How do you remove Wood grain?

I am painting my wood grain an aluminum color. So far I've got the center consol piece by the CD player and heater. I was wondering how i would remove the wood grain on the door pannel and the wood grain by my shift knob (auto trans)?
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

th shift console one snaps out. the doors are held into the panel w/ screws from inside the door. you have to remove the door panel to take the wood trim off. the door panel has a few screws and clips holdin it onto the door.

Just a warning, when putting the door trim pieces back on, do not tighten the screws too much! I did that on the passanger front door when I put in the 2002 GTZ carbon fiber twist pieces and the screw started to come through on the other side. So, now there is a tiny little bump and the plastic is discolored where the tip of the screw started to go through.
