I was finally able to figure out how to get the reverse glow gauges working on my car. However, it came at a high price. The gas gauge, the temp gauge, and the speedometere do NOT work anymore. They are not stuck on the glow gauges. I glues the gauges down with rubber cement. What should I do to fix it? My dimmer also does not dim the lights in my car. This was a problem before the glow gauges though.

if u wanna see if the guages are boke. remove the aftermarket ones and see if they work. if they don't well, make sure its plugged in, and its still not, ur basically screwed. if they do work without the aftermarket ones, reinstall the aftermarket ones but don't forget to pull on the needles lightly to give it more clearance to move around. be gentle, u don't want to pull the needle out or break the mechanism that moves the needles. getting a erplacement guage cluster legallly will be an expensive and really long porcess. how big? u got to deal with the feds to get the cluster changed legally so be careful

so the RPM works? the cluster might not be pushed back all the way or the needles may not be pushed in all the way.

Well, I got the speedometer to start working again. I just messed with it and it started working. It seems accurate to me, tomorrow my friend is going to drive next to me so we can see if its accurate. The fuel and temperature gauges however do not work. What if I got a totalled Galant's gauges, put the miles to match my cars miles, and put it in. Would it be ok?

When I changed my gauges I just filled the tank then drove for awhile till it warmed up. Put the gas on full, temp on half and then got on the highway and played with the cruise. Once I was able to go 1 mile in a minute stuck the speedo on 60.

I dunno, I'm going to keep trying to mess with with it. See what happens, then I'll let a mechanic look at it. I do not want to deal with the dealership on this matter at all https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

I messed my gauges all up when I took my needles off to paint them. I was dumb and figured if I just put them back the way they were it would be OK.... uhm no https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif The idle was like 3K and the speedo was off, the gas was not moving and the temp was on H when warm. I figured I was totally screwed. After a lot of tinkering I have fixed them... here's how.

I rolled around for 3 days with the gauge cover off...

Gas: Just fill the tank to full, wait like 10 minutes because you want to be sure it's gonna read F, then just lightly stick the needle on there at the F mark. Took a few tries but it's perfect now.

Speedo: This one sux. There are two ways, one is to have a friend pace you and stick it on there when you reach the agreed speed. The one I did was roll in an empty lot at idle speed and put the needle on 0mph. Mine is within 1mph of actual speed curretly (close enough).

Tach: Just warm the car up for like 15-30 and then stick it on your normal idle speed.... around 800rpm usually

Temp: Same as tach, stick it on the half way mark.

That's all there is to it. The thing that gets me is that they are never going to be perfectly right on ever again..... but close enough. Actually my gas guage is better than it was before https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

yah thats what i tried to do at first, but it was too hard, so i just painted the tops. the light kinda shines through, but its not worth it to me to take em all off and do it again https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif maybe someday

Thanks, I was able to fix the gauges. I used a lot more rubber cement this time. https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
