Evolution Complete Swap Questions

Right now I am deciding on whether to swap a complete Evo VIII motor or just the head in my 8G. The question I have about this swap is about the transmission. I know when Noel (Cali) did his swap, he used the 3G transmission out of an Eclipse. At first, I was thinking of doing this. But, I had an idea and didn't know if it would work. I was wondering if I could swap a transmission out of an Evo into the Galant and just use their axles for an AWD 8G.
