God I hate the black ice!!

I was on my way home after visiting the custom car shop to let them hear my newly installed muffler (which sounds great BTW) and I'm out in the middle of nowhere on an old country road. I come around a turn doin probly 20 or so, not fast at all. I hit some black ice, the car skids to the left lane. So I hit the brake nice and easy trying to gradually slow it down while turning it slowly to the other lane. I hit loose rock salt on the left lane and lose traction again, it jerks to he right, and lands itself in a 2 foot ditch. The car hit the side of a water runoff and stopped quickly. But the weird thing is, the airbags didnt go off. I hit the side hard enough to where the airbags should of gone off, so this makes me wonder if something worse happens will they go off? Luckily I wasn't jarred around too hard and I wasn't hurt. The car took the worst of the damage, a chipped up and cracked front bumper and a hanging foglight on the passenger side. My dad told me to get online and find the best price I could find for the Shogun bumper, so I think that's the one he's gonna replace the OEM bumper with. Hopefully everything will work out. Bummer bro! But at least your OK, that's what matters.

The air bags have sensors around the car that need massive contact before they deploy, that's why a fender bender shouldn't deploy airbags. I guess you didn't hit that damn ditch hard enough https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

If your dads considering replacing the bumper with the Shogun and you were not harmed, this actually could be a blessing in disguise :wink:

That sucks man, my friend was driving home from church one day and hit a patch of black ice, rolled her brand new PT Cruiser and totalled it. I hate black ice...even though you are bein cautious it still will get you. Just think if you were taking that corner at like 40 or 50, you might not of had a Galant anymore.

at least your pops is gonna buy you a shogun front maybe :biggrin:

Second generation airbags (that's what your car has) only deploy on front impact. That is where they do the most good, and they would actually be more dangerous deploying in a side impact than any good they might give. This is why they invented side impact airbags, but the 7g Galant pretty much pre-dates that kind of technology.

i got hit on the side kind of and my bags went off and i also got into like a 5 -10 mph accident and it blew my bags more of a pain in the ass ..then any thing its wierd to see that everyones doin the same thing as me and kitting the glant after a accident its a sad but effective way to get the kit process done i guess
