Hey guys, finally ive stopped buying BS parts to make my car look better and ive chosen the better route of going 5 speed. Ive read numerous posts about the swap, tutorials showing how to do it, and i have come across many parts lists of what i need. I will be updating this probably every day! So post your comments thanks guys!

Parts i Have:
FlyWheel: Will need Resurfacing 35$ JY
Clutch Master Cylinder 25$ JY
3g Shifter w/ leather boot 35$
5spd Pedals: 40$
Slave Cylinder: 30$
Passanger Side Axel: 40$
Clutch: EXEDY CLUTCH KIT 01-05 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE SPYDER GT 3.0: $183

Current Total: $388

Parts I Need:
-Manual 5 spd transmission (with tranny mount attached) (3g v6 eclipse)
-Cylinder block plate
shift linkage and cables(3g v6 eclipse)
-2 new axle seals (3g v6 eclipse)

Tips on finding the parts that i will need new Like The Axle Seals, The Shift Cables and Clutch ( anything else?) would be great! im guessing Mitsu Dealer? theres not one close :(

Thanks Guys! Pics soon

i got my cables from club3g, the TOB from mitsupartsdirect.com, the slave and master from rockauto.com, and the pedals and shifter assembly from mko. All I need is the trans itself and some miscellaneous things. but i have my girls prom coming up so im on a break from collecting parts til thats over..

thats a good place, to looks for the trans. but make sure to check your local yeards cuz some of them might not be listed on that site. also check craigslist often I see a lot of tranny's pop-up there.

Funny though, when I see one i dont have the money for it, when I do have the money for it, it's a PITA to find one. lol

so i found a trans locally for 400$. The only problem is that on the bottom there is a small chip in the rectangle area. Heres a pic, do you guys think it would be able to be welded up?

Yeah that would suck to get it and have a tranny leak, really take your time and examine it.

Oh and about the axle seals,(tip from TJ) in all honesty if the seals look ok, dont worry about replacing, he said that they can be a bitch getting in because they have to fit near perfect and if you mess up youll have a leak. Just FYI.

EDIT: Oh and yeah, hit me up if you need any advice or help, id be more then willing to help :) and please point out any real grey areas on my how to. I want that thread to really make the swap simple

Eventually, not in the near future i want my G to be boosted. So should i go with a stage 2 clutch in the chance i do go turbo later?

i been running a turbo clutch on my car since i cant even remember, mind you i do all the launches and stuff that most racers would do(lotta honda needed a lesson) but i also plan to be boosted this summer and since the clutch would already be in, it would save alot of time and headache.

depends on the brand...if your boost goal is in the nearer future i would get an upgraded clutch now however if it is not for a while or you are unsure, then get an oem clutch or similar.

Ok so ive decided to go with the OEM clutch from a 3g. I will buy it new unless i find one with low mileage.

Parts i Have:
Clutch Master Cylinder 25$ JY
Slave Cylinder: 30$

the master cylinder brand new is $38 and the slave is $25 and the throw out bearing is $25, i wouldnt have spent that money at the JY for those used

oh btw why do you put the "$" after the amount and not before ??

I dont see any reason why you would put an OEM clutch in the car. There are so many other options out there. Why not get a ACT street clutch or a spec street clutch. They will have more torque holding capacity than stock and feel just slightly stiffer.

Sounds like you have a good start on this swap so far rev. I am going to follow your swap as I want to do the same here soon. As far as the choice of clutches go, you really don't need to upgrade to an aftermarket one if you don't plan to boost the car say until later in the year. If you are looking to boost the engine over the course of the summer months then I would suggest it as a better investment now to buy aftermarket.

I'm going with the exedy since I don't know how to really drive stick and I don't wanna ruin an expensive clutch

rockauto my dealership also quoted me around that price

wow. My dealership told quoted me $80 for a TOB.

I would've bought the one from Rockauto but I was told not to use anything besides OEM.

FYI, non OEM TOBs are just fine. OEM clutches are just fine for non boosted cars. A Fidanza 2.1 kit, ACT 2100, or some other streetable clutch is good also.

the TOB that came with my ACT EVO clutch kit was an OEM bearing, we laid the new one side by side with the old OEM one and they have the same markings and part#'s etched into them.

thats where I got it your thread about your TOB losing it.

I think Seth mentioned TOB's should be OEM but dont quote me on that.

The Fidanza ran on the GS + the 2G and it's still fine. I've installed auto part store TOBs without them failing also.

any aftermarket clutch would do, but you need the OEM throw bearing that is a must.

DryBear
04-21-2009, 06:16 PM
FWIW, the TOB that came with my Spec Stage 2 Clutch was OEM - I also compared it to an OEM TOB and they were identical.
