i just sawed off all the little bars on my grille (cheap way to make it look a lil better) but its left with little stubs. I want to paint it silver (body colored), but a shop told me that i cant paint over the chrome-like paint cuz it'll just come off in a little while. he also said i cant sand it, cuz it wont work. i tried to sand it, and it really doesnt come off..what should i do? about the stubs and the paint.

Dunno why your experience is more difficult, but the shop that did mine cheaply basically did what you did -- cut as close to the grille as possible to prevent having big studs, then file down the studs with a file then fine sand paper sanding, and lastly silver spray paint over the unpainted portion of the studs. Worked out just fine for me.

See, that's why for my front grill, instead of moding my chrome grill I bought a DE grill and modified that. I would suggest getting this stuff I saw at Walmart. It was some kind of special primer that gauranteed to stick to any kind of metal or plastic. If you start with that and then paint the grill, everything should work out. Or you can try and paint the chrome after lightly sanding it, but it will easily come off with road debris hitting it.

if you paint over chrome without using an etching primer, the paint will come off. Go to your local auto paint distributor (those who sells materials to the body shops) and ask for it, make sure it will work on chrome surfaces https://www.thegalantcenter.org/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Or just sand the chrome off......

you really don't have to sand the chrome all off the way. just hit it up with some steel wool or something to help remove the dirt and get a good place for the primer to stick. then hit it up with a primer and then ur final coating of paint and clear coat

I've been thinking about that same mod. Remember with painting jobs - you're going to notice way more stuff when you're working on it than anyone else ever will. And I would definitely sand with a 150-200 grit paper and use a proper automotive primer.
