Well I finally feel like posting some pics up of my car. Its basically stock but whatever. Today I was finally able to take out the lower dash (thanks 99galant) and I got some paintin done and I think I'll be up all night finishing :D

Well here you go:

World's biggest wheel gap

Here's what my interior is like right now:

two completely different screws?? I think they ran out of the same kind when they were puttin in the glove box latch:

well I'm pretty much done:
http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/8514/img0077up3.jpg

I know the clear coat looks really cloudy and looks like it sucks, but it's really not that bad in person
I still have quite a ways to go on my learning curve of clearcoating though :(

http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/8045/img0095eg5.jpg
The little cubby thing is back in now too

just in case anyone was curious, i used Krylon Fusion gloss black first (the store didn't carry the flat black), then some coats of normal Krylon "ultra-flat" black, then regular-gloss Krylon acrylic clear coat, and no I didn't wet sand the clear coat
I might end up removing it all again someday and respraying and reclearing. Next time I'll be able to remove everything faster too. This only took like a day for me to do I just didn't have time to post pics

now time to find something else work on 8-)

Not really... pop out your radio and there's two clips at the bottom of the vent.

hmm i may try that tomorrow thanks

the vents you just pry out, looks like it is foggy. if you use regular acrylic clear on the fusion paint it will either make it crack or not adhere to it hence that glazed look i suggest you redo it and either use no clear at all or make sure to buy the fusion clear

beam514
03-27-2008, 05:57 PM
really?

what if theres a layer of normal Krylon paint on top of the fusion?
Also the glovebox is the thing that looks most glazed cause I tried to use satin clear on it and i messed up.. although i used that on the door armrests and those came out perfect. But with the glove box, radio bezel, and shifter bezel I didn't use Fusion cause though I actually sanded and prepped

You need to go to walmart. Get some rubbing compound in a green tub made by turtle wax and rub the shit out of all of what you just painted. The overspray isnt to appealing BUT good job!

beam514

actually in that pic the wheel gap is kind of exaggerated cause I parked on a slope with that fender facing uphill and its slanting diagonally across the car. I dunno about lowering anytime soon as I don't feel like droppin $500 right now (possibly saving for a 5 speed swap ;-))

beam514
07-10-2009, 10:46 PM
what is all this shit in my thread? haha

and yes the 3.0 was out as of 3:00-ish today. Only took 3 of us, two of them no automotive experience (my dad and my friend.. thats a girl haha)

Removal really wasn't that bad except the front exhaust manifold got stuck to the pipe below and we didn't realize at first so the engine was angling weird, BUT.. when we finally corrected that we didn't even need a load stabilizer to tilt the engine. With the transmission, the whole assembly tilts at the perfect angle for removal.

here's some pics:

How many miles on the 6G74?

it has 69,000 miles on it. Are you using the stock 6G72 injectors or did you tune for the 275's?

stvn_mj: I don't know my future plans for it yet really. For now I'm just hoping it starts and runs okay haha. I would eventually like to be able to tune for the 275 injectors, but that means swapping ECU's as my 1999 is not flash able. Problem is if I switch to a 2001 ECU or the like, then I'll get a code after doing the 5 speed swap (which is for sure happening in the future). Can't have codes here in cali :(

looks great man! Gotta love the "rite of passage" smiling from inside the engine bay shot.
I think i have a few of those lol.

The '64 has got such a cooler sound over the 62. You can actually hear the stroke of the motor when you hit it WOT with a CAI.
(i made a custom CAI for my dad's old diamante)
they are so torque'y

beam514
07-17-2009, 03:20 PM
okay guys I need some help. I know there's some people here that have done the swap

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/th_7-16-09010-1.jpg (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/7-16-09010-1.jpg)
As you can see circled in yellow and green, there are two of those gold colored things (NO idea what these are called...). The green one is located on top of the TPS, the yellow is above where the throttle cable actually meets the TB. My 6g72 TB only has one of the gold things, so I'm not sure what's going on here. As far as I can tell, the one circled in green connects to the black box circled in red. I have no idea where the yellow one connects too though..

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/th_7-16-09012-1.jpg (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/7-16-09012-1.jpg)
Also, on the back side of the manifold is this little one too. Not sure where that goes. Possibly connects to the gold thing circled in yellow?

i wish i could tell ya but other than that issue it looks great!

M-Rod
07-17-2009, 05:10 PM
What you have circled in red and yellow should connect to each other via vacuum hose. That is for your cruise control. The Green... not sure. My Diamante throttle body does not have that, but it looks as though you don't have an EGR Valve on the back of your plenum near the throttle body. What year is this engine again?

wright06jhs
07-17-2009, 08:45 PM
it has 69,000 miles on it. Are you using the stock 6G72 injectors or did you tune for the 275's?

My 6G74 is running right now with the stock 6G72 injectors and stock 2000 ECU, with no CEL's or anything. It runs great and gets the same gas mileage as the 6G72 did but with more power :D . Without a tune you will still recognize the power difference between the motors, and you will be amazed. I do know tho you will see a much better power gain if you swap the 275's in and get a tune done.

I know for sure when i swap a 74 in my Stratus i'm not going to do it until i find someone to tune my car and can get both done at the same time. Im having such a hard time finding someone to tune my car in this area :(

I'm hoping for at least 200WHP because there's a guy on Club3g with a Stratus that is putting down 196WHP with the 6G72 with MR headers, Diamante MANI/TB, exhaust, Colder plugs/wires, CAI and a few other small things. So i'm sure with a good tune plus these few mods you can hit atleast the 200whp mark.

beam514
07-17-2009, 11:31 PM
Matt this is a 2002, and there is an EGR valve on the back of the plenum, just can't see it in the picture. I really don't know what that little tube on the back is for though.. or the green one if you say the yellow connects to the red. On the 6g72 the red connected to a similar thing in the location of the green one (above the TPS) soo I'm not sure what to think of this just yet

jimmy_o2
07-18-2009, 12:47 AM
have u asked tj or bj

beam514
07-18-2009, 02:32 PM
I posted it on MP earlier this morning. BJ's TB only had one vacuum actuator IIRC.

anyway plugging everything back in and I ran in to one problem:
Back in SPD_FRK's thread I posted that both the IAC and TPS plugs on the Diamante TB were the same as those on the 6G72.. well I was wrong haha I guess the IAC was similar in shape, however it's different. Here are some pics:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/th_7-18-09002.jpg (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/7-18-09002.jpg) http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/th_7-18-09003.jpg (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/7-18-09003.jpg)

Lucky for me, the engine came with almost the complete harness hacked off (I guess they didn't want to unplug everything.. Also came with the alternator, AC, and power steering brackets. Guess I struck it rich haha). This is the Diamante plug connection.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/th_7-18-09007.jpg (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/beam514/Galant%20Photos/7-18-09007.jpg)
6G72 plug connection connected to the harness

So I'm going to need to cut off the 6G72 plug connector and solder on the one from the Diamante. Just need to figure out the pins

I believe the 74 had slight differences over years and they went through a minor change (as far as the plenum and throttle body are concerned) in 2000 or so. Mine doesn't have the fitting you have circled in blue.

You should make a How To thread about doing this swap.. List of parts, where to get them, how much.. etc. It should be made a sticky if you do because there are plenty of people out there who have tons of questions about this swap..

There really isn't much more involved than swapping in another 6g72. Depending on the year of the donor motor there is very little modification.

beam514
07-19-2009, 07:23 PM
Jeffylou, Matt is totally correct. the 74 is essentially the same. I was surprised at how similar it is actually. Luckily, mine came with the alternator and powersteering brackets (You need those from the 74)

For anyone wanting to do the swap that doesn't get the powersteering bracket, I may be selling mine as I deleted the PS

There is however a tutorial on club3g that I referenced quite a bit. Read the whole thing and all the little details. It really helps. Also helps to have a Haynes Manual (essentially it walks you through the steps of removing an engine)
Right here: http://www.club3g.com/forum/performance/79859-how-install-6g74-engine.html

If you want me to start up a 3.5L swap thread though, I will do so

Hell, I just turned 18 in may, and the extent of my automotive experience was lowering my car back in December 2008. Prior to that, not much car knowledge. I did a hell of a lot of reading and re-reading though

Way Fast Galant
07-19-2009, 07:53 PM
for your first swap, i think you did a hell of a great job. makes me want an 8g to do that swap, lol.

beam514
07-19-2009, 08:03 PM
thanks man :)

and so my plan was to have the car running by saturday.. which was yesterday. Ran into some problems though. One of them was the IAC plug which i previously stated. Also, I'm using the stock intake tubing up until the MAF for now. Had to hack off the little water catch box near the bend at the TB as it wouldn't fit b/c it was hitting the brake fluid reservoir. Also I was planning on putting the battery on the shelf where the old air filter box used to be, but the damn filter I bought is HUGE and the stock intake piping angles it right to that shelf.. and there is not enough room for the battery tray in the old position. Need to maybe get a smaller battery or something (getting a new battery anyway) and slim down the stock tray

M-Rod
07-19-2009, 08:17 PM
Have you considered relocating the battery to the trunk? It's planned for my swap. I think it would be a great way to make room and clean up the engine bay at the same time. Just a possible suggestion. But you are doing great so far, keep it up. I can't wait to see this thing run!

beam514
07-19-2009, 08:18 PM
Yea I was thinking about that. I need to look up how to do a battery relocation though. I would have to drill into the firewall for the new wires correct? (that kind of scares me)... but I guess I have come this far haha

M-Rod
07-19-2009, 08:38 PM
Either that, or else you could run wires through your inner fender with your harness that goes to the dash.

Found this picture that Fred posted long ago, but you will see which wires I'm talking about. You can still access these with only the inner fender removed.

wright06jhs
07-20-2009, 12:38 AM
A battery re-location will look great. I'm also thinking of doing in in my stratus because of the up coming 74 swap. The picture M-rod posted is the way i'm going to be routing my wires, very good place to run them.

beam514
07-20-2009, 02:23 AM
I guess I could get this?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1200A/
Once I run it through the fender and in through the dash, I guess I have to run it under the carpet and then somehow in to the trunk? Some guys appear to be running it on the side of the frame rails.. which doesn't seem like the brightest idea to me for some reason

I would get that one, and yes you can pull the door sills up and pull the carpet back and run the wire along the floor under the carpet. Just make sure you make sure its not going to be anywhere in harms way like near seat bolt down points, under the trunk release, running under any sharp edges. It will be just like running amp wiring for a sub woofer but more important lol :D

07-24-2009, 12:24 AM
Okay so I had my brother go buy a Braille battery at a performance shop near his house. I Guess I'll have to fab up some kind of custom battery tray b/c the stock one doesn't fit as it hits the 6G74's distributor. Also, there's no room on the little driverside shelf. So I will be getting that tonight, and finishing up my ghetto-intake, and then it should be good to go

Also, does NO ONE have any thoughts on the extra vacuum actuator? and the extra fitting on the back of the plenum?

beam514
07-25-2009, 05:35 PM
okay the car is running!!! using a Braille battery on the modified OEM battery tray. Car sounds REALLY good. Kinda hard to turn with no power steering, but I'll get used to it

Videos will be up tonight!

Looks like you have done a good job with the install man. I noticed you had a couple issues with things, but hopefully have them straightened out.

I was also going to relocate the battery to the trunk but instead mounted the stock battery tray on the driver's side shelf within the engine compartment. You would need to bolt it down to the shelf (and in fact can make use of the existing holes there). Thjere is plenty of clearance between the terminals and the hood so there weren't any issues with that location;

With the vacuum port on the rear portion of the intake manifold I would assume that has to be for part of the EGR system. You could easily hook that up directly to the EGR valve when you go to emissions so you are bypassing the electrical solenoid. Once you have done your emissions you can simply cap the vacuum port and block the EGR port on the system.

thanks guys :) jimmy its too bad I couldn't finish it for MOD haha

SPD_FRK, I was actually planning on doing exactly that with the battery tray, but once I mounted the stock intake piping I realized that there's no way in hell that a battery would fit there cause the fuckin huge K&N filter takes up pretty much the whole shelf. I basically hacked off part of the stock battery tray to fit in its normal mounting spot, then I bought a Braille battery. I still need to drill some holes to allow for battery tie downs, but for now its actually planted pretty well with some painters' tape (hahaha.. trying to not take any corners too fast)

I will post pics and vids of it running smoothly soon

Are you running a CAI or a Short Ram? I am fabbing my own CAI system, but too frequently I see a lot of folks here running the short ram intakes...not big for sucking in hot air myself, but colder air is always better IMO.

Congrats Adrian! I'm glad to see it's running. Did you end up using the heads from the 74, or did you swap over the heads from your 72?

beam514
07-26-2009, 11:55 PM
Matt, I used the heads from the 74. In fact I never even removed them. I was getting tons of lifter tick and my valves were leaking tons of oil on the old 72. This swap was pretty much routine maintenance on the 6G74 (new timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump, spark plugs, and gaskets for anything that was removed), throw it in the Galant, and go.

The intake is the stock intake piping up until the MAF. I hacked off the water catch box near the throttle body because it was hitting the brake fluid resevoir and covered that up. The angle of the piping makes it so that the filter sits right on the shelf. This is temporary to keep the engine bay as stock looking as possible so I can pass emissions.

As for the rear vacuum port. I am not quite understanding what you are saying about the EGR. I basically have it set up like the picture below which is actually a diagram for the 6G72. I have made a red dot for where the extra vacuum port is on the Diamante plenum

I have been looking through alldata here at work now for a few minutes. Going from 1999-2004 Diamante models the intake manifold, and vacuum routing are all identical and have no indication/mention of the fitting on the rear side of your manifold.

The only thing I can take a stab at here (based on what I can/cant see in the two photos, and no vacuum line routed to the FPR shown), is that the port may be for the FPR, but there should be one on the side facing the front of the vehicle. Now if there is one there, then forget about this...but right now I am scratching my own head trying to figure it out.

yeap there is one on the "front" of the plenum connected to the FPR, its just hard to see in all the mess. *shrug* the rear port is just plugged with some electrical tape right now lol

I think you will be fine with that plugged on the back of the plenum. Here is the routing for the 1998 style which will be more similar to our 1999 6G72 Galants.

yea the car is running just fine with no CELs or anything with that rear port plugged. I need to find something more permanent to plug it though. The electrical tape isn't going to cut it..

anyway I went to a muffler shop to get an estimate on welding on my Magnaflow, and I guess they had time to do it right then so they welded it on for 60 bucks. Its actually not too loud (at least from inside the car) when driving normally. Part # 14827

Definitely get some videos of the car with the new exhaust.

So what do you think of the 6G74 so far?
So are you running the injectors from the 6G72? don't remember what you said you were going to do.

and I'm using the stock 6G72 injectors. To be honest I've been going reallllly easy on the engine for the past couple of days. Have yet to really open up. I have my first free day tomorrow without work though so I am gonna go for a nice drive :)

still need to find time to put some vids from my camera on my dad's laptop to clear up some space on the memory card.

but anyway my Anti-Lock light decided to randomly come on last night on the freeway... on my way to go down some twisties.. and i mean lots of twisties. Decker Canyon Road to be exact. I still went down anyway and didn't have any problems. Turned the car off when, went to the beach, and came back this morning and the light didn't come back on. BUT, on the way back up some other twisties, the light came on again, then turned off when I started the car again after breakfast, then came on again on the freeway.

So I searched and there seems to be multiple things that could be the problem. Wheel bearings being bad, excessive differences in RPMs of the wheels, and not sure what else. I am 99.9999% the car has not gotten the wheel bearings replaced and it has about 155,000 miles LOL

Okay, I just took my car to a SMOG place down in Mission Viejo. Threw the stock air filter housing on there, made all the extra vacuum lines look like they actually went somewhere, and there were no questions asked. Passed with flying colors. Oh and all for $49.50 haha

beam514
08-20-2009, 12:27 AM
haha no, no videos yet. I just got my new laptop so I finally cleared up the memory on my camera, so now I have 31 minutes worth of recording space on there, so I'll get something soon. Maybe some driveby's, some in car shots, and I was actually thinking of filming the entire drive down Decker Canyon Road (supppperrrr windy.. and about 20 minutes)

Today was the first time I heard my car revving even a little bit from outside the car (at the SMOG place). Even with the stock filter housing, it sounds sooo nice :)

beam514
08-20-2009, 08:22 PM
I picked it up for $450 which included:
-long block
-Intake manifolds, throttle body
-Exhaust manifolds and cats
-power steering, alternator, and AC brackets
-full thermostat and housing
-clipped engine harness (saved my ass on the TB)

I paid about $60-$80 in gas just to drive to the place and back, and luckily my friend didn't charge me to drive me in his truck

stvn_mj
08-20-2009, 08:31 PM
That sounds like a really good deal. I don't see myself doing anything rather huge for my 4 cylinder galant anytime soon and by that I mean boost. So i think a v6 with a 74 would be more than enough for now. What difference do you feel from the 72?
Might I add that I am looking for a v6 but looking for a cheap one where I don't spend too much on it. Kinda of like what Spd_frk got his for. One maybe with a engine problem or whatever where I can get it cheap and just get a 74 to drop in.

Yea 5spd isn't cheap unless you find the stuff at a good junkyard. The prices out here are really cheap but those parts aren't too common yet. I am wanting to do the 5spd conversion over winter if able to.

The 74 build for me will take a deal of time as I will be building from the ground up with forged internals specifically for a boosted build.

The 5spd could be done in a weekend if you have all the parts and a lift really...but other than that I can totally understand lol

sweet man! so over all do you feel the 3.5ltr was worth the swap? tq I know is good right? big difference compard to the 3.0?

beam514
09-02-2009, 12:46 PM
The 3.5 swap was WELL worth it for the amount of actual work it needed and the money required. The swap was fairly simple, even for a self taught kid like me who didn't even know how to change the oil in his car a year ago.

The torque is great in the car. I don't think these 215 tires will be able to hold. I have yet to put the pedal to the metal from stand still, so I am not sure how much/long the tires break loose for, and to answer your question SPD_FRK, I am not too sure on the torque steer. I will post in here once I actually get around to doing this and let you know.

OH and I received the sway bars from lKorty yesterday, so I am hoping to install those today if I have enough time after picking up the transmission swap from Jet_Black :)

haha I dunno about you but I'm on the freeway ALOT. if i don't set the cruise at 65 and let it coast, then I'll probably drive 70-75, which may not sound fast, but could still get you a ticket :)

plus I'm pretty sure using cruise is slightly more fuel efficient because it gives just the right amount of air intake/fuel to maintain that speed, whereas with your foot, even if you might try to maintain at 65, you might be giving too much throttle at some points. This is just a thought based on the mileage gauge on our lexus though

09-05-2009, 02:16 PM
Hmm.. I have my Diamante Plenum and TB setup and my cruise control still fits under the strut bar. Barely though... I'm guessing the slightly taller block height of the 3.5 makes just enough difference for yours not to fit.

yea the bar was sitting on top of the strut tower nuts, and it was already resting on the cruise control bell. If i remove the bell, then it will most likely still hit the metal frame around the throttle springs, and possibly even my throttle cable bracket in the middle of the manifold

oh and SPD_FRK, one of the studs on the strut bar mount is broken, so only one stud holds the bar to the mount. Supposedly it can be replaced with a stud from Lowes or whatever though. I'll have to check out Home Depot (their hardware sucks) and the Do-It Center (built my camber kit from 10.9 grade bolts from here, also replaced broken water pumps bolts)

I really can't do much about the 6G72 injectors or the tuning because my 1999 ECU is un-tuneable (so far).

Once I get around to the 5 speed swap, I will swap in an tune-able Eclipse manual ECU. Then, I can run the 6G74 injectors. As for the exhaust, I really would like to keep the cats there for now, but we'll see where things go :)

okay guys,

so I have the transmission, clutch pedal, a brand new exedy clutch disk, shifter assembly and cables, etc. etc.

essentially all that I need now is the master cylinder, some clutch lines, a shift knob and boot, and most important: a new pressure plate or clutch kit

for street purposes, the ACT street kit obviously seems like the best choice.. BUT its almost $500 (importcarpartsplus). There is a kit on eBay that comes with the ACT pressure plate, an exedy clutch, new release bearing, and alignment tool for $384 +18 shipping. Since I already have a brand new exedy clutch, I was looking around for just the PP by itself, but that is $390 on summitracing.com

SO does anyone know where to get just the PP for cheaper or does anyone have any dece hookups? ;)

Well, take it from Jigz or any other, the shifter cables are a real pain in the ass to deal with since the heater core and stuff is in the way. I saw that res and it looks way better than the remote mounted one on the firewall. Definitely makes for a clean install.

gold instead of bronze this time

I like it! The engine looks more complete with that done. Nice touch.

thanks!

okay so day 1 is done. Removed the auto transmission. I have yet to remove the shifter cables. I'm gonna go get the damn thing to get that bolt out tomorrow, then I might attempt putting all the stuff off. Man that auto didn't want to drop down. It took FOREVER. and I don't understand how warriorlax managed to not unbolt his downpipe because they were blocked the lower transaxle-engine bolts. Then the transmission was getting stuck on SOMETHING for hours. It would be something different every time. And when it finally fell down (not very far cause we had a dolly underneath it) then the torque converter was stuck to the engine. Don't know why. After like 30 minutes of trying to figure it out, we just pounded on one side with a rubber mallet and then it just fell to the ground

what a long day :[

The woes of five-speed swapping. Atleast your tranny isn't noisy like mine is.

IDK how it is for the V6 but on my I4, the tranny dropped much smoother and went back in much smoother as well when you unbolt the roller bracket from the trans instead of unbolting the roller mount from the subframe.

Good luck with getting everything in Adrian!

Very impressive. Ill be def. buying a V6 and doing the 3.5L swap. Good job

Home Depot sucks ass. I get all my tools from Orchard Supply, Sears, or Harbor Freight.

Good luck!

12-16-2009, 08:28 PM
yea I plan to go to sears today. the nearest harbor freight is over this hugeeee hill and is pretty far away.

I don't really plan on putting the 5-speed in tonight. I literally just woke up. Probably going to take off the flex plate and mount the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate tonight, and try to get those dang cables out and put the new ones in

lets hope its worth all the frustration too :-P

flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate are all mounted. Still have to remove the cables, put in the 5 speed cables, then raise the transmission and get that all bolted in. I filled my front and rear motor mounts yesterday so I hope they'll be all settled by tomorrow.

I hope to be receiving my intermediate shaft and clutch pedal tomorrow, but to be honest I don't know the status of my order. I'll give the junkyard a call tomorrow.

okay axle and clutch were shipped out yesterday (wednesday) so hopefully I'll receive them friday so that I can drive the damn thing before I head up to San Francisco. If it comes on saturday, I have to wait until monday to finish everything up

received the clutch pedal and intermediate shaft today. Measured the intermediate shaft and there's hardly any visible to the eye difference in length, though it is about 1/4" shorter I think

anyway I installed the clutch pedal. I gotta figure out how the hell lines route because the hardlines hit the strut tower. Anyway have any pics of how they are running the hard lines?
NVM I think I got them

Hoping to raise the 5 speed in tonight
Oh and I need new CV boots too :(

well I do have an engine hoist.... but its holding the weight of the engine itself. LOL

beam514
12-22-2009, 03:02 AM
5 speed is mated to the engine. I used the engine hoist to lift up the transmission into place. That thing is a BITCH to line up with the engine. It kept hitting the pressure plate.. got it all scraped up :( but whatever

Plan for tomorrow is:
Day: clean, put all the mounts in place, reattach starter motor, raise up the entire assembly again, bolt it to the mounts, attach the shifter cables, run the clutch lines

Night: reattach the axles, fill clutch lines, bleed clutch, flush transmission with cheapo gear oil, then fill with Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90

then.. start her up?! I hope

Dont use the synthetic gear oil. It is GL-5 and it is bad for the synchros. Something in GL-5 is corrosive for the synchros in 3G transmissions. I would try and find some GL-4 or GL-4/GL-5/GL-3 compatible gear lube.

oh shoot thanks for the heads up. I was going to use pennzoil synchromesh but they only had 2 quarts. I'll go back today and see if I can make an exchange

Okay I lied. I'm still having trouble with the hardlines. They don't appear to be the right shape? I'm not even sure

Done!

there's some weird loud noise from the engine or transmission. can't really tell. I'm gonna drive it more today

and my poly filled mounts suck. I guess they didn't cure all the way through (even though they sat for a week) so they started oozing from the inside once it get really hot in the bay.

oh and I suck at driving. LOL

4g63lover
12-24-2009, 12:53 PM
is it like a bearing noise like crackling/grinding? do you hear it at idle? do you hear it when driving? does it go in and out when you are in gear? Does it get louder with the RPM's? if so, we might have the same noise. lol

beam514
12-24-2009, 01:21 PM
no its like a reciprocating tapping/thudding noise. I really can't tell. I torqued the flywheel and pressure plate correctly.. So I don't know. And I don't hear it at higher gears or speeds, only at like idol or maybe up to 1500 rpm

12-24-2009, 01:38 PM
hmmm.. if it sounds like a knock then its a loose flywheel. But you would have a HUGE vibration.

could you get a video?

beam514
12-24-2009, 01:43 PM
The thing is, it's not a huge vibration, I can just hear it. I'll try to get some videos up today

when is it vibrating? at idle or while driving?

beam514
12-24-2009, 08:18 PM
sometimes I can hear it at idle, sometimes not. It actually sounds like its coming from the rear cylinder head as opposed to the transmission/crankshaft. What's weird is I NEVER heard that noise before the swap. But there's no vibration felt through the car. Only sound

You should make sure the rear trans/engine mount is intact.

yea. I filled it with polyurethane but that kind of failed. I'll check them when I get some time and I will probably go to prothane once the holidays are over

found out the the tapping occurs when the clutch is engaged to the flywheel, but is absolutely quiet when it is not

4g63lover
12-27-2009, 12:11 AM
either TOB, ISB, or loose flywheel but since you torqued the flywheel down and im assuming you used threadlock as well, we can rule that out.

I would pull the trans and see if one of the Pressure plate arms are hitting the TOB because they are sticking out.

If it's the ISB I wouldnt worry about it. Numerous people on C3G asked about the same issue and it's just a noise. Doesn't affect the trans whatsoever. You can get it replaced but it will just keep coming back. Even the engineers at the Normal factory said it's just an annoying noise you have to live with.

RAHHHHH someone backed into my car and had the balls to leave my poor car sitting there :( with no note

passenger side door has a huge dent around the door handle. It still opens fine, but it's ugly as sin
