its called a check strap

MR134886 is the part number. its cheap at the dealer, and even cheaper at a junkyard.

extremely easy to replace

dont get it from the junk yard cuz the ones you will pull from there are most likely half way through their life like the ones i got so spend the extra few dollars and get them from the dealer, that reminded me i still need to go to the dealer to get one for myself

There were 3 galants at the junkyard.. I only found two back ones that were good! All the fronts were destroyed.. That guy was crazy..

just a lil FYI both sides are interchangable, if you look at them you will see L stamped on side and R stamped on the opposite side, but you cant use the rear to the front and vice versa

Is this the piece that stops the door swinging open quickly, i need a new whatever stops the door about half way open, you know the bit that stops you smashing other peoples doors in carparks, i feel like an idiot but i cant think of a better way of putting it right now.

Thanks for the info on this too. There isn't even a Mitsu dealer in Tucson anymore. Know where I can order from? Thanks

I had to get this replaced a while back too. On the inside part of the door, where the hinges are, there is a black piece of plastic over a metal bar that keeps the door from swinging wildly open. This piece also keeps the door propped at the 'mostly open' position. Without it the door will just swing back and forth when open.

I think mine is shredded (I know I seen a black plastic cover over the piece you're talking about on one of my cars and it's fucked up looking). I'll have to look when I go on a lunch break.
