper but I think I can fix that hole. I pulled that radiator support back as far as I could to bring some of the parts back to normal, like hoses and such. It also has a premium sound package I guess. I did not know they came that way for an ES.

I've been tearing that 01 up. I decided to rebuild my daily since I have this Galant with so many good parts, I might as well use them. So far I've been taking the interior out and cleaning it and I'm done with that except the seats. I'm taking the front control arms, rear control arms and doing the disc swap since they are out, exhaust, trunk lid, rear reinforcement bar and bumper. Next week I'm pulling the engine and transmission out and after that I will start installing it all on my daily.

It's actually easier to just take out the brake line and the 4 bolts on the back, I just did it this way because I'm taking that entire rear assembly.

This is what I do for a living, those are investments, not my toys. The door sill is on the wrong side of the car because I was only taking a picture and the other side was too close to the wall and could not open it all the way, I just picked one, didn't think it mattered until now...

This is what I've been doing for past couple of days. Finishing up that 02 Polaris ATV, had bent frame. Getting the rest of the parts for the 07 Kawasaki ZX-10R so I can finish that. Gutting that 01 for the rest of the interior parts I need. Swapped trunks, bought Ingallas camber kit front and rear and as soon as that gets here, I will also do the rear disc swap, I've been Dynamatting my rear deck and front doors, cleaning parts that will go in my 99. Got new Falken 225/45/17 tires, new spoiler, jdm bumper, kyb agx suspension and small things. I sold my other infiniti and was able to get some things...:p

That carpet cleaner is professional. My Buddy works for a carpet cleaning company and got me some. But do this since you cant get that. Place the carpet on the ground and soak it really good. Get a bottle of stain remover and soak the carpet with it, now get a semi raspy brush and scrub, and scrub, rinse till there's no more foam coming out. Now go get some laundry detergent and repeat process. Not only it will clean it but it will smell nice and clean. Get some bungee cords and get the carpet on a fence or whatever you have, the idea is to have it like on a wall so when you use the hose with some kind of pressure the water runs off. You know what I'm talking about?? I would get up early and have the carpet ready to go, this way you catch the warm sun in the afternoon to dry it, if it's hot enough, it will dry in couple of hours. The back side will take longer because it's thick . So plan to let it dry for an entire day.
