Your granny mount looks like mine but my rear motor mount is worse than your. All I need to replace is the passenger side mount and I should be as good as new

yeah they were bad, ive had the car for three years got her at 62,000 miles viberation was not as bad then but you could feel it, when i replaced she was just over 151,000 miles. i replaced them with the OEMs after reading a lot of threads and comments OEMs were the best way to go for a daily driver. I just spent the money and went to the dealership. 30 something for the front and rear and 90 something for the tran and side mount. i know it was a lot but fuck it. when it comes to fixin my girl money doesnt mean a thing, labor was 50 mainly cause i didnt have the tools so i had a freind that had the tools help me out. took about 2hrs. she drives prefect now. i was so use of the viberation i would throw her in N, but now it feels like the car is turned off, smooth! it was worth the money.

I'm assuming this is fairly simple, I have the haynes manual and it looks like this is a pretty simple task, correct me if I'm wrong, you guys run into any specific problems?

the rear one is hard to access and get leverage to remove the bolts without removing the battery

doing the tranny mount after doing the front and back rollers is a PITA so do it while doing the front and back

the front one is the easiest

i havent done the passenger side motor mount yet so cant help you with that one much but it looks easy

yea, spdracr is right on point..passenger is the easiest one ...when you do the job just make sure you put something between the jack/and the oil pan..thats how i dented mine

The time has came!

Is it now, or it has passed? I'm confused. ;)

I paid like $200-230 for all 4 mounts on eBay for the Mitsu OEM replacements. Then paid my mechanic to do it, bcz i like my knuckles! LOL! Didnt feel like messin with the hard to get to ones. Didnt take him but an hour or two. Did it like March or April last year.

Say I was to bring my g to shop and have all the motor mounts changed, what should I expect as far as price?

silver01g

Not really sure, the dealership was gonna charge me $447. for all four. You'll save "A LOT" more money if you didnt it yourself.

732Galant

How hard is it to do yourself?

silver01g
01-15-2009, 08:34 AM
its not that hard, air compressor will make it really easy. if you dont have one then that would be your toughest part, loosing the bolts.

I need to do mine too.. I'm sure it's much harder for the V6's..

How can you tell if it's the motor mounts are bad in your Galant? My Galant vibrates at idle in drive (and a little in park) but soon as I start moving it stops and the car runs smooth. I looked at the mounts and the rear mount near the firewall looks pretty bad. The tranny and the passenger side mounts look good.

My car is a 2001 4 cyl with around 110k miles on it.

one bad mount can make the car vibrate. but in honest truth replace them all, better now then later. are there any tears or cracks in the others? at 110k miles you may wanna start investing if you've never changed them before.

Well the tranny and passenger side mounts look fairly new. Maybe only a year or two old, I bought the car around 9 months ago so I have no idea if they were changed.

The front looks bad but not anywhere close to the rear mount.

If I'm going to replace should I buy OEM mounts or other better quality mounts? Where's the best place to buy them from? I'll be doing the work myself.

asking a question like this my friend will get you flamed!

but to answer your question: you have only two choices in mounts, the OEMs and Polyurethane. It is best to go with the OEMs if your g is a daily driver. Polyurethane is mainly used for proformance cars.

best place to buy them is your local auto parts store, as far as the mounts being fairly new, you cant judge them without either sticking your finger in there and feel them or taking them out to look at them
