so I went a lil photo crazy tonight. I just bought a Rebel XT from work for $275, so I couldn't pass that deal up. Here's some of the pics I too along with a link (http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/fliegendaffe/slr%20photos/) to all of them.

Of the car:

He was using aperture priority and shutter priority, not really auto at all and nothing wrong with those modes.

Night shots under street lights is hard to get a proper wb in camera. Your best bet is to either set a customer wb with a grey card or use auto wb, shoot in raw, and adjust it manually in post processing(photoshop or lightroom, whatever you use).

I ALWAYS shoot in raw and almost always shoot in auto wb(dont have a grey card yet) and adjust what needs to be adjusted in photoshop. Unless I know what lights I am under, like at the fights I shoot, they use tungsten lights and the tungsten setting works pretty decent under those conditions.

Have fun with the camera!

what's a grey card? just settings? or what?

Grey card is just what it sounds like a grey card. What you do is take a pic of the car in the lighting your shooting in then set your custom WB to that card, and youll have a perfect WB. I picked up a 4 pack of the kodak ones for like 15$.

Canon sd1100 IS is a good point and shoot. Grey card is sorta like that but instead a big grey card. Thats got all the adjustments needed youll be fine w/ just the grey card.

guys if you aint paying $3000 plus a lens apeture priorty and manual dont make a shit worth mentioning . keep going man just get the comp and find some good times of day when the pics look good (dusk/dawn is called golden hour, get up early)

Umm what? So what your saying is buy a 3000$ lens then try manual? Why not practice w/ the 18-55 in M AV and then go from there? What your saying makes no sense at all.

you would have to be a fool to pay 3 grand on a lense if youre not a pro photographer! its for fun. and for 3 grand that lense better see through walls!

ok so i'm having an issue. when it's darker out it doesn't always let me take photos when it focuses i think due to lighting. like when i go to take photos and the lighting is good, it beeps after it focuses then i can take the pic. is there a way to get rid of this issue or could someone tell me what it is/does?

try setting your camera to "M" for manual and put your ISO up as high as it goes mine goes up to HI 1, F trap as low as it goes, again mine is 3.5

im not 100% sure but i believe your f trap it controlled by the dial next to your shutter

fliegendaffe
08-09-2008, 08:48 AM
when i look through the view finder and move that dial i notice it changes, the highest number is 4000 which i believe is the lowest correct?

Shutter speed and f-stop is controlled by the dial. Shutter u just move the dial, F-stop you push a button then move the dial. If its reall dark outside you wont be able to focus. A good tip is carry a flashlight w/ you. Shine it on the car (or whatever your using) Focus on the part, then set you lens to manual and take the shot, it'll be in perfect focus.
