I finally bought a Honda 50 today. They are pretty hard to come by in these parts. I paid $500. I only found one other 50 for sale in Chicago and it was in really bad shape and they still wanted $1500 for it. I will be working on this bike during the rest of the summer and the winter. I am going to do a full restore and get her looking and running like new.

So how many miles you get on this beast. lol nice find though, are you gonna strip and repaint her. If so I have one suggestion, for stripping the paint use this stuff called aircraft low odor paint stripper, its awesome stuff just be careful with it.

She gets about 75 miles per gallon right now. I have a few cans if aircraft remover in the garage from a couple of old projects. I'm going to strip the paint and fill in all the little nicks and dings and then repaint it. I'm going to paint it a nice shade of blue with a nice white and blue leather seat. i am going to leave the leg shield white.

It came from the dealer with those wheels. I think Mitsu sold the 03's with those wheels. i see them all over my area with them.
I hope to have something like this when its all said and done.

75 miles per gallon:smt108 or the tank?

Thats 75 miles per gallon. My model is a 1964 model. It was able to get 160 miles per gallon when new, but this one needs a bit of work. The tank only holds about 1.1 gallons so I guess you could say 75 miles per gallon or 75 miles per tank. I going to work on getting that number to rise though.

Nice pickup man! I would pick up a scooter too if work didn't require me to use the interstate as 98% of my driving to work.

Here is how she looks at this point. I have started stripping the paint and removing parts. I'm thinking of replacing the engine with a Lifan engine. I just don't feel like messing with this engine right now.

Update: I have been plugging away at this bike for a little less then a month now. I am still in the process of stripping it down to the frame. Next I will take care of the rust, and then start prepping it for paint. I am going to have a shop in Chicago install a new 110cc engine in place of the 49cc engine this winter. I'm going to order all of the plastic parts this winter along with new rims and replacement of all of the chrome bits on the bike. Here is what she looks like today.

Looks good man. All of the Honda 1cyl 49cc motors are the same. So you could rebuild that 49cc motor with the newer Honda CRF50 parts. You can get a stage 1 88cc big bore kit for under $150 now, which is just a new piston, head, rings, and gaskets. Stage 2 big bore kits come with piston, head, cam, rings, carb, and gaskets which is about $250. For about $500 you can get a 108cc big bore kit which has all the parts of the stage 2, plus a stroker crank.

My roommate built a Takegawa 106cc race motor in his CRF50, that thing is insane. I will pull up the front tire in any gear at any speed, its scary and excessively loud lol!

Yeah I was going to go with this http://www.hooperimports.com/product.aspx?pf_id=110cc-4M-i and have the original engine restored in case I decide to put it back in the bike for a complete restoration.

This is what I have so far.

I decided I am going to keep the original engine and just have it rebuilt. I figure it will be better for the value of the bike.

I got some more work done on the bike this morning. I am going to pull the wheels off and have them repaired and dipped in chrome to give them a nice shine. I am also trying to locate some white wall tires in the correct size. I know someone makes them, but I'm not sure who. I'm also going to replace the shocks with a new set even though the old ones are still good. Next I have to figure out how to repaint all of the white plastic.
