This just started happening today. When i accelerate to about 40 mph, i start hearing a grinding noise coming from my engine. Its not the brakes. Any suggestions? I'll prob just have to take it to a mechanic in the morning.

If its a grinding as you feel the gears change, it might be your transmission. Youll notice it because i have the same problem. As i accelerate, there is a grinding noise from 1st to 2nd.

Check your axles, they go to your transmission and they grind, usually on take off. Boots might be trashed, no grease and metal on metal will sound just like that.

Hmm...i should check those. Ive got 132K and never replaced them yet, so maybe im due. I hope it is my axles shitting on me. Id rather replace axles as compared to a transmission:p

I was told (but did not beleive) that when replacing a CV boot you should just replace the whole axle due to the amount of labor involved. Is it true? I'm pretty sure one of my CV boots is gone haha

yes thats true, also you never know how much damnage was done to the axle from having no greese.. so you can go through all the hassle to have to do it again, and when doing it at a shop you have to pay more labor. Where I work we will only do the whole axle not the boot, against policy..

Hi All,

I am experiencing something very similar. the only thing it is that my grinding noise is coming even when the car is at a red light and not moving. I popped the hood while parked and seems to be coming somewhere near the fire wall / stearing pump. Any ideas would be of great help.

thanks!
