does anyone have any suggestions of a system that isnt very strong. just something that is good enough to hear without like blowing my ears. my stock speakers are good on the pioneer HU just looking for a system that is cheap to add to my car. sometimes i like to hear my music good and loud and sometimes i dont. so i want to be able to shut it off. my HU doesnt have a sub feature tho
thanks

this setup i found at best buy was only $180 one time. it was a box, 2 10's, an amp, and this thing to turn on and off the bass.
i guess $200ish is my price range then
im looking for something really small.

i got me a 3 12" in a pre-built box shipped for like 280 and i got the amp for 150 and the system was rated at 800w RMS mono but u can get the one u saw just dont buy some shitty brand and then blow the subs in no time

the problem with cheap brands is that they tend to get loud, but really aren't clear.
whats the model # of your headunit, i find it strange that it wouldn't have a sub out
i would really suggest going with a single 10" in a nice box and spend just a little more to get a good brand, it will really be worth it in the long run.
www.sonicelectronix.com is a great place to buy things, they have low prices and ship pretty fast
if you can up your budget by just a little bit, i think this would sound pretty good
sinlge alpine type-r
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6474_Alpine+SWR-1022D+-TYPE+R-.html
hifonics amp
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6521_Hifonics+BXi+606.html
and since you are very into do it yourself projects, get dimensions and build your own box. throw in some wiring and you should be right around $325. i know its a little more than you expected to pay, but i really think it would be a solid system.
and just to show that you get what you pay for, im currently buying a box that cost >$200 by itself, sometimes you really need to ask yourself if its worth it to go cheap and not be satisfied

if your unit doesent have sub output spend another 99 dollars and get a new unit with sub out because if you dont youll have horrible control over the amp/sub not to mention u need to buy ainline oitput converter to go from speakerwire to RCA's which will cost you around 30 dollars
with subout you can turn the amp output up and down at the radio
if your looking for something decent go to circuit city and buy the bazooka party pack, it sbox, amp, and sub, ive installed about 6 or 7 of them so far and for the cost there not bad at all
they cost around 160-180 for everything

get an eclipse by fujitsu ten head unit and a 6 channel amp and some decent separates and a 10 inch sealed sub and your system will be good. cant go wrong with 8 volt preout.

nycking: how do i find the hu number?
zigen: thanks for the circuit city thing. is dynex a good brand tho? that other sub setup i found at bestbuy has a bass on/off thing to install in the front somewhere, its connected to the subs/amp

im not a fan of bazooka, their tubes were whack back in the day, dont know about now but i still think they are whack. You can get a JL 12w3 in a sealed enclosure and probably get better and cleaner bass for about the same amount.

bazooka really isn't a good brand at all
and most pioneers should have the model number somewhere on it

ill take a look later for the hu model number, if i remember right its on the front plate or something, ok so the circuit city thing is out, is Dynex a good low end brand? thats the set up i might buy at best buy

alright, the pioneer is nice, but i think 1200W is a little too big for what im looking for, do you think the 10" ones from walmart would be good enough? or the 12" ones? i could pick up the amp from walmart too
would it be better just to stay all pioneer since my hu is and i could get some incar speakers too?

I have Pioneer h/u and in-car speakers, those go together nicely. As far as subs and amp you can go any brand name you want.

kk, im going to head out to the mall to best buy tomorrow night, ill try to find that set up they had for sale, get the specs on it and then ask about it
are 10's or 12's better for certain kinds of music?
i dont listen to like HARDCORE rap, but i do listen to more of an R&B with some rap. i also listen to rock and stuff, but i think i should get subs that could handle the harder music rite?

i would say if you don't want it too strong, go with 1 10" or 1 12" depending on if you want bass that penetrates you or bass that just vibrates you. you need an amp and an amp kit (power wire, ground wire, remote wire, rca's). if your HU does not have rca outputs then you will also need an LOC (line out converter) and splice that into your rear speakers. like the system i have, i have 2 12" SQ subs at 400 rm each, an 800 rms 2ch amp, and it sounds very nice. i spent maybe 500-600. it just depend if you want SQ or SPL.
send me a pm if you have any question.

all personal preference. i personally will never go pioneer. i've dealt with rockford, alpine, and audiobahn (i currently have these).
but like i said, brands are all peronal preference

shit i forgot about my hu model. brb while i go check on it
as for the rest, i guess im looking into 2 10's then. i dont want to go with 1 bcuz i think 1 is ugly alone. lol. anyways, my hu doesnt have anything that has to do with subs. all it has is 6 or 7 equlizer functions.

your rca outputs will be on the rear of the deck. they will not always says sub out. if you have just one, it should say line out. if u have 2, they should be front out and rear out. if 2 is the case, you want rear. if you have 3 (which i doubt from what you just said) then you'll have rear, front, and sub

no i mean it doesnt have any sub buttons that people were talking about to turn the bass on or off, unless we are all just mixing up what eachother says

what some people do for this is install a switch in the remote wire. so you can toggle you amp on and off

nice, so i could get a betterish end system and turn it off, wait do the subs still run with the amp off? just not all the bass rite?
nycking23
03-23-2008, 07:31 PM
subs only run when the amp is powered.
and that headunit has 1 2v preout so you can hook up the amp
fliegendaffe
03-23-2008, 07:31 PM
on that HU you do have 1 pair rca output, so all you need is about 17' rca cables
fliegendaffe
03-23-2008, 07:32 PM
just remember to tune your amp with the gain knob to just before the sub clip or less. just remember, it isn't a volume knob
99 galant
03-23-2008, 07:33 PM
ok then we were getting it all mixed up, or atleast i wasnt explaining what i meant. i dont have a way on the HU to turn the subs on or off. im glad i have a hook up tho :] can i power 1 amp and 2 subs from it?
nycking23
03-23-2008, 07:35 PM
the amp powers the subs, the headunit sends the signal to the amp.
for arguments sake, you could power an amp and an unlimited number of subs since the amp is what controls the subs
and i would be very surprised if you cant turn the subs off through the headunit, i know its a base model unit but i had a cheap alpine one that only had one preout but i could turn my subs off no problem
99 galant
03-23-2008, 07:36 PM
so i just need to get a switch like for my streetglow and the subs can go off anytime i want? that is awesome. i could deff get a better system then
i have a few questions about what i need tho, lets say i go all pioneer, i go with 2 10s that are 600W each, do i only need 1 600W amp?
nycking23
03-23-2008, 07:38 PM
first of all, never go by max power ratings. you need to match the RMS ratings, but some companies tend to overrate or underrate their power ratings.
for arguments sake, a 600 watt RMS amp could power 1 600 watt RMS sub or 2 300 watt RMS subs or 3 200 watt RMS subs, and so on and so on

all the sub watt rating is for is to say how much heat the VC can withstand. so you can use 1 600 watt amp on 2 600 watt subs, your subs would just be under powered which will NOT hurt them

of course you can underpower subs. but why? if that was the case, you may as well use the amp to fully power just 1 sub. using a 600 watt amp to power 2 600 watt subs would be a waste of money.
and RMS matching for someone who is new to audio is a good way to look at things. obviously there is much more to it, like knowing the true limits of a sub or the true power of an amp, as well as correctly settings gains to use things correctly. but for someone who is considering the most basic system such as 99galant, if he is looking to do some searching on his own, checking out the RMS rating is the best thing to look for
