Well, after doing the swap of 8g lower control arms to 7g Galant, I've decided to swap the upper arms too. It's pretty easy, staight bolt on, no modifications swap and it took me around 1 hour, because I also did the energy bushings. The only advantage that I know of, is that the 8g tubular arms are lighter than the 7g stamped steel, and of course they look better and they are stronger!!!

The picture below says it all, but if you do that please use lots of any penetrating stuff /wd 40, liquid wrench/, because I snaped on of the bolts and it was PITA to get it out.

I am curious of the weight difference between the 7g and 8g rear upper control arms

what about the control arms, what advantages do the 8G ones have? stronger?

tubular is stronger.

ever compared the control arms from a 94 galant to a 98? or a 2g eclipse?
the control arms on the 94 are just stamped steel with an open bottom.

on the eclipses and the later 7g's there is a plate welded onto the bottom to box in the arm and reinforce it.

Think about it, which would be easier to deflect? A 14" piece of "U" steel or a 14" piece of square steel.

lets make it simpler. which woudl be easier to deflect? a flat 2dimensional 14" piece of steel, or a 14" piece or right angle steel( or L shaped steel)
the flat length would bow if you put pressure on both ends. wheras the angle iron would not.

tubular is much stronger than a piece of stamped steel.
the 8g also has tubular lower control arms. that fit the 7g.

suprisingly it hasn't been mentioned but aren't GTZ arms aluminum?

This is great... I was actually wondering if there are any tubular control arms that could replace those on the 7g, they do look flimsy. If I remember right, there were even no backing plates in mine.

does the 2G upper rear control arm bushings fit the 8G upper rear?

Just wondering if I swap my rear arms what does it change in my rear sway bar options.

Edit: I have the 18mm rear sway bar and 8g lower control arms from the pics.... i bought those from Mko a few years back.

Swapping the upper control arm won't change your sway bar options unless you swap to the 8g rear lower control arms.
