Trunk setup question

Got a question that I hope someone can help me with.

I have a JL 13w7 in a sealed box pushed by a Kicker ZX750.1 monoblock amp. I believe the amp is a 4 ohm amp, and the sub is a dual 1.5 ohm VC sub. I was wondering what exactly I need to do to get 750 watts through the sub. I got the entire setup from a friend for 500 bux, (sub already in box) so I have no idea how the speaker is wired inside the box. Any help would be awesome, I hear you have to run your speaker wiring a certain way to get full power from the amp. Thanks guys. -Arty

Amps cant be 2 or 4 Ohms. They produce different amounts of power when the sub is 2 or 4 ohms. So if the sub is 2 ohm your amp will be shooting out 750 watts rms, and if its 4 ohm it would be lower. Cruthfield has wiring diagrams so you can get your specific diagram to see how to wire the sub.

Since your sub is dual 1.5 ohm I would suggest just wiring it the same as dual 2 ohm. I just would be worried that it would damage your amp because some amps are not stable at anything less than 2 ohm.

So the only way to wind out would be to pull the sub and take a look?

off the top of my head I think that those JL sub/box combo's are wired to a single 3 ohm load.

So just wire up the sub normally, and you will be pushing close to the full RMS capability of your amp.

i believe it will filter the sound so that only frequencies above 25hz will play, but im not 100% on that. I would put it on, and then turn it off. Listen to how it sounds and see which one you like. You sub will have no problems hitting any note you throw at it so it depends on what you like better

Well, it looks like I can only wire for 3, or 1.5 ohms. At 3, I will make roughly 560Watts. If I wire 1.5 ohms, the amp will shutdown. I wonder if I could find a 750 Watt amp that is 1.5 or 1 ohm stable......

all JL audio amps are stable at 1-4 ohm. you can get a 500.1 or a 1000.1 and it will work with your sub. just look at sonicelectronix and see which amps are capable at 1 ohm, if they say they are then they will be able to handle 1.5 ohm as well. i hope i helped

here is JL audios version of the 750.1, capable of handling 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm. Its pricey but it will get the job done.

Hifonics arnt bad, if i where going to get another amp i would be getting a Rockford. They have some really nice amps for the price.

if that amp is not capable of running @1 ohm stable or lower you will not be able to use this amp if you run that sub @ a 2 or 4 ohm load you will blow it quick. if you go on the jl web site it will give you a ohm calculator hope this helps.

this is why i never went with the w7 i like my old school mtx amp the runs at 4ohms

just to throw it out there im pretty sure that your "friend" may have ripped you off, you could have gotten a nicer system for the same price or cheaper is that a 15?

he did not get ripped off dude, JL audio is expensive. This is his sub and box for 1150 from crutchfield.
