can anyone tell me where to get a heater core? Maybe a little cheaper than the dealer. The dealer is $205

Its a 2002 g 2.4l

Not sure but i think the only interchangeable core is with an 03.

Thanks,

yeah i gave the vin to the dealer and they said there were two different heater cores. Unfortunately I need the $205 core.

The late 02's and 03's use em.
SUX...I just started my new job so moneys kinda tight.

$165 too at the dealer at my location. $85 is a good deal I would say.

Well $85 is for the heater core I bought for my 99, I didn't know they were different for 02-03 models. Same if you call the dealer right now and ask if 00-05eclipse suspension fit on 99-03 galant, they will say no it will not fit because they are a bunch of morons that just read what the computer tells them and they have no hands on experience. Well dude you have to change it one way or another so, take it out and you will see that it's the same. Then go buy one for a 99-01 models and save you over 100 bucks.

The reason I say that they are the same is because the connections are the same in the firewall and the heater+AC unit under the dash is also the same 99-03 models. I dont see what else would be different about it. When I took my 02 apart, it was the same under there as my 99 and my 01. The only thing that they chaged a little as far as wiring goes is the Hvac Controls but you dont have any wiring going to the Heatercore.

yeah i get what your saying, Just thought maybe inside it might be a different shape. They all work the same and do the same job, just didn't know if they were similar....and yeah, gotta agree with you on the moron part.:D

I did do a search to R&R a heater core, but didn't find if anyone did it without removing the box. Is it possible.

No it's not possible because the heater core is held in place by Phillips screws and they are on the back side. The only way to get them out and free the heater core is to remove the system or that black box. Have fun because it's alot of stuff you have to remove. It took me all day to remove and put back. The dash has to be removed, that steel bar you see in the picture has to come out, the steering wheel assembly has to be removed off that bar and many more. The dealer will charge like 700+ for labor to do this so just think about that while your doing it and it will get you thru because you know how much money you are saving. A heater core is a small radiator, hot water goes thru it and when you turn on your heater, voila! Nothing special about it, just a radiator.

Here was mine when I did it.

But, yeah I've done plenty of em. I'm a tech at a facility for The City of Lubbock.
Just wondering if both were similar in shape...guess i just have to open it up and compare.
Thanks...:D
