I did this earlier this year. I happened to have the battery out since I was replacing it and I painted the battery tray along with the battery tie down. I sanded all the rust off. And I cleaned the tray well. And then I sprayed it with left over hi temp paint that I had from painting the backing plates when I did my rear disc swap. I just used flat black and it came out real good. And I painted the tie down with Aluminum hi temp paint and cleared that.

i did the same thing as jason but i just used whatever regular ole black paint i had at the time. i don't even think it was high temp paint but it came out looking good too.

that should work just fine. just make sure to clean the battery tray thoroughly first.

With all the effort inolved in sanding it then buying a can of $7 spray paint, you can get a brand new one for under $30.

https://www.mitsubishiparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html

go under the body parts catalog, then electrical, then battery, then battery tray.

is the hold down the right thing to secure the battery, Bcuz on the OEM parts site it shows a cover and a holddown do you need both? Right now my battery has nothing securing it down, so i need something soon.Do i buy the cover and the holddown? or is there something else i can buy to secure it?

the cover is just a plastic shield meant to deflect heat and keep the hold down from digging into the battery, you dont really need that, but you need the hold down.
