View Full Version : Suggested black rims?

I have terrible wheel covers as of now because one day I woke up and my front drivers side was missing. So I've been scouting new black rims (black 02 galant) and was wondering if you guys know of any that in particuluar look good on our 8g's? I will have pics when I get home of what I have on there now. Any black rims you guys know look nasty on our cars?

Black wheels like this look really, really good IMO: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=wheelCloseUp&wheelMake=BBS&wheelModel=RS-GT&wheelFinish=Diamond+Black+w%2FMach+Lip

Ones like these, not so much: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=wheelCloseUp&wheelMake=Avarus&wheelModel=AV2&wheelFinish=Black+w%2FPolished+Stainless+Lip

I think the Galant makes a really classy tuner car or even a VIP car if you've got enough cash to dump into the visual mods. Some people want to turn them into donks, however. *shrugs*

Ultimately, it's up to YOU. What's important is finding a wheel with the correct width and offset to fit well.

I have a bit of searching to do first but just basically wanted to know if you guys knew of any in particular that looked sharp.

Oh man, anything would be an improvement but just remember the Galant is a Japanese car (that happens to be made in the US, but still) ;)

You can make a car look VIP without making it look silly. Execution is key.

Not sure if I can afford to wrap some new rims in some new (larger) tires as well.

RAZ_76

Maybe you should just replace your tires and keep your wheels until you can afford another set or wheels and tires. You might be able to find some used wheels and tires for that.

I understand that. Its good to check out some styles I like though, my dad owns a shop and gets a gigantic discount from his distributor, so later today I'll see what kind of things he can grab for me.

Good thinking man... I'll tell you one thing. Never rush ANY mod on your car. Doing this has screwed me more than once, and out of a LOT more than what you're looking to spend on wheels.

hellk4t
03-12-2008, 02:32 PM
Yeah I wouldn't doubt it. Rims and body pieces are a little ways off for me, a few months at the least. Right now I'm taking care of simple mods - still have to clear my corners and install my xenons, also my LEDs in the gauge cluster. Silverstars seem to be the best bet for replacement bulbs, correct?

WarmAndSCSI

SilverStar bulbs are a little better... they do burn out quickly compared to stock, though.

Really...I had a question on that as well - are the actual silverstar bulbs amber? Do they light up at all while my running lights are on? It would kinda defeat the purpose of clearing corners...Im figuring they dont since everyone does it anyways, but was curious.

You're clearly talking about the corner bulbs... and no, they're like a silverish blue and light up bright amber.

If you want nice Black wheels that are cheaper check here:

www.ZinikWheels.com - I'd suggest the Zinik Z21 Sofin Black.

www.Mkwalloy.com - I'd suggest the MKW M50 Black.

All should be about $150-250 per wheel.

How about these rims, Enkei RPM2 in hyperblack. they come in 18x7.5 with +45 offset i think. you might get away with a set for 1k without tires or 1k with a shop that does a package deal. Clean look in my opinion. Or if you want to go cheaper, Rota makes wheels for cheap. those are 17's, thats why 170. And no, 18's wont be 180

The rims are Motegi Touge. 18x7.5 with a lip.
I got my set for about 750 wheels alone. Searched the net for a long time, then drove 2 hours to pick them up in person to make sure they are fine. It took me 2 months to get them, because they were on backorder, but i somehow managed to get the last set in the whole U.S. that American Racing even had. They had to ship it from California, and that took another couple of days. Last set! I was so happy lol. There are not many people who have them as they are not advertised heavily.
As for the tires I have Nankang ns-2, and those ran about 300-400. Plus mounting, alignments, all that good stuff. Total ran about 1200-1300 But was well worth it. I was rocking hubcaps before and was proud of them, ask anyone, but i found what i wanted and got it. So just look at different styles and figure out what suits YOU and YOUR CAR best.
Took me a good while to find what I wanted, theres not that many 'think' 5-spoke rims. And thin don't look as good imo. These Touge's also come in gunmetal. But I think they fit My car perfectly. I will try to find the website where i got them from.
