View Full Version : What Can You Do for Your 9G (Guide)

Mods, put this on sticky it would help out.

What can you do for your 9G?
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anyone or anything hurt from this guide.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note from the OP: I created this guide because I cannot bear to see the 9G Galant being so degrated from the rest of the generation. Everyone knows from the bottom of our hearts that the 9G model is the most underlooked car in the Galant segment. The damage is already done since late 2003 and the company (Mitsubishi Motors World Headquaters) has been dealing with it since. There's an obvious design flaw when Japan discontinues the 380 and calling their new Lancer models as Galant Fortis (rumor has it that the Prototype-S concept will be named the new Legnum). China/Asia and the middle east has it's own 9G (Grunder design), and the Aussies stopped their 380 production line. It may have the performance potential but the design factor is less than ordinary than the previous designs. But with work, you can really place the 9g amongst other models. What does this mean for us USDM 9g owners? Well..... After looking at the "Concept Decepticon 9G" on both car-domain and club9g.com, I was compelled to write something to guide for the new 9g owners a better direction rather than making a fool of themselves and hurting the 9g community as a whole. Whether you own a 9G or not, we need to work together to keep this gen alive. We are family, but it looks like we're kicking our little brother out the door and fending for himself...

There are proud 9G Galant owners floating around the country (you know who you are) that are continuing to improve the vehicle to new levels. I salute you with all efforts. This guide will be constantly updated in time and hopefully one day, be as much eye candy as the previous gens...

Anyways here's the "Concept Decpticon 9G" link (Currently No.1 on Cardomain)

Let's face it: there's only one body kit for this model and it looks like this. So far, only 1 existing person has own this kit. Looks bleak doesn't it?

http://i13.tinypic.com/4hwsgp5.jpg

There is a "JDM" kit from the now discontinued 380 series but unless you have contacts from Aussie it's hards to find.

Krazieluv made a fiberglassed Front lip (as well as Eyelids) as a group buy. You can buy them at www.club9g.com (http://www.club9g.com). Be sure to register :)

Just like the 3G counterpart, the 4G Eclipse front seats has similar bolt patterns as the 9G Galant (you can test fit at your local junkyard or dealership where avaliable). Stock bucket seats has a lot of potential without having to make "custom bracket"...
http://info.detnews.com/dn/pix/2005/07/20/drive/dr20-06EclipseGT3-0705n_07-20-2005_K07D79M-2.jpg

Here are other stock parts you can change/alter (Assuming you got a 2004-2006 base trim model)

- Tail lights (SE or GTS/Ralliart)
- Head lights (Black housing, projector heads)
- Lowering springs (Check 9g - 4g compatibility)
- '07 '08 Ralliart front/rear bumper
- 380 rear window spoiler (a very sought out item)

Performance Capability

The 9G is solely based on the 4G Eclipse platform (or was it the other way around). Anyways, most of the money spent on the aftermarket R&D department went to the 4G Eclipse so it's a no brainer when 4G parts are compatible to 9G. The I4 parts fits as well as the MIVEC V6. The one really left out of the bunch would be non-MIVEC V6 even though there are aftermarket parts avaliable for them. Visit www.club4g.org (http://www.club4g.org) for all aftermarket performance need. Trust me, it's all there, no need to ask "whether if it fit's my car"...

- Fujita CAI, I see few 9G 'ers with them because of price, but somehow most 4G owners sport them. Hmmm?

To be continued....

wow those make the 9gs look awesome

That's what I saying. With good tweaks, a typical 9th gen (V6) can compete against a previous Altima SE-R in both looks AND functionality. I'm still baffled that only a super small percentage of 9G enthusiasts even attempt this. Mitsubishi failed to realise this, but I still have hope for the owners...

lets all get 9gs! no but seriously, they can be a nice VIP car or a nice tuned looking car without being super rice and still have tons of room

I still cant respect the 9Gs front the grill and bumper just make it look like an old persons car. Once again another Gen hating on the 9Gers yes, but this car's been out for 5 years now guys go to home depo and get some fiber glass, that other bumper up there is still just purely plain, and start working on your own cars. By the time I get a 9G if I ever get one there will probably be more stuff out there.

Im gonna see if I can think of anything. That car on top of car domain still doesnt suit my fancy its just a bunch of rice lights and a few other mods when you said top of car domain i thought I'd look at it and want to piss my pants because it was so hot. I stand by what I said 9G need botox to bring the sharpness back.

Here's what it could sound like with a supercharger.

Note the led display, the car can run on alternative fuels such as LPG, and when asked to supply maximum torque the system changes down to petrol, one injector at a time to premium petrol, then as throttle backs off an injector at a time back to LPG.

That's the latest offering here in Aus.

here's the noise in the cabin...:)

Awesome mods. Will consider some of those mods when I get some cash going. I'm planning to get some OEM perf parts like those once I settle all these transmission assembly problems. Then opt for some perf parts like oem ones in replacement from them old stock ones. Such as these Cruise Control Lever (http://www.carpartswholesale.com/cpw/cruise_control_lever.html) (OEM) which I ordered and once received, will DIY.

I have read your post and you are TOTALLY right this 9G Galant has been completely forgotten, which is actually annoying because the 9g has a pretty nice looking body. Now, I have a question, I have a 2006 Galant SE, and I've been trying to get projector headlights for it but I've had NO LUCK AT ALL. What would you recommend ? where can I get this aftermarket headlights ? show I retrofit ?

Good post.

Note: not ALL 4G GT parts fit the 9G Ralliart.... I seem to recall suspension being a tricky subject due to different frames (Yes I'm aware they're based on eachother just as the 9G is based on the 6G75 endevour.), tread lightly.

Ive got a 99 galant es model (3.0 litre v6) it's my first car I've had it for about 1 1/2 yrs and only about 106000 miles, had 98000 when I got it, it's in great mechanical condition has some issues aesthetically nothing major though. I haven't had to put a whole lot of money into it, just cleaning it up since it sat for a couple years. All together maybe a few hundred dollars. Anyways, I'm looking to get a little more performance out of it, so far I'm considering engine performance chips to advance timing and/or air filters. What has anyone else done to theirs to get more performance out of it? It has impressing power now for being a 13 yr old car, but being a teenager I'm looking for some little things that will improve its performance. I'm willing to pay for a performance chip so that gives an idea of how much I'm willing to spend for mods (at most around $200). Thanks

First of all this is the 9g section. Second of all do your research cuz there no chips foe our cars. Search before your embarrass yourself.

I searched on the website for hours trying to find where I could post a question about performance mods and couldn't find anything so I just chose one that looked relevant. And I have found numerous performance chips to advance/retard TDC timing to get more HP, torque, MPG, etc. http://www.gforcechips.com/mitsubishigalant.aspx AND http://www.performancechiptuning.com/Mitsubishi/Galant/ here's a link for some in case you're wondering. Tone down your ego a bit it's just a forum site. I just made an account to post my question and see what other people had done so I didnt know that there was an 8g section let alone where to find it. A simple "wrong section, try this link..." would be fine and were not exactly talking supercars here so come on back down to earth.

If u really searched Fowler hours u would've founds lots of info on performance topics and if u truely took the time to read those links u provided u would've noticed that's they're scam. U also u would have found in your search that $200 doesn't get you any major performance upgrades.

Tone down your ego a bit it's just a forum site. I just made an account to post my question and see what other people had done so I didnt know that there was an 8g section let alone where to find it. A simple "wrong section, try this link..." would be fine and were not exactly talking supercars here so come on back down to earth.

Uhh the first chip listed the JDM stage 3 performance chip plugs right into the OBD2 port under the dash so yeah I had a lot of trouble with that one, and I believe I already said I'm not trying to book a spot on the next fast and the furious, just add a little extra zip to it and get a snappier response, obviously the voltage stabilizer isn't exactly a performance chip, it says that in the name, it's to help break up voltage so it can aid fuel economy Amd help your stereo too. And when I searched for other performance mods the only things I got were massive overhauls people had done, which again I believe I already stated I'm not looking for anything huge to transform my car, something little and I figured a website dedicated to galant freaks might have a little info. No need to jump on the offensive.

You would think he would know about intake/exhaust being an F&F Fan....

Simplest thing you can do to add a little pep is increase the airflow in and out.

Since its evident you don't know where to start.:079:

I've already added a k&n cold air intake and filter that's why I'm looking for a little more, air intakes are inexpensive and help but I'm looking for a little more. But i can see your heads are too big to get my point across so I'll look somewhere else :)

I added a JDM Stage 3 performance chip (it's a plug and play style that goes directly into the OBD2 port under the dash) to my 1999 galant es (3.0 litre v6)

After the "Mad Tyte Gen 3 JDM Performance Chip" fails to light up its LED's, send it back to the seller so they can shove it up their mothers ass...

Did you really pay $200 for a freaken 'game boy' that plugs into your OBD (On Board Diagnostics, as in to diagnose vehicle/sensor malfunctions, not tuning) port? I just ROFLCOPTER'D!!

Quote From Webpage:
How hard is installation?

Very easy. Simply plug the unit into your vehicle when off and start your vehicle. If installed correctly, the lights will flash.

And were the ones with the big heads?

This has to be a troll. It's common knowledge that these "chips" are nothing more than scams.

If you want more power, you pay to play: headers, full exhaust, ported heads, cams, ported intake manifolds, and a REAL tune, and if you really want a better kick, do a five speed swap.

Don't expect any love or acceptance for praising something well known with ANY forum as a scam.

It could be a troll or he just watches a lot of movies and plays nfs games. He said he was a teenager so that's probably why he thinks these chips actually give you more power. Like at my school, I hear kids who don't know stuff about cars saying they're going to put chips to go faster, I just smh when I hear them.
