gas gauge

My gas gauge is broken. The gas light comes on when im running low but the gas guage jumps around and when im on E it will say i have 3/4 tanks. Would this be a sensor or the gauge.

Could be the fuel level sender unit...its basically a floater and sends a resistance signal to indicate fuel level. Not sure on the 8gs..but it would require you to remove the fuel pump assembly and replace the sender unit.

Sounds like it to me too. I had an explorer that did the same thing and thats exactly what it was.
