Found this on ebay and $85 shipped ($70 + $15s/h). Good deal?

I'm doing major tune-ups (water pump, t-belts, driver belts, spark plugs + wireset + distributor cap, transmission oil, air filter, and brake pads).

I found the water pump and timing belts parts. Just need to get the spark plugs, wireset, and distributor cap. Let me know. I will be ordering these parts so I can start working on them during spring break.

A close by repair shop (family owned) quoted me $350 + tax labor only for timing belts and water pump jobs. Where the mitsu stealership quoted me $1500 + tax!!!

I know....Mitsubishi is an ass when it comes to prices for maintenance. They gave me a quote of $400 for the timing belt and $260 for a tune-up. All I had to do is pay $16 for NGK spark plugs, but my spark plug wires were good. I am going to get the timing belt from Ebay for $60, but it comes with a water pump. I am going to do the installation by myself.

im not really fond of off branded spark plug wires. i used to have a set and they fell apart.

NGK makes spark plug wires for the 8G v6. they cost around 50 bucks. the place i got mine shut down so you'll just have to search for them. the fit just like factory wires.

spark plugs, i usually stay local with them. order from partsamerica.com and then just pickup at the local advanced auto parts.

distributor cap and rotor. the auto parts store has their brands but after much thinking, if you go to the dealership its like a few bucks more but you know its a good product. i too had a bad experience with an non factory distributor cap. but yea, if i were to get that, i'd order it from http://mitsupartsdirect.com/ or if you ever end up in the Rockville area, you can just go to the mitsu dealer there. same place.

I found both spark plugs and wireset at Advance Auto Parts for about $100. However, I just called mitsupartsdirect and they quoted me $72.00 ($44 and $28) for distributor cap and rotor. What is the difference between their distributor cap and the ones I found at AAP here:

That link above doesn't quite work (will work for you, but not anyone else). I've tried off brand rotors and cap from auto parts stores (Beck-Arnley, Duralast, etc) and they don't seem any different than OEM except for maybe color of the plastic. I'd just go OEM, especially since they are less expensive.

http://www.sparkplugs.com carries both NGK ($46.52) and Denso ($53.63) plug wire sets.

Change the cap and rotor. I've been using the Borg Warner stuff, and it works just as well as factory. Hell they make really nice turbochargers, as well as the DSG transmissions for the new GT-R and the VW's and Audi's.

Beck-Arnley is OEM BTW.

No, no, no. Please do not use aftermarket ignition components :(

Cap and rotor should be replaced about every 50-60k miles with OEM MITSUBISHI COMPONENTS. Trust this from a person who wasted over $2000 on replacement pistons because of shoddy ignition components. OEM is hardly more expensive any way! Just go to the dealer.

I've dealt with Borg-Warner stuff for ignition and it's just CRAP. Compare the rotor to stock and you'll see what I'm talking about. Same with their wires - absolute crap. Just buy OEM.

You can get the OEM stuff from the dealer.

Warm, I havent had any problems with the BWD cap and rotor other than they wear out fucking fast. I'm talking 10k miles. If you dont push them past that they are fine.

OEM spark plugs can be ordered from any parts store... some of them may even have them in stock. Wires, like Tim said, you can get from the dealer.

And I know these problems happened to me under over 10 PSI of boost, but it doesn't change the fact that all aftermarket ignition components for our 6G72 are poorly designed in comparison to stock.

Meh, I may get a OEM cap and rotor, but when I pulled them off I needed to have changed it 20k miles ago so I wasnt going to put anything but a new one back on. I will see how it lasts. I log all of the time. Hey, maybe its causing my cyl #3 miss.

So is it necessary to replace the distributor cap and rotor when I'm replacing the spark plugs and wireset?

I strongly advise it.

They've got the ignition wire set: mechanical catalog --> electrical --> ignition system --> cable set

You can get the plugs from ngk.com

okay last question i promise warm, lol
double plat, IX irid, or irid?
and are there any cheaper alternatives for wires? that aren't bad?

WarmAndSCSI

I'd just get regular NGK platinums or iridiums. The IX might be cheaper, but they degrade faster because of the finer electrode. The NGK wires (ME97) are a good OEM alternative.
