I was driving today just crusing then my car just stalled while i was driving. I have a 2000 mitsubishi galant 2.4(4g64). I had problems earlier today when i cleaned my MAF with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner it wouldn't start for like 10 min. then it just turned on. I changed the spark plugs last week. i changed the coils after the stall thinking it would fix the problem. It still didn't work! I can hear the fuel pump but i'm not sure if it's really working!

Please help!
Thank You!

Check your intake manifold at the throttle body for cracks

Thanks, I'll check!!!

Do you really think that would stop it from cranking over?

Check the honeycomb piece in the MAF if its damaged you will need to replace the MAF.

The honey comb piece in the mass air flow is not damaged, i also cleaned that part with the MAF cleaner!

Thanks for the reply!

My fault, Check Engine Light! yeah it does have a CEL when the key is in the on position. but i can't get the comp. read because I don't have a diagnosic machine and i can't get the car to move!

Should i try reseting the ecu by disconnecting the batterie?

Can the MAF get messed up by the CRC MAF Cleaning Spray???

if you have a CEL light, go to your local auto store and find out the code so you can do some diagnostics on what the specific problem is. autozone might be able to do it for free.

Disconnect your battery for about 20minutes. During that 20mins, make sure your sensor is plugged in firmly, make sure all the clamps for the intake hosing are tightened properly too. Re-connect your battery, start your car, and then let it idle for about 10-15 minutes.

He can't get the car started so getting to the Auto Parts store might be a problem...

Yes. If the diode got damaged by the spray or if the MAF was still wet when you hooked it all back up electronic damage could have happened. Why did you spray the MAF to start with?

hmm.. might have to disconnect and reconnect the battery like 6G72 said, unless if you can borrow a scanner from someone and get the code at home...

If disconnecting your battery for a little while doesn't work, then check your fuses.

Is there gas in it.

I think he has a MAF problem. Get the code checked and let us know then we can diagnose the problem instead of having us all guess what it could be.

I dissconnected the Batterie for a half and hour, then reconnected it. I checked the gap in the plugs. i tryed turning on the car while spraying either(it has half a tank of gas) and rechecked all connections and still CRANKS BUT NO START! I then removed the Cam gear cover and notice that half of my timing belt was missing(It didn't break, just riped down the middle). I do not no where the rest of the belt is! I think it might of skiped a tooth!
I need to get a new belt and get the timing done!

The intake manifold also looks good!

Wow, you're going to have a lot more to worry about if you jumped timing.

Don't even worry about reading any codes if your timing belt is torn in half. Whatever caused that surely caused you to jump timing. Prepare for a whole set of bent intake valves.

Like TJ said, you better watch out for bent valves. Yikes.

Yeah if the car was running when the belt tore in half(lol Im sure it was) be prepared to replace the valves and some of the valve guides. This is the time to replace the valve seals, and waterpump too since you will have it apart.

I hope i didn't bend any valves. The car was driving then out of no where it just stalled(thats propably when it jumped a tooth). the timing bent is riped but still holding on.

Beat me to the punch Seth. I was gonna suggest the same items and also the tensioner pullies as long as the engine is apart.

Good luck RacerX. I hope it doesn't wind up costing a bundle. And make sure the shop you take it to is reputable and knows what they're doing.

I took it to my Grandfathers shop today and they showed me the timing belt all shredded, they said they had to change the Crankshaft or camshaft sensor(one of those), they checked the compression and 2 of the cylinders had no compression(I might have some bent valves). Tomorrow they are gonna pop off the head. My car should be ready this Saturday!
