This was my original Galant, a Patriot Red Pearl 2001. Bought BRAND NEW, only having 1 mile on the odometer. I went and did only a few minor mods, it was mostly a daily driver.

Just washed and waxed. I loved that color.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_4_full.jpg

A few of my favorite pictures. Also showing custom cleared corners.

http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_2_full.jpg

Added and AEM Cold Air Intake. And OEM 3G Eclipse strut tower bar.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_9_full.jpg

Added 17" OEM 3G Eclipse GT wheels.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_27_full.jpg

Painted Calipers and added "Galant" lettering decals on calipers.

http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_36_full.jpg

Debadged rear lettering, save the Mitsubishi logo which is snapped through the trunklid. Added Weapon R muffler, which actually sounded really good with the silencer in, kinda like the Injen for the Lancers. Also pictured was the color coded rear garnish.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_37_full.jpg

Then one faithful morning at 4:30am.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_46_full.jpg

Needless to say, that was that. Thankfully these cars are some of the safest on the road. I walked out, uninjured. No one was in the other car.

Now this what I be rockin" a 2002 GTZ. I've upgraded.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/12/web/564000-564999/564423_50_full.jpg

Right now just wheels and 8000k HIDs.

Your old Galant looks a lot like mine does now, with the clear corners and the 3G eclipse wheels, we even have the same painted calipers, and I de-badged the rear on mine as well. Good luck with your new one, it looks great.

What would u rate the megans 1-10 with ten being the best?

RedGalant2k1
12-23-2008, 11:24 PM
I'd rate them 8.5.

I'd like electronic adjustability, but for the price I got these for I couldn't pass it up. That and considering the Tein with EDFC was 3x the cost I paid for the megans. Megan it was. Overall though they perform quite well, and are NOT nearly as rough as some people have said.

I have them set at 22 front and 22 rear with 1" overall lowering at each corner. The car is noticeably flatter in handling. Flatter meaning just about zero body roll in hard cornering, and very precise dampening control otherwise. Great buy in my opinion, it would be a hard sell (save the EDFC electronics) of the Tein's or JIC Magics next time around.

Haha I keep my d2's set at 2 in the front and 6 in the back. lol. Its crazy tight feeling.
I couldn't imagine riding around w/ that many clicks on a daily basis. I mean I'd love it and all. but wow.
Props for a sharp looking ride. Love the color.

Hahaha, I will in the spring. Too damn low for the weather as of now, not to mention anything resembling concrete. The VRG sits MAD low, especially being lowered, it is just about two inches from the ground.

Things are looking good I see. Quick question..any way the tip can be slid back some just enough to not see the piping? I know if your going for a somewhat vip style exhaust you probably want it up ward and out some. Kinda what I aimed for with my last muffler (until it got me a ticket so I switched smh).
http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy236/s14kid/IMG_20120603_140236_zps5ed12e62.jpg

Please ignore my earlier stages of mods, but then again this thread isn't about me lol. But just trying to give an idea. But I know our cars differ as where my muffler came with the tip welded right on it, and it seems your adding on a new tip.

Things are coming together nicely. that is interesting info about the VRG rear bumper, I never realized it would be more shallow than the regular VR4 one. Do you have a part number stamped onto it? Were you be able to retain the plastic crashbar or not at all?

4g63lover
08-29-2015, 05:20 PM
At this point the plastic crashbar is NOT on the car. We'll try and trim it to see if it will work but by the time it is trimmed im afraid the structural integrity of the whole bar itself would be compromised. Ideally, the best way to go about it is to make a bar out of DOM steel. Likely, the front would need the same type of custom crash bar.

gtx
08-29-2015, 05:39 PM
I figured that's your other car in that pic :) Yeah, from my experience, the crashbars are pretty close to useless anyways once you are lowered. I was just curious to get a feel for the depth. I used to have a VRG front bumper on my '01, and there's no way anything oem-like would fit under there.

Indeed, you would need JDM crash bars or a heavily modded usdm crash bar.

08-30-2015, 12:10 AM
yeah the vrg front and rear bumpers are way shorter than the vr4. you basically have to shave the crashbar to the point where its probably bendable. I really liked the the vrg rear lips but unfortunately it didn't work with a usdm or vr4 bumper without major modification. if I remember correctly I think I got the rear lip from lucap. but sold it to get a vr4 bumper since I my car was at the bodyshop. Cant wait to see all the pieces on the car. its still my favorite jdm conversion.

The VRG rear bumper is roughly 3" shallower than the USDM rear bumper. The VRG Front bumper is roughly 2" shallower than the USDM front. Even after that, then you have the shave/cut several inches out of the factory radiator core support and frame rail because the foglight openings are several inches higher than any other JDM bumper. Oh, and I don't think anyone has converted and 02-03 Galant to a VRG setup. I think the core support is different than 99-01s.

RedGalant2k1
08-31-2015, 01:00 AM
Removed the crash bar altogether and started notching the radiator support and frame rails.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e52/RedGalant2k1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150830_145527.jpg

This shows some of the cutting we had to do. We had to end up cutting more so the foglight brackets would fit.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e52/RedGalant2k1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150830_145734.jpg

VRG JDM rear shown with USDM rear, you can see how much shallower the VRG bumpers are.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e52/RedGalant2k1/Mobile%20Uploads/20150830_153652.jpg

Front VRG bumper on and JDM headlights in, mostly, a little more finishing prior to installation. The lips are also getting painted as of right now. Headlights still need to be wired.

I wish I've gotten to you guys before you did that, as I did manage to just trim that fog mounting point on the bumper and get away with it. It was on my '01, but after breaking that down, and also my '02, I don't remember the rad support being different other than the upper bumper bracket / grill mounting points. Now I wonder, so I will revisit my pictures.

Regardless, the car is going to look great!

I don't notice any vibration issues. Jigz is lower than I am with his V6, and he says he has noticeable vibrations. He could tell you better if there are any corrections with so much lowering.

Headlights are wired, just need a new connector for the passenger side, old one was badly corroded.

Front Grille re-painted Gloss Black to match the rest of the vehicle.

All 3 of my cars had the vibration at around 70mph once dropped on the same suspension while being AT. Never was a problem when I was 5sp, smooth as butter.

One more vote for a proper photo shoot, you know I have soft spot for that color with VrG gear on it.

My car vibrates like a mfer at lower speeds up to about 35. But my v6 is not just low. It's retarded low. Probably hands down one of the lowest static Galants around. I have a pretty worn intermediate shaft bearing so I'm going to fix that and see if it goes away.

Dave's car should be done by middle of next week. I'm pretty excited to finally see the full complete product. No worries about pictures either. You all will get some good ones. Promise

Much props to my dude Jigz, he said the JDM old style side skirts were a pain to get fitted. I expected that just eyeballing them.

Installing the side skirts, these were a pain, but getting it worked out!

Side skirts on, rear extensions on. Lips should be painted and on any day now.

Car is looking fresh! You and jigs are doing a good job! I hear you on the old style skirts, they look like a pain, that's why I opted for the new style, a lot more forgiving. Can't wait to see the lips installed.

Thanks Jigz and gtx for responding. I'm still AT too and like Jigz my vibrations stop around 35. But quick question, I dunno if it's your style, but would you consider window visors? I recently got weathertechs, and like em both in function and style. But for some reason I feel they would like twice as good on your car. Something about the curve of the skirts and your gtz spoiler has me envisioning them on your car. Definitely your call, but just an idea.

But yeah things keep getting better with each update.

I think the rims match the rest of the car perfect! What are ninja stars?? I assume you don't mean the metal weapons you throw..

There is a certain goal to be achieved here sir, he is not trying to rice out the car with stickons and wheels that don't flow with the rest of the car.

VIP is the style, look it up.
