Im looking at buying a 2000 galant. It has 180,000 miles, 4g64 4 cylinder, power windows, power locks, aftermarket cd player, Now for the bad...it has a CRAP load of body damage....will post pics later if i get a chance to take some. any how its only $500! :D. I own a 2003 mitsubishi Lancer es in near Perfect condition but my girlfriend needs a car so this sounds like a good deal.

Some questions.

What maintenance should i be prepared to do at 180,000 miles?

What is the name of the paint color and code? its the light seagreen one.

Do you think this is a good deal?

What are some sites to buy CHEAP body parts for the 8th gen Galant?

Depending on where the body damage is and how bad it is determines if its a good deal or not. Get under there and check the frame suspension and everything for visible damage if the front bumper is hit check the radiator. If its anything but body damage that is big I would say its not too good of a deal unless you're willing to put money into it. Either way if you dont like it buy it and part it out if things other than the body are in good shape people on here will be interested.

Well the plan is to buy all the body parts and have it painted pearl white. It runs good. Is the lug pattern 5x100? Its a DE if that helps. And the front bumper isnt hit but the fender is. No Frame damage. It needs a new hood, passenger side fender, driver side mirror, possibly drivers side rear quarter panal, and an overall new paint job.

5x 114.3 is the lug

The rear quarter may be the only expensive part i got a quote on mine replaced and painted for $1000 gl with it if u decide to buy

Yeah thats what I was saying I mean as a parts car it could be a good deal but as a car you want to drive it doesnt sound too tempting. There is a car on NY craigslist for 250 comes with radiator and all exterior parts it need to be repaired. Its a 1998 G that would be a better deal.. If I had the 250 to spare I would have turned that into one of my projects but right now Im fixing up the G and I just bought the truck so Im done on buying automobiles for like another 7 months

where you live at if you're close enough I can go check ouit the 7G on my craigslist take pics and all but thats if you're seriously interested and not wasting my time or gas. Im just offering to save you gas money.

Why do you say not worth buying? A good running car for $500 is not worth buying? It ran solid when i drove it. i live in Boonville Missouri as far as location goes. And all of the bodywork and paint will be done for around $1000 by the auto collision class at my highschool. So your $1500 in to a good looking, good running car if everything goes smoothley.

Like I said good luck, but I'd say expect issues down the line. That only has 25k less then my truck even though its much newer if it wasnt properly maintained it can turn into a monster repair job 1 thing goes then the next. I hope it isnt that way so good luck

if its total'd thats one thing but if its just minor work and still runs good, thats a steal,as long as you take care of it it'll last a long time, i've heard of a lot of galant lasting way past 200k,and its a galant, not a honda so thats a big plus jaja, and is a perfect canidate for some aftermarkets like, fenders, maybe a cf hood/trunk setup

I wouldn't put that kind of work/money into a car that has 180,000 miles. At that point, it starts to become a real money pit. By the time you've got several thousand dollars in the car, it may have well over 200,000 miles. If you try to sell it at that point, you might get $500...but you won't get $2,500...maybe not even $1,500. I'd keep looking.

Yea i think we may wait....its not at all totaled. The hood is just dented, and a little bit rusted. And the fender and door are dented in from a deer. A mirror is hanging off, and the trunk isnt proporly sealed.

If you purchase the car and the timing belt has never been changed you better do soon. They should be swapped every 80,000 miles. The problem is that changing the timing belt (unless you do it yourself, which is a pain) will cost more than the car is worth. If that goes then your engine will blow.
