looks good!

just a suggestion:
It looks like the areas that were folded for shipping purposes weren't completely restored. It will really look so much better if you can straighten it out some more. I had great success with a heat gun. Just be sure to only heat the back side of the bumper...and not too hot either.

I hear ya. I've done a little work on it since these pics were taken (about a month ago). Thanks for the advice. Maybe in the Spring I'll do some more. Its just too cold in MN to do anything now. :)

Hey Pete, looks really good. i was noticing what astig was talking about with the bumper. it doesnt seem to be the bumper because my old style vr4 bumper had that little rasied section under the headlight as well once installed. i figured out that it was just the ends of the crash bar even after being trimmed. i took a little more off the sides and made it conform to the bumper better and now, no bump. just do this soon as it may begin to crack your paint right where the height of the bulge is. i dont know i may be wrong. lol.

polishmafia
11-20-2008, 09:36 AM
Good info, you might be right. Cutting that crash bar with a sawzall and a dremel heavy duty blade was a pain in the ass LOL! I think I might trim it more to see what it does.

Also, I still think there is just something not right with the headlight fitment. I think the need to point down just a little. Its a never ending battle with our cars though, and thats why we love them. :)

I agree with you but theres no way he could've gotton the same angle if some one was driving, I guess you could do it on a dyno but if that the only reason your paying to use a dyno not worth it eh

i know exactly what you mean man..
use a grinder for the crash bar its pretty easy.

i think i got my fitment pretty good the second time around.

agreed, like i said above, i was very pleased once everything on the bumper lined up properly and i had virtually no gaps anywhere. the only thing i cant figure out is the hood. i cant get the hood as closed as i used to be able to. so it looks like its sitting just a tad bit up more than the fenders at the headlight. ive tried everything and still cant get it to come down yet everyone else's sits flush like its supposed to. i thought for a while the weather stipping on the leading edge of the hood was too big but then i re-evaluted that and thought otherwise. meh, you can only notice it if you look at it good.

Damn that looks good.

Have you adjusted the bump stops? Anything else in the way? Battery, tower brace? There has to be a reason why it won't close further.

boostzealot
11-20-2008, 11:09 PM
thanks on the compliments man.

as far as the bump stops, did those. completely removed them at one point, added washers to the most aft bolts on the hinges, tried to mess with the headlights, and a slew of other things. my battery is not a factor as i have a braille lightweight battery and it sits behind the headlight. the stb is from carbing and even with it off it did this (i know because for the first coupld of days of having the jdm conversion done i didnt have the time to install it) ive even played with the latch to see if that was too high and to no avail, it sits like this no matter what i do. like i said though, its not that bad.

maybe it's got something to do with the aftermath of your wreck back in the day?

boostzealot
11-21-2008, 12:21 AM
i was thinking that too but the way the crash push the fenders and rad support was back and down not up and back like it would seem to make this happen. sighs. now im thinking about it again. dammit

RAZ_76
11-21-2008, 12:32 AM
BJ, try to get the rubber stops lower, also see if you can get the hood latch to go down some. My guess is that the radiator support was not installed properly or is aftermarket and sometimes that happens if you go cheap with those.

dknight3
11-21-2008, 01:05 AM
its probably the headlights sitting a tad bit to high i would think.
its not really that noticable though i would worry about it too much.

edit: i dont know now that i think about it its gotta be the latch man..

boostzealot
11-21-2008, 02:07 AM
i moved the latch down once before and the hood acted like it didnt want to close. it would catch but wouldnt stay caught and would just pop back up. this was the only way i could get my hood to close everytime i shut it. ill have to mess with it a little more once i get back

Look right around where the foglights come through the JDM bumper, that is where it will most likely be hitting the USDM crash bar.

polishmafia
11-23-2008, 08:52 PM
Well I took off the bumper and fogs, looked through the fogs... etc etc and the bumper is definitely not hitting the crash bar. I think the bumper is just bent from shipping. Once its gets warmer here, I'll mess with it some more.
