So, I've noticed this before on the car and never really addressed it. Until today, when I saw how big and nasty looking it was getting. I tried to work on it but I didnt have enough sand paper and i pretty much killed all the sanding attachments for my dremel. lol

does anyone else's doors look like this?

it's pretty odd since everything else on the car is clean, even under it but the doors are in this shape. I speculate that it's probably my aunt's doing since she had it before me and didn't properly wash the car.

I did, then I tapped it with a screw driver and put a hole through it. The rust has almost eaten through the metal. I'm going to try and keep sanding it off and see if I can get it to bare metal without completely obligerating the door.

mine had rust on the rear doors like that, also had some rust by the strut towers. Had it taken care of when the car was repainted

probably the window sealing is leaking water inside

I agree. I'm going to hunt for a totalled silver 8G with the doors intact.

well the car itself is pretty clean. It's not rust-free but for a car that's been in IL for it's whole life it's pretty clean.

I wanna get it dipped or media blasted sometime in the future after I build the motor. Get it professionally restored.

Mine will turn 10 or 11 years old this year... =\ I will have to check it's birth sticker in the door jamb to be sure.

well, I've noticed it before but I just never got to trying to fix it. then winter came and got lazy. I've always cleaned the car properly. so I'm really not sure how it got like that. but my aunt did own this car before I did and she didn't really care for it much.

Just get black doors to match your black fenders

Cheap way would be cut it out, fill it with kitty hair. Not proper but will work.

Proper way would be cut the that section out and patch it with sheet metal or to replace the door. You also might get away with filling it with lead.

I might do the patch thing.

I was gonna suggest sheet metal but proto beat me to it also if u want since sheet metal can also rust lay down 2 layers of fiber glass maybe a little extra inside with the resin and then bondo and sand its what im doing to some of the body rust on my 89. could make it look flush and its pretty easy.

inspected the other doors. Looks like, passenger front is the worst out of the four. The drivers door is damn near perfect just going to fix the small spots that are starting to rust. The left rear isn't bad either might be able to save it. And you all know what the passenger rear looks. So looks like I might be able to save the left side, the pass front for sure needs to be replaced, and the passenger rear is TBA.

another question, what is that bead on the bottom of the door? is it some kind of silicone or some kind of sealant. If anyone knows, let me know so I can replace it.

You know, a good way to prevent this is to use some white lithium grease. I personally buy some in a spray can and put the little straw attachment on and spray it inside the "weep holes" (not enough to block the holes mind you) and all along the bottom of the door. Then I wipe off the excess while leaving some of the grease in all the little seams, nooks and crannies. It really does the trick. Not a spot of rust on the bottoms of the doors (even through some pretty harsh winters here in PA),,,,,I do wash it frequently in the winter though....sometimes 2 times a week. Just a heads up.

Just a guess, but I think it may be a bead of seam sealer.

I gotta get on that, seeing as i have a little bit of rust down there but its not nearly as bad as his 4g63lover's

Make sure you clean the bottom of the doors with soap when you wash your car then wipe it down good and dry to get all the salt off. My driver's side door has rust but not that bad.

I bought some spray that turns rust into black primer, I'm going to use that to slow the rust down.

I used rust converter on different areas before (both the spray and brush on types),,,it does slow it down,,,but after a while it flaked off and the rust started to come through again.
