I recently bought a 1999 silver Galant ES.
I'm looking into cosmetic as well as peformance mods that won't completely kill my wallet. Any suggestions?

Hey welcome to TGC.

First, look through the Member's Rides section to help you build an idea of what you would like to do cosmetically and what's available. Then, you can browse the tutorials section for simple performance mods like an intake and exhaust to start you off.

i would never buy anything that i couldnt hear first on someone else's car lol
but i think a couple of people have bought those and had them for a short period of time then went to magna flow for a less ricey sound

My friend has an exhaust by the same seller on his 240sx, and it sounds really nice. He said it was easy as hell to install, and he took it to shops and they didn't believe how much he paid for it.
And yeah, I might eventually go the magnaflow route, I just don't have the money atm.
I'll post pics of my car soon...pretty funny. :P

no problem!
i also would recommend getting a ported box...mine's sealed and it distorts way earlier than it would if it could push all that air out.

im a car audio installer so i know a lil bit about this kind of stuff i just havnt realy done too much with the new and improved kenwood stuff and from the looks of it they still have a while to go. i go for the big stats 2000 true watts or more

Oh, yeah definitely man. I mean mine sounds decent, but I think I should've gone with the Crunch amp instead.
And I have no idea on the cubes. All I know is that it's a q-logic.

Welcome :) always nice to have another member on board !

as far as exaust goes myself, i just bought a OBX muffler, then had a local shop make me a custom 2.3/4 " exaust . Was definaty a cheaper route, and i wanted to keep my cat, just because i havent heard of it really improving much , and throws on a check engine light, i spent total, 170 $ for my custom exaust, and it sounds very very nice !

as well as cold air intakes can cheap and easy ! and noticible power gains thats for sure ;)

best thing over all i did, performance wise, was drop my car, that was the biggist change, handles likea porche and gets way more power to the ground, Im trying to find some poly urathane motor mounts to elimate more motor roll, and get more power to the ground, As i plan on doing the 5 spd swap ;) there are so much, so i agree, look around the pics, and get an idea of what you want to do, then check threw the tutorials !

Thanks guys!
And yeah, that one I'm looking at sounds a tad bit ricy, but not too bad. Do you think I should go CAI before I get the catback? I'm on limited funds at the moment.
And hell yeah, I'm looking at dropping mine ~1.5", I think it'll make a big difference. How expensive would that be?

Haha, that's the only place I can park. I have to park to the side of the driveway so the other cars can get out. And yeah, the rims...I'm definitely going to replace. I get unending amounts of grief from my friends (all 240sx owners =P) about them.

Update: Finally getting new rims. 16" Motegi's from my friend. The chrome was flaking off these rims and puncturing the tires.
Glad I finally have an excuse to get new rims. My friend's asking 100 for the rims+75% tires.

as far as the exhaust, search eBay for the Megan cat-back. it's what i have on my car, should be 370 shipped. intake you can get there for about 60 shipped.

Thanks for all the welcomes!
And 370 is a little steep for me atm, I'm trying to get some 30% tint, intake, and coilovers so I can't really afford that...
I've seen ebay catbacks for like 160 shipped, are those any good?

its the same..i just dont wna risk it having a cheap no name filter. heatshield would be good or hydro shield by injen... but ive been driving my car through the rain and snow so far i havent hav any problems at all wit no heatshield or hydro shield. even after being soaked at the car wash mine runs pretty good after wit no worries! but im planning to buy atleast one of those shields tho jus to be safe.

btw lowering your car is a good start too :)

Haha yeah, I posted it up a few weeks ago. I live in Cobb County, if you know where Johnson Ferry and Roswell Rd. intersect...that's about two minutes from my house. And definitely let me know on the muffler shop...I'd much rather go with a shop than ebay garbage!

It depends on how much you want to lower it but you must search, the forum is full of info on nearly every mod you can think of. Theres many users sporting Tein S. tech that give you like 1.7 front 1.3 rear. The mildest of the drops are given by the Eibach Pro Kit, and the biggest drop by lowering springs is obtained by the Progress Springs but do some research in the forum.

yea i know pretty much where that is i dont get down there much but that shop is right in canton which is just right up 575 so it would be about a 45 or so min drive for you its called cherokee muffler they do really good work for cheap, if you pay with cash they wont charge you tax, they did my galant and my maxima and that were all my friends go. oh and if you need new tires i know a place thats on sandy springs road that does really good deals for tires too

Wow I forgot about this thread. Well here's an update!
I was selling her to get a 240sx...after literally about 20 tire kickers in a row and "definite sales" that fell through last minute, I've decided to keep her. My plans are to lower her, put a catback on, fix the passenger window motor, figure out why my horn isn't working, maybe try and somehow wrap the armrest in something woodgrain to match the radio trim/door trims, and maybe after all of that 5spd swap. :]
I was looking at Tein lowering springs, but some of my 240sx friends told me that if I run lowering springs, I'll blow my stock shocks up. Is this true? I really don't wanna spend $900+ on coilovers...

Another update. I measured the gap between my tires and fender and I have a 3.5" gap in the front and a 2" gap in the rear. I'm thinking about getting the Tein S-Tech 1.7" front and 1.3" rear lowering springs. If I plan on getting an eBay cat, do you think I should get the cat first to measure and make sure I have dropping room or should I not have any problem?
