View Full Version : looking to lower my car.... with limited funds.

can anyone suggest halfway decent coilovers that are not alot of money, I am looking for a even drop and know that only coil overs with give me the stance i want. I know sometimes the ride is really bouncy, and also concerned that my new tires will get messed up from excessive camber. What do you guys think of these?

If it's one thing I have learned about when I started getting into modding my G (or any other auto for that matter), you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap parts, you get what you pay for. Most of the time, the stuff you get isn't worth the postage you're paying on it to get it there. If you wanna get a set of coilvers, then like pinoyesv6 and 99 Galant said, get the good stuff, i.e. Megan or Tein. Otherwise, you'll regret it and you will have wasted your money...

if ur asking this question u don't understand what they are. they are both coilover dampers w/ adjustable ride height springs. you can infinitely adjust the ride heigt of both from just a little lower than stock to about -4"... so which one gives the best stance? both or either or neither if you wanna go lower than 4".

Limited budget don't work when it comes to stuff like this, coilivers are expensive butvthey worth it and springs are cheap and worth it don't get no ebay coilover kit or knock off springs, be patient and save ur money and get the coilivers, and if u decide to get springs then upgrade ur shocks

How much r u looking to spend ??

the rear will sit about even with the front, if you have stuff in your trunk ie a system etc it will sit lower and sag if its heavy...definatelly dont use those or any other drop springs without a/m shocks/struts though they will just blow out and teh ride will be terrible, just wait till you have enough money to do it right, otherwise you will have to redo it and spend even more money

just keep in mind that if lower it "even", it still won't look even. what i mean is if u drop the front and rear the same amount, the front wheel well gap will still look bigger since it is actually bigger. to get the car to look like the wheel well gaps are even, you have to drop the front a little more than the rear... that could account for the rear "sag" u think u are seeing.

look at my car carefully; the front is actually dropped more than the rear but it looks "even" since the wheel gaps are about the same:

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff8/ooreelaxoo/garageprofile1a.jpg

estimated drop is around 3.25" front, 2.75" rear. the only way to acheive this look is w/ adjustable springs or full matched coilovers (or bags)... my setup: TEIN SS-P, INGALLS camber correction kits front and rear.

yeah but both of those will blow stock shocks pretty quickly. if ur gonna go that route, get GROUND CONTROL and KYB AGX or even GR2, and don't drop more than 1.5" (AGX and GR2 are not short body dampers like those that come w/ matched coilovers like TEIN and MEGAN, and will blow much sooner if u drop over 1.5").

basically JUST like i said before everyone. a performance mod like this you need to save up for. its not worth buying the cheap shit, and then it going bad and having to spend more expecially if your wife doesnt want you to spend alot. my gf bitches about my spending on the car, its not her money tho. but when your married money is usually shared. do it right for LESS money in the long run

RAZ_76

Limited funds and decent suspension dont mix. If you dont have the money, dont do anything to it. Wait and do it right. You are lookin at atleast 400 to 500 bucks for a decent drop.

what we are saying is the price "we" pay is what we are giving you. so use those to get your "dealer" price. all we are doing is showing you what we would have to pay for the quality. we dont know the price YOU can get them for. all you asked was that can you get a good setup for around 300. you never said that YOU get dealer price. and even then we dont know that price. take the info for what its worth and make your own decision. if your looking for the cheapest way we dont know the price of your connections. pick and choose from the info you got.

Kyb Gr-2s' are basically stock Galant struts with "Kyb Gr-2" written on the side pf them. i would know, i had a set of them. there about as garbage as u can get. there not much of an upgrade at all over whats on the Galant stock as is. its just a way of saying "hey look new struts with a nametag". there not made for lowering a car. the Kyb AGXs' are but not the Gr-2s'. best thing is to order a set of AGXs' for an 00-05 Eclipse. theres always deals on AGXs' on ebay or even a few websites as well.

For you this is what I would suggest, for you meaning that you have kids like I do, this is the set up I had first and it was perfect. No camber issues, not lowered too much, even gap on all four fenders, looked good and the ride was good, not bouncy. The set up was KYB AGX struts front shocks rear that you can buy for a bout 375 shipped brand new on eBay, then I followed with Tein S- Tech spring that lowered the front 1.7" front & 1.3" Rear. This set up would cost you about 600 bucks to your door and I think it's one of the best, at least it was for me and this is what my ride looked with it and with 19 inch wheels.

Here is where to get the springs.

Not to offend anyone here, but just pick a set of springs its not rocket science. Find a set that is in your price range and buy them.

Here are a list the brand of suspension components you can buy for 8g:

Springs ($)

B&G
Tein
Eibach
Progress
Sprint
H&R
Megan racing

Coilovers ($$)
Ground Control
Skunk2

Full dampers ($$$)
Tein basic or Super Street set-up
Megan 32 way full adjustable
JIC

Just google these items: by manufacture and brand see who sell em and then you can find the best price.

Talk to "Wesellcarparts" on the vendor forum he will help you out.

The look you are trying to achieve will be with Eibach Prokit and Tein. * buy the AGX shocks and your good to go.

If you wonder if any of the products you find will fit just search the forums there many discussions on suspension and fitments.

Hope this helps clarify the whole decision process.

Option1: buy some used springs from the club 3g and buy new AGX shocks. thats what I would do if you want everything all at once.
www.club3g.com the eclipse springs will work on the 8g but the spring rates are different. Some brands maybe the same. (again search and you will find more about it on TGC and Club3g)

Option2 : If you shocks are fairly new then I would suggest just going with the Eibach pro kit it won't lower the 8g too much (1.2 in the front and 1.0 in the rear), so you can ride with the stock shocks. "However do buy the shocks before they blow or soon as you get the money." Overall, it will set you back atleast 250 -350 depending on where you get them from. Verses the teins and other brands that drop lower than 1.5" will require you to buy shocks asap.

Check out B&G lowering springs as well.

i am sorry but you are hard headed, if you do not have the money just save up and do it later, don't be so impatient, everyone has told you what brands to go with, and you keep telling them "how about these?".

I know the car does not look so hot without the drop but atleast she is driving, its better getting the best drop then getting a cheap drop and paying more to fix it when it brakes

Well, there you have it. Those AGX should last another 40K before changing them so by the time that happens, you probably have the funds to replace it. We gave you all the help you could possibly wanted and with that offer, my friend, is your "money shot".

Not sure if you get free shipping. Tein doesn't really make coilover for our cars but we could use eclipse's counterparts.
