But is it good for the G?

mko

Oh they are good, but not with auto tranny. Jamesgalant who is member here had a thread about these and he complained that it has way too much vibration. I have researched in DSM sites and they say the vibration disappears after few weeks. I just got mine installed and indeed there is a vibration, but im 5 spd and its not that annoying. When I rev the engine it doesnt move back and forth at all.

i have polyurethane mounts put in my 8g and i love it! it works really well keeping your engine in place. most people dont like them because the steering whell vibrates alittle more and the extra noise. which i havent noticed at all after the installation.

Ok so there is some good and some bad to it... My problem is that I live in vegas.. and its freaking dry here. and rubber mounts tends to crack... So I was trying to find out if there is a way to stop me from buying $480 worth of mount that would just crack in a few months or so..

I've had urethane mounts for several years and love them. Yea there's a little vibration, but not that much more than I had when I installed the cam. I'd suggest buying the full mounts instead of the inserts only because removing the old mounts and installing the inserts in the holders is a pain in the ass. Spending the extra for the full mounts is worth the cost IMHO.

Its not that bad. me and icedout did mine in 3 hours in a rainy day on Monday

The main factor for the vibrations is because the material used is much thick density and removes the "wiggle" affect you get with rubber material. The same stuff has been used in suspension (obviously) for a number of years now to reduce the roll and increase the handling. The vibration may be a bit annoying, but with the less "twist" or movement from the engine and powertrain you will get better reaction times at the track, and you will notice a better "pull" throughout the rpm range as the engine and transmission wont have so much "give." Basically you will feel more power instead of the little bits of "lag"

Sweet, I didnt realize how cheap the inserts are, i might just upgrade cause my tranny and front roller definitely need to be replaced

I thought i read on C3G that they stopped selling those?

But ive got the poly mounts in my Eclipse and am getting ready to install them in my Stratus. I love them, they are 10x better then the stock mounts. Yes there is vibration with the automatics (My eclipse is auto) But after about 5000 miles on them my vibration is only there when its cold out. So it almost completly went away after awhile.

I dont think you will regret them at all.

Fishboy55
04-21-2009, 10:12 PM
Yea im pretty sure deyeme stopped selling them a while back.

PinoyESV6 made his own if I recall...you may be able to put him under contract

yep. i made my own. i got the urethane at mcmaster.

if you have time, then you can make your own. waiting for the stuff to cure is the time consuming part.

This keeps bothering me too. It would be much easier to purchase the entire mount with the inserts installed already. That is the only thing thats stopping me from getting polyurethane mounts. I really want them because i'm going 5-spd soon but I dont have extra mounts or another car. If something goes wrong while trying to get those mounts in, thats down time that I cant afford.

IceDouTGaLanT
04-22-2009, 12:41 AM
hmm would you guys buy the ones MKO posted, if I installed them into the mounts?

Sure Ron.. But I'm a V6..

IceDouTGaLanT
04-22-2009, 12:49 AM
oh yeah, figured i grab mounts from the yard, fill them in & sell them. Shit i personally rather do that, then spend 1-2 hours getting that stuiped rubber out! I might do this soon, i did it with MKO monday not too hard, prob do the easy ones my self. Cause i do have crazy wheel hop, so if this helps then im sold! and after seeing MKO motor not move when he revs, and mine does i think this is a great investment.

Yeah but he's talking about getting the mounts and the inserts and doing them himself, then we would purchase them from him. So for us, the hard part is done..

Cool I'll see how much I can grab these from the yard for,you can buy them stright out or we can have an core exchange once you remove and install these. I'll make a thread once I get prices shouldn't be too expensive anyhow.

Let me get this straight....

Poly Mounts:
They are better for the car or not?
What are the benifits from having poly vs. rubber mounts?
Will there be a hard vibration on the car causing something to break?
Or
Will the vibration be gone after a while?

Cause I have 2x 2.4 I4 Auto 8G.. I been reading and some says its bad for Auto Trans.

mko
04-22-2009, 02:14 PM
i'm 5-speed but it seems that most poly kits don't include the tranny mount insert. Just the engine mounts!! wtf

edit: am i reading this right; does this kit include the tranny mount insert?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROTHANE-ECLIPSE-4-CYL-00-05-MOTOR-MOUNT-NEW-FREE-SHIP_W0QQitemZ200331563083QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor s_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20033156308 3&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

The kit has Engine full insert, tranny full insert, front roll stopper full insert and rear roll stopper insert that goes into the rubber mount. these are not full engine mount - aluminum frame and prothane insert, they just sell the inserts

ok, these are not polyurethane mounts. the company that deals with polyurethane is Energy suspension. These are prothane mounts and the material is stronger and tougher than polyurethane.

Since the auto tranny generates more vibration than manual, its natural to feel more vibration when installing one of these kits, but then you need to decide what level of comfort you want to experience in your car and how much discomfort youre ready to deal with. I personally dont care if it vibrates, cuz i want my car to be a DD with a lil touch of performance. Nothing will break when using these mounts and when i researched it, everyone said that vibration goes away after a few weeks. for more advantages please read some of the previous posts

Wait so what's so bad about installing the inserts? Getting the old rubber out and then the prothane mounts don't like to slide in easy??

IceDouTGaLanT
04-22-2009, 02:38 PM
To get the old rubber out is alot of work, we set them on fire and then sledge hammer & chisel to take it out. I wish it was as easy to just pop them out, theirs very easy to insert the polyurethane back in just the taking out part. I wonder if theirs a easier way, i tried youtube it but got nothing. Kazi i will pm, you when i have some free time & buy the equipment to do this.

well, the rubber mount is actually an insert. it has a metal ring that gets pressed into the aluminum frame. in order to install the prothane insert you have to get rid of the rubber, so when you hammer it out the chisel doesnt bounce back.

there is an easy way to get them out, but you need a hydrolic press

yes, you need to get rid of the rubber so you have a better access to the ring

That's why I said it was such a bitch to use the inserts. Ron, I used almost half a tank of propane to burn out the first one and then said screw it and sold the inserts. I believe you may need a press to get the inserts in as well as out like Chris mentioned, but don't quote me on that.

roll stoppers need to be pressed in, but it has been done with a vise

table mounted vise and some lube is good enough to put the inserts in. I have mine already and I just aquired 3 mount when I bought my tranny. I will attempt this soon and I will take plenty of pics for reference to help other

Ok cool, I'm just gonna make some calls and see if I have a friend with a hydraulic press and make my life easier. And how hard is it to remove the only mount attached to the motor?

The other three wont be too bad but I've never tried the motor one.

my question is: are the V6 and I4 Inserts the same?

they're realatively easy to do...check the garage section on c3g on how to do it without a press...i used a sawzall to just cut the center of the mount out so it was easier to bend...then i used a god screwdriver and hammered it in between the mount and the metal ring that surrounds the mount. getting the new ones in is easy, the front and rear just hammer in place

Strizi81

When you have a friend with a press you are in minuts ready with them, they don't need much pressure to press out.

I pressed mine yesterday out easy job.

The Prothane kit that i need to get for my 2002 I4 is the same as the 2000-2005 eclipse right, on hpfreaks.com it says the kit is for manual transmissions only, i also contacted someone on eBay about the prothane kit and he said that prothane only make kits for the manual 4cyl eclipse, not the automatic.
