Today, I went to a local junk yard to look for dohc so I can do a swap on my I4 4g64... and I found a kia with 4g64 dohc. My friend and I jumped right on it and took the head out in 40 minutes! Now my question is has anyone ever done a kia 4g64/4g63 dohc swap with the kia head? I need info on making the spark plugs fit and if the stock galant 4g64 manifolds fit the 4g63 head.

oh yeha you shouldnt have taken off your stock head lol, you have no idea what you jsut got yourself into lol, do yourself a favor, save up like 2 grand, you need to research, alot! it dont jsut drop in, list off hte top of my head

evo cams,
1 adjustable cam gear,
the head has to be resurfaced
tested
different timing belt
you can put the kia manifold on it, not sure if you gotta swap the tb i forgot lol
better jsut to get a evo tb and manifold
if you want the same compression ratio you gotta get some pistons
probsably alot more stuff i skipped over, if you dont find it ill find the swap thing its a sticky someplace on the fourm lol

yea i triend club 3g but it hasn't been working for 3 days. I dont know whats the problem with it but i really need to get this swap completed. I just bought new eagle rods of ebay for 4g64 for $220 (yea a great deal) and i am waiting to buy wiseco pistons. After all that im thinkin ill be dropping the head on 4g64, but i needed some info about the cam position sensor, like where to get it and stuff.. thanks a lot guys!

what do you mean move it to a different location? you dont have to move it... you need an evo reluctor and bolt the stock optima one gives off different pulses then what the stock ecu can read

heres my comparison picture

left=evo - middle=stock - right=optima/sonata

so i am guessing i can use the same cam position sensor as the the one on my 4g64 to put it on a 4g63? and duh2150 told me that i need new cam gears because the kia ones wont work. <<< whats up with that?

just one adjustable one, not sure if you have to use the evo one, id use 2 adjustables so i never really researched if i needed a evo cam, but deff a adjsutable one

The best advice I can give you is to not rush.

As you said "I dont know whats the problem with it but i really need to get this swap completed"

Trust me as I have been down this road 3 times. Rushing gets you a car with really cool parts that doesnt work right or will work right for a few weeks and then leave you totally f'ed over with alot of wasted time and money. This is not like swaping in a CAI and a cat back, this type of modification requires extreme patience, understanding and time.

^+1, you need to talk to flashbluers club3g as he did this swap twice already. My head just like this is comming out of the shop next week and let me tell you something i've done over a year on research on this. Like for example the fact that the combstion chamber is 53cc not evo 47cc so your compression ratio is gonna be in the shitter. So you need custom pistons to get this up to the normal. You will need to change cams, gears(both as they are totally different), cam reluctor, and you will need to use the ENTIRE evo intake manifold if you plan on running a turbo on this engine, and no the galant one just doesn't fit. You can use the existing valves/springs though.

Basicly you will need to do alot of homework. This is a fast swap, but it won't be a good one without the proper stuff in it.

yeah man thanks a lot. So i was on ebay looking at forged wiesco 4g64 block w/ 4g63 head pistons. And i am already turbo'd so the intake manifold is going to be a problem. I am going to get a kia optima cam position sensor and the kia intake manifold. Does the stock galant Throttle body fit the kia intake manifold?

i think it fits you jsut gotta rewire the thorrtle cable to work

and how much power do you guys think the stock rods can handle?

i heard up to 400hp, but i think thats on the shorter stroke like an evo
