Ok.

Well it worked fine until i turned the knob to the cold one day...

This has happened to me before but somehow it started to work again but this time I think its really gone... I dont know what is wrong with it.. anyone has any clue what might have caused this? And how I can fix it?

Thanks!

You need to be more specific? Does the blower not blow any air? Or is it just cold?

If this is a common problem that happens to the 8g accompanied with the Clicking sound you might have noticed earlier. This is the solution -

Yes LOTS of clicking sound.....

Well, there you go, it's the heater actuator control, that you will have to replace. You can see more information in the link I posted.

You can either try getting it from a junkyard and it might stop working for you in a while again. Or you can go with a new one and let it last for another 100K miles. That's what I did. You can get it on eBay as well, but I got it from the dealer for cheaper since I get a discount -

Ok My heater is doing this again! I dont know what it is... could it be the Actulator again? or can it just be my stupid heater core? anyone have any suggestions on what i should do to be able to not freeze my A** off again...

Again I know this is the common problem of the 8G but there has to be a way to fix this once and for all...

here are the symtoms:

Turn air on:
1) AC off
2)Turn to the red side
3) hear clicking nosies from somewhere under or middle of the dash
4) just regular air comes out of vents
5) bang head against steering wheel...
6) log on to TGC for HELP!

Other then that I dont know what else to do. my next step after I get this posted I am going to unplug my car battery to reset my car.. to see if that would cure the problem!

Suggestions before I freeze??

Thanks!

Freeze??? Its only 72 degrees outside and you need the heater? :)

Your best bet is to hit one of those places on Lamb and 15, there are a few galants out there to pick from.

This is the device you're looking for:

http://i14.ebayimg.com/08/i/001/3e/87/9a72_12.JPG

just a small box with a little motor and gears inside, when you turn your knob from cold to hot it activates and opens a valve for hot antifreeze to get to the heater core, thus giving you hot air. its a common problem with these, gears get loose and thats why it makes the noise. i guess there wasnt put much thought into this part by mitsu.

and here is its location:

http://www.akadia.ru/_pages/mitsubishi/index.php?st=80&l=bWFya2V0PT11c2F8fGNvZGU9PTUwRXx8bW9kZWw9PUVBOEF8 fGNsYXNzPT1TUkhFTDRNfHxwbmM9PTU1fHxzdWI9PTAxMHx8YT I9PTAxMDYxfHxpbWc9PTEyMzAxMTAtNTEwMDQyLmpwZw%3D%3D

number 86322, you have to take the top part of the dash to get to it.

i didnt take the top part of the dash out when i changed mine (it probably would have made it a lot easier though)

I've been having the same problem with my 03 G too. Didn't feel like taking off the dash to change the part yet, and banging on the dash didn't help. But I did finally get it working by using my hand and moving the mechanism that the temperature switch operates. If you get down on the floor of the drivers side and pull back the carpet behind the console, you'll see a white plastic "fan shaped" lever that the cable from the temperature switch moves. I forcefully moved it back and forth a few times and then let it stay all the way over to the "hot" side of the temperature switch. Once I turn the car on and turned on the blower, I heard the usually clicking sound and hot air began to come out of the vent. IDK if this will work for you other guys that are having this same problem, but I just using this fix to buy me some time before having to remove the dash and fix it right.

how did u kick the shit out of the car? cause my heater also does not work properly. it blows air, which is somehow hot,but not hot hot. don't have clicking sound and the heater core was replaced last year.

Well... I started kicking at the passenger's front seat, i took the glove box off and started to kick everywhere and then I started to hear clicking sounds and the heater worked.. You can try this if this work GREAT if not... find it and tap if that does not work you might have to change it...

Good Luck!

Now I wonder if I can switch back to cold... ill have to wait till next year YAY!

if you look underneath the passenger side dash (after taking out the glove box and lower dash) you will see that part that was pictured earlier in the thread

but i don't have clicking sounds in my dash!!! the only thing is that my heater heats up very slowly, and only in case if i press the button of interior air circulation (whatever it is called): the button where a car is pictured and an arrow going around!

KaziKai: check my thread on doing the temporary fix on the heat. I had the same problem and fixed it to blow heat all the time (for now).

I'll post here what i found and worked on at GalantForums.....

another good find from the search.
http://fixmymitsu.wordpress.com/
writeup on fixing the heat.

and here too: http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=28510&hl=motor+valve+dash

diaz seemed to fix his: http://www.galantforums.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6928&p=77404#p77404

Temporarily fixed the problem. All I did is nudge the motor with a screwdriver and it moved to the heating side. It did that click click sound and opened the heater. I'm now stuck on heat, but thats alright for the winter. The car was turned on with the heater knob towards max heat.
All I did is take the glovebox out, then I removed the passenger side paneling, and then I could see the little motor on the passenger side.
actually i'll post it here:
CONFIRMED!!!!!!! :D :D :D
I have heat now, using the tutorial and some Vaseline, i have heat in my car again!! :D :D

follow the tutorial and look for this device under the passenger side of the car....
(should look like this if cold air is coming out....)

when i turned the car on and wiggled the metal rod a lil bit, it moved over to the left...

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/run1206/car%20photos/1019091706.jpg

i just finished working on it in my car, look for that metal rod and white lever on the right side on the console and make sure it's pointing to the left (towards the inside of the car and not the firewall). I turned my car on and wiggled the rod a lil bit (kept the turning dial on heat) and magically it moved from the right to the left. Now i have heat, try it out, only need a few tools to get the A/C duct components out of the way. :) :) :) :)

edit: If you want it to go back to cold the whole time, just move the lever of the mechanism TO THE RIGHT (towards the firewall). I did that after the heat was going, turned the dial back to cold, and the cold air worked.

I will. This morning I wiggled the cable under the steering wheel and knocked around inside the glove box under the dash and SHAZZAM I was toasty this morning. :orangecool:
