So as you can see my pillars are a mess,
any little poke and it flakes all over the place.

I want to restore them so they wont flake and I want them to have a hard surface and possibly paint it black.

Any help or guidance with what molding, paint, clear coat I should use?

Buy some from the junkyard. If you don't have any near you I could hit up the one near me and grab you a set since I doubt that cost that much.

Wrap them in black imitated leather (or real leather, if you've got heaps of cash :)).

10 bucks at the junk yard compared to like 35 for all the paint, primer, promoter, sand, paper, clear and bout 4 hours

How do I remove these pillars?

They snap in, they're really easy to remove. Take a credit card and slide it under the seam around the top, and pull gently from there first, then move your hands down the edges to pry it loose so you don't end up snapping it in half. (They're ABS plastic, IIRC, and not that hard to break, but still.)

Installation = reverse of this process, but be careful of the rubber trim around the door. From memory I believe it goes over the trim you're removing, so when you put it back in, make sure everything is as it was before you removed things.
