Sorry to steal this momentarily, but:

ASTIG figured it out w/ some relays and capacitors... yo ASTIG chime in! basically the way it works is the outside turning light turns on then turns off a few seconds after the signal stops blinking, the capacitors store the charge and keep the bulb on for a few seconds so they don't blink.

I just got my VR4 fogs and have searched for instructions on how to wire them correctly, but can't really find anything. Do you know what type/size/etc capacitor is needed?

PM ASTIG. however, his car is a USDM, so his solution is a work around since our cars do not have the circuit for the turning floods. yours is EDM/worldspec, so your car may have it. in any case, ASTIG has done it on his conversion so he would be the man to ask.

Ok. I was able to install my jdm side markers today.

Here's tools of the trade:
Caliper
Masking Tape
Dremel
Cutting discs
Dry Marker
Level
Ruler
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg151/willamette21/JDM/Picture-3.jpg

I started by drawing a line parallel to the curve of the pender then I used a level to get a straight line.
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg151/willamette21/JDM/Picture001-1.jpg

Then I applied a several layers of masking tape so it won't damage the paint if I slip when cutting.

Over here removing orange parts is the first mod every1s doin :P
But good job anyways :)
How about fix the interior and make a JDM inside aswell ;) In Europe u can get dashboards with LHD and the sportseats and steering wheel from my type. Then u have a VR-4 look inside aswell :)

In ur sig ur fogs are diffrent from the pics in this thread. Can u choose between the outher lights or inner? In the EDM/JDM fuse box we have free space for turn lights not shure its the same on USDMs though

es_fact

I've followed your whole build.. and I'm still dumbfounded at the fact that you manage to paint in your garage... lol

Do you really avoid dust? or are you juss that great at water sanding? lol

Galante
04-29-2009, 12:38 PM
I closed the garage door when I start to paint. So I was able to manage (90% atleast) the dust from sticking on the things I'm painting on. I only wet sand after primer before base coat to smoothen the surface. I do not polish after clear coat because I'd prefer the surface glossy.

es_fact
04-29-2009, 12:40 PM
i see.. thats interesting way of lookin at it.

i'm used to the normal prep... sand after primer, paint, clear.. sand and polish... lol

sometimes instead of polishing.. you can sand it, and slap another 2 coats of clear... looks nice...

Galante
04-29-2009, 12:44 PM
I prefer to make it quick and simple ;) thanks

Galante

IVORY_G
05-10-2009, 07:54 PM
Yeah if you're gonna do Bronze, IMO it would look best with the Dark Bronze w/o gloss. (Just the satin coat) Its closer to a brownish bronze almost and not that "Golden" bronze. I remember there were some 5Zigen wheels I wanted that were in that color, they looked really bad azz and different too.

Exactly, i might just pour little amount of clear w/ the base color on the final coat.

I'll be removing the front bumper again tom. to paint the rad support flat black. We'll see how that will improve the front. I should have painted it before but was hesitant.

did you fix the latch problem you were having?

Galante
06-14-2009, 06:15 PM
Yes, I ended up removing the rubber underneath the hood. It's the sucker that cause it not to latch.. Also I was able to get hold of the 3m 5lbs tape.. I installed w/ out the mesh but it doesn't look bad as i thought.

Looking forward to get the v. lip.. as soon as get the funds to work.

I have been collecting various 5 Speed parts for the last couple of days.. Thanks to Steven (stvn_mj) for the parts..I got the MT transmission today at the local JY which on had 41k kms....

Here's the list
Clutch & brake pedal
Master & Slave Cylinders
Shifter cables and base shifter w/ shift knob
3g Flywheel (needs resurfacing)
3g Trans mount
Galant Stock Auto Starter (This is gonna work right?)
3g MT transmission
Shifter bushings
Clutch hard lines
Clutch fluid cup and bracket

The only thing i don't have so far is the clutch kit, shifter boot and cables brackets bolted to the transmission..

Since I will be using a 3g flywheel my stock flywheel bolts (7) should work right?

stvn_mj
07-28-2010, 07:26 PM
the galant starter should work as long as you use a 3g flywheel.

A few things I recommend for your build before you put it all together, they are cheap and super easy to install and will make driving the 5 speed feel better as it will take the slack out of the cables and prevent the shifter from flexing. It says they are for an EVO, trust me they fit the 3g/8g, I knew several members using them.

not the 3000gt boot.. lol I bought it cause someone said in the 5 speed swap thread that it fits, but nope, it doesn't fit. It's too skinny. For the amount of money I wasted, I'd rather just get one custom made. If someone you know has a sewing machine though, it really shouldn't be that hard to make. It's just a matter of getting the right material

the 3k gt boot works fine as does the integra one.the trick is to take the original auto teim piece with prnd12 and dremel out the whole center leaving only the edges. wrap the boot around it and secure it either by scews, zipties or when i had it i made slits and just put it around the guide tabs that line it up to the center console. screw it back in then put the trim bezel back on and it wont be saggy anymore or show the whole shifter

beam514
08-05-2010, 07:50 PM
dang I think I already threw away that part lol. The boot is super skinny though. I can't imagine it fitting around anything.

fatal1
08-05-2010, 08:49 PM
the one i had worked fine. it stretches a bit too but i didnt have to do too much to get it on really

on a side note if you have a guy parting out an evo why not do like what me and stewi did? he used only the circle trim ring, and molded it to the stock bezel where mine is the actual console cut and molded to the shifter bezel. its not too hard and will look clean when done. we both have pics floating around the site

l'm sorry man...as for the clutch line bracket bolts, are you talking about the one underneath the battery that holds the hard line from the master to the soft line? if you are... i took 2 bolts from the battery tray... one that mounts the tray to the bracket, and then one from the bracket it self lol....

that sucks man. Hopefully you receive those flywheel bolts soon. I found that dealers receive those little bolts and non-special parts very quickly. As for the clutch line bolts, you could probably still throw the 5-speed in there first without them, or do as galantman03 says and take bolts frmo somewhere else. They're pretty generic Mitsubishi bolts

Thanks guys! Or I could probably get them at any hardware store. I just really need those flywheel bolts very badly.. I don't want to remove the auto trans while waiting for them and keep the engine hanging.

Here's a thought.... hardware stores have grade ten bolts, take your old flywheel bolts from the auto flex plate, compare the thickness from the flex plate two the fly wheel, take a measurement, and go look for machine thread bolts in grade ten, that match the length you need... I have the fridanza flywheel, it came bolts that were 6mm too long, so I cut em, and it works great.... look around at hardware stores, I'm pretty sure they'll have something, if not check out a speciality faster store. Hope that helps

get it from the dealer. The flywheel bolts have to be hardened steel.

I will definitely get the bolts for the flywheel from the dealer.. The other misc. bolts I can get from a local auto store..

I got the shifter cables bracket today.. I got it bolted to the trans! I still need the universal connector for the reverse lights. Thanks for the props Jigz!

It's a different car now. I only have to wire the speedo and reverse solenoid. Also I have not properly installed the shift boot yet I just throw it in there.
