Just looked at Ivory's build thread, decided I wanted to make one too. Oh, to warn you, this is kinda long winded.

Late 1998

1999 Mitsubishi Galant ES 4 Cylinder.
Been in our family since new. First purchased by my mother in late 1998. Our first new car since we'd moved to the United States. My uncle had a 7G then, and this thing was the new model. I was so excited when we brought it home from the dealership, I got to sit in the front seat! We don't have any pictures of the car from way back when, but this is exactly what it looked like.

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp228/sarukhan12/galant02.jpg

2003

5 Years went by, my mom drove the car every day, I changed the oil and maintained it, other than the major services which we went to the dealer for. One day, my mom finishes nursing school, buys a BMW 325i coupe. The galant gets parked in the garage, still stock, other than the 4th set of OEM mitsu hubcaps that my mom has bought.

2004

I spot a supra turbo sitting in one of our neighbors driveway, slowly falling apart. I painted the ladys house, built her a shed, and cleaned up her front and back yards in exchange for the car. We pushed it over to our garage, and the work began. Eventually got it to run. I was only 14 at the time. So damn excited when it finally moved under it's own power.

2006

Got my license, started driving the supra to high school. Gas prices start to climb. I went drifting every friday night, until one day one of my friends crashed his 240SX and died in the flaming wreck. I parked the supra (which only had minor bolt ons, suspension, wheels and tires, and a tune @ the time) partly because of what had happened, and because I couldn't afford to fill it with premium at the rate that it drank it.

2007

The Galant coughs to life after 4 years of hibernation in the garage. Fresh fluids, t-belt, some new gas, and she was ready for the road, still stock, but ready. Mom's bimmer is sold, she gets a new RAV4

First modification was my old supra wheels and tires 16x8 wheels with 235 toyos. Car was still at stock height. I thought it looked bad ass, but unfortunately they rubbed when I turned. Back to the steelies.
I don't have pictures of the galant on the wheels.

2008
Meanwhile, my uncle has moved up here from Cali, and brings his auto garage business with him. He had an old Celica supra back in the day, so when he saw my supra, we started building it up. I will make a separate build thread for it later. With the money from selling the stock parts from the supra, I began to slowly modify the Galant. After a good deal of searching, one of my buddies found a set of 3G Eibach pro kit springs with only 3k miles on them for 30 bucks. I had Tokico stock replacement shocks/struts waiting in the garage, so the car was dropped. Almost at the exact same time, I came across a set of 3G wheels with decent tires for only 200. Picked those up, painted them gunmetal, and put them on. Also around this time, finished my first fiberglass project, and made a VR4 style grill. Only problem was, I made it JDM size, so there is a gap between it and my lights now. That too was painted gunmetal. Last mod at the time was vinyl tint for my stock headlights, I wanted to darken them without taking them apart. It was not worth it, the lighting was terrible.

Here it is, after the drop, wheels, grill, and headlight covers.

I decided to get a CF lip spoiler and emblem (real CF, not the fake crap). I also took the headlight covers off, and cleared my headlights and painted the fogs yellow. Painted Calipers and drums red.

Here they are.

My uncles shop welded up a 2 and 1/2 inch cat back for me, decided to stick with the stock muffler until I figured out what exactly I wanted to do with the back of the car. Got a stainless tip for it to make it look a little nicer. I also took some piping and fabbed up an intake for my car, painted it red.

Here it is

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp228/sarukhan12/p1000915fn3.jpg

Also got some blacked out heads, switchback leds in the corners, and leds in my taillights. Cut out the middle part of the opening in the front bumper.

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp228/sarukhan12/p1010237jm9.jpg

Cleared gauge cluster needles, added blue LEDs, moved the license plate into the lower opening and got some black mesh for it. Painted drums flat black, and matched the calipers to the body color.

Yeah it is, got if from a member on here, redrilled some holes so that it lined up well, it almost a direct match for the "wood" trim inside, so I liked it.

Where did you get that Shift knob?

I like the red in the engine, I might try that someday.

I know this is a Galant Forum, but you should post pics of the Supra also, Id like to see how the restoration is going.

why does your grille say TURBO?!?

That was the old turbo badge from the back of my supra, since I was making the grill, I decided to see if I could fiberglass it to the mesh for fun, I kinda wanted to keep some part of my supra going while it was down and out, kinda one of those sentimental things.

The shifter I got from a member here, you can probably find it on ebay, there is a thread for the supra somewhere, just search supra in the members rides, I'll update it one day when it's done.

greddy what did you use to paint the manifold with and the head?

I didn't paint the intake manifold or the head, but I'm assuming you are referring to the valve cover and air intake. I used VHT high temp caliper paint, with several coats of clear. It gives it a nice glossy look, not too shiny, which I like. It has held up well to the heat so far, no problems.

I'm putting on the KYB AGX that I've had sitting in my garage for almost a month this Saturday. I have the 4 way adjustables in the front, and the 8 way adjustable in the back. Keeping in mind that it's on Eibach Pro kit springs, what settings would be best? I know I can adjust it later, but I do some spirited mountain driving on my way to the university because the freeway is a mess and mountain roads are a lot of fun. Any suggestions?

Just a small preview of what is to come, this is just one quick coat, no clear, wanted to see what it'd look like before I sand really paint it properly. There will be a several new additions to the interior soon, I will post pics once it's all done. Also, you guys running AGX shocks, are your's 4 way adjustable in the back, or 8 way, because mine are 8 way, wanted to see if anyone else had those. http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp228/sarukhan12/P1010610.jpg

That is why I was confused when you told me that it had 8 settings in the back. I know that there are no KYB AGX for 8G with 8 settings. Only 4. Good news though, I have a brand new set with Megan springs ready to ship out... and they will fit.

greddy

Finished painting the interior, however, I will be painting it again. In the previous post I used high temp header paint, which turned out great, I really liked the greyish black color that it had. This time around I tried some semigloss paint, and the actual painting turned out well, just the color is a little too shiny for my taste, so tommorow, for the third and last time, I will buy more header paint, and be done with the project. Oh, almost forgot the Nardi steering wheel! Thanks Ray

I actually did 2 coats of flat black engine enamel, then 2 coats of clear, I didn't want a shiny black, and it turned out great, doesn't scratch or scuff when I scrape it with a fingernail or something.

On another note, it turns out the rear AGX shocks that I received before were for a mustang, that explains why they were so different. The people I bought it from are taking care of it, free of charge.

It's a switchback led. I don't remember where I ordered them from, I will look, I think the only person who is running them is Reelax. They flash amber when you put on your turns, but stay white when the corners are on. Only problem is, they are about 55 shipped for a pair. But they are excellent. I love them. Just make sure you wire them properly so they don't blink like crazy. Theres a wiring diagram somewhere on here that Reelax made.

Yeah, I originally ordered a set for my H4 USDM headlights, now I need the H7 for the USDM, so I shipped the bulbs back and kept the ballasts, I'm just waiting on the new bulbs.

Evo 9 wheels should be on by this weekend with 235 width Advan A046 tires. JDM fender flares are on their way, rear disc swap should be done 2nd week of October. Rewired my high beams to act as my daytime running lights, and I checked with the cops, as long as they go off before it gets dark, I won't be getting tickets for driving with my highbeams on.

The yellow lights, or the bluish lights? The yellow is just some PIAA yellow H1 bulbs that I use as daytime running lights, the bluish white that looks green in the pictures are 8000K HIDs, in person they are a 95% match for the color of the corner lights.

I've considered that, I'm still on the fence between leaving them as is, painting them gunmetal, or painting them another color, can't quite decide, but I'm gonna wait until spring and the weather is nicer.

Here's the fogs installed, just have to mount the plastic parts and then they are done.

I'm pretty sure it'll bolt right on because Thashiznith has it on his 8G stock, I know that his is EDM, but some of the EDM galants came with the wheel I have now, and some came with the one I just bought, so I figure they'd be interchangeable since I didn't have to do any mods to put on the wheel I have now.

I swapped gauge clusters but kept my original mileage by switching to my original odometer, very easy to do, and swapped my gauge bezel with one overlaid in cf, same with the door pull trim. I know I still have woodgrain, bear with me, it will be gone soon.

So, fixed that broken liberal grill I have ( a real one btw, just overlaid in cf) rewired my heads so that my highs don't light up all the way when they are on with my lows, looks kinda like DRLS, and installed a lip I found laying on the side of a country road, required maybe 2 minutes of cutting, and it fits damn near perfectly, the grill and lights are done completely, the lip isn't actually on yet, but there was no trimming necessary on the ends, they match up nicely to the ends of the bumper, I will actually install it once I sand and paint it since it's kinda scuffed up I'll keep it on until I get my VRM bumper, anyways, enough talk, here's the pics...

So i did some rallicross events recently and they really chipped up the paint on my wheels. Since I've decided not to powdercoat these since I"m getting new ones soon, I went ahead and repainted them. 3 coats of magnesium blue, two coats of gunmetal, and two coats of clear. Only got the rears done so far, don't mind the rear drums, they are coming off today since the weather is finally nice enough to work on the car. I love the way the wheels came out though, cuz from distance they look gunmetal, but if you're close and the sun hits they sparkle with a bluish color

Index cards, just place them between the tire and the wheel, I was gonna powdercoat them but then I figured I'm getting new wheels pretty soon so there's no point in spending a ton on that. I used two layers of engine block primer, followed by 3 coats of magnesium blue, two coats of gunmetal, than a very very very light coat of magnesium blue, just to get some flake on the gunmetal while it was still a little wet, and than two coats of clear to finish it all off.

Old styles would look good, you should join up on Cali's Group Buy for them. They will already be modded to fit USDM. I think like $230, but we need a couple more ppl, and a donor set.

IVORY_G
06-05-2009, 02:43 PM
Dont think you can wrap just the underspoilers, the whole piece would have to be wrapped. Thats why just a lip for teh USDM would work better. Then u can just wrap the lip.

dknight3
06-07-2009, 02:14 AM

why cant you?

IVORY_G
06-07-2009, 09:48 AM
I was under the assumption that when you wrap something in CF, you have to wrap completely around the edges onto the side that isnt visible.
So if you wrap just the JDM underspoilers, it would stop at the bumper line, and look funny. It would look best to wrap the whole bottom spoiler line in CF. And you cant do that with the bumper unless you wrap the whole bumper.
Thats why I said a USDM Rear Bumper Lip would work better, bcz it would be like attaching the Mugen/VRG lip, and you can wrap the entire lip, then install it. And the CF would wrap all the way around the Rear bumper.

Looks great, you've had amazing progress since the beginning...great work!!

The wheel setup would be tits in 18" Tires would poke a little more, and then run some more camber and its perfect!

CF Trim looks good, but Tires look a lil thick on the wheels, what size tires are they?

Gah....that carbon fiber would make me dizzy driving lol. I love the stuff, but wow. Looks good though, I definitely think the wheels came out better looking once we could see them mounted with the tires on.

BTW, would you be interested in taking my stock Mitsu CD Player? Its the add-on one form factory that sets in below the vent controls...let me know if you want it

235s all the way around, I got them basically for free so I couldn't refuse, SPD, the stock CD player really won't do me any good since I just hook my zune up, I am getting a new system in a few weeks though, it's just taken forever to find a headunit that actually works with a zune as opposed to an ipod
after the system the interior will be done other than the upper dash and door panels being wrapped in black suede and evo recaros in black and tan suede.

Greddy Spectrum Elite Exhaust for the 3G, took about 6 months of waiting to get it, worth it however, sounds amazing, obviously it was extended to fit the galant, no rasp whatsoever, extremely quiet while cruising and under low load.
