don't disconnect it. poor reception if going to happen when you have one of those unless you actually spend a nice penny on one.

if you really wanted to disconnect your antenna, you would do so via behind your HU.

do you have an after market HU or stock?

well i used to get a decent quality with kensington digitalfm one, but it broke and they sent me kensington liquidfm. even though it is supposed to be an upgraded model the quality is not even close to what i had before.
i have an aftermarket jvc head

does it have either a cord that can be connected to your ipod or RCA input(s)?

how much do those kensington ones cost?

i used to use the roadtrip one which cost around $90, but now my ipod is directly hooked into my new deck

i got the first one for $50 on buy.com. It worked pretty good with barely any interference.
JVC does make ipod adapters for heads with cd changer control with mine doesnt have :/

does your HU have RCA input?

also, if you disconnect your antenna, you're not gonig to get as good of a reception anyways

the RCA input is used by an amp

that would be an incorrect statement, your amp uses RCA OUTPUT

ok. well there wouldn't be a good way to boost your reception of your ipod then unless you buy a better transmitter or a new deck that is ipod capabile

the reason i wanted to know that is because i read online that it might help since there will be less channel interference

how old is your HU?

disconnecting the antenna might reduce interference, but could also create its own problems. i wouldn't recommend it

reception in general.

if it's 2 years old, i would almost say start looking for new ones. especially on ebay. i got a discontinued eclipse head unit that use to cost $800 + $50 for the ipod module for $300 including the module. and it works wonders. but that is just my recommendation. especially you should look at one that has 3 preouts and a preout voltage of a minimum of 4-5v
