So Got the cherry picker today And go the engine out. Also test fitted it in the clip to see what we would need to bend remove or move.

Just the basic beat in the firewall and move the brake lines up, but we encountered another problem. On my mirage the dump pipe was sitting up against the steering rack figured it would be okay sine the racks are just mirrored WRONG. The Evo rack is totally different from the mirage rack it only mounts the same in 1 o the 2 spots, so in other words im going to have to have custom Dumps made and a new downpipe so it will clear the steering rack.

Other wise its good

Oh snap :dancingnaughty:

It fits LOL Kinda.

So put a block of wood over the front of the proportioning valve and hit it with a sledge few times and BAM
Also bent the PS lines a little back, the only problem now is the Dump pipe it sits on top of the Steering rack were the steering column meets the rack. so i have to take the dump and have it cut and moved alittle then make a custom down pipe. no big deal.

Why did you chop the front off the mirage ?

All the parts from the evo bolt on to that car from stock. The guards and bumper support just need to be modified thats all.

QnzMostWanted

went from LHD to RHD

Goku
07-16-2009, 05:14 PM
Yes but you can still do that without cutting the front off :)
They do that conversion here with a few american cars easily enough.

To be honest with you I would have figured there was a much easier way to do it, you could have just swapped out everything from the evo4 cut and put it into the mirage (lancer) with much less stress and hassle. Plus the structual integrity of the car would be much better.

Even swapping the drive from LHD to RHD would have been a snap, all you need to do is cut a hole on the other side, take the evo 4 parts off, put them into the mirage, weld up the hole for the original parts and bam you're done.... well for the most part.

Even swapping the drive from LHD to RHD would have been a snap, all you need to do is cut a hole on the other side, take the evo 4 parts off, put them into the mirage, weld up the hole for the original parts and bam you're done.... well for the most part.

If you would of read some of my posts instead of just looking at the posts you would know why.

My aprons were rusted all the way through in the front as well as a few structure points, Considering i needed to go RHD to fix my AC/Heat and wire harness issue i figured replacing the whole front becuase of the rust would be more sufficient.

I actually just strengthened to weakest part of the Evo/Mirage.

Goku

I did read that, but cutting and welding the front end is a far bigger job than repairing the rust. Plus it does make the front end weaker in the long run.

You could have still gone RHD and fixed your other issues quite easily, just by swapping the evo parts over.
However, I do see where you are coming from, to me there would have been a different way to go, but everyone has differnt ideas.

In the end it will be what you want it to be, so as long as you're happy with it :D

It was just to much work, this was allot faster 2 give you any idea ive only put about 8 hours of work into this car to get it to where you see it.

Also remove that black pipe on the right in the last pic and use a full sized either 2.5" or 3", that's a huge power loss right there.

looking good, do you know what wheels/tires, brakes, suspension will be on the car?

right now its on 14" streelies in back and 13" steelies in front with tokico blues on stuck springs with DE front disks and rear drum brakes.

I plan on finding some 17" wheels and some nice rubber with spacers and some lowering springs to hold me over till spring of next year.

Then its.
Evo 4 front knuckles
Evo 4 LCA's
Evo 5 brembos and DBA rotors
Eclipse GSX rear calipers and disks
Mirage GT Brake adapter
Evo 4 Rear hub
Tien Evo 4 coilovers
MB Competition in 17X8 +28 with some nice tires.

Goku
08-21-2009, 01:10 AM
If you're going to run evo 4 rear hubs, why not use brembo's all round ?

Also that rim offset will not clear the brembo calipers on the front, they need to have a 35 offset or a spacer.

Gly

+28 is more out from the car than +35

I will be running just the bearing aka hub in the rear meaning i'm still running the Mirage rear LCA i have to run a Mirage GT caliper bracket and i can only run eclipse or 6G galant rear disks.

Yes, I know that it's just about more than offset, but I had the impression that a +35 offset was the minimum and the numbering went up not down for more clearance. Then again wheels are not my forte :P
Plus I know that you have a hell of a lot more knowledge about the wheel/tyre/brembo combinations than most people.

in regards to positive off set, the higher the number the closer the wheel in moved in,
the smaller/lower the number the further it move out

so if offset was the only issue with brembos the the smaller the +offset the better
and +38 would the most positive off set you could run (i assume) as this is what factory evo wheels are....

so if you added a 5mm spacer to a +40 offset wheel,
you effectively end you with a +35 offset wheel,

if that makes sence to you?

Cant do that If i get into a collision and they do an inspection I will get counter sued and go to prison for 15+ years + fines

So they won't be "totally clueless" really...

Actually they cant come back on you for any of it. Because the VIN is what they use for appraising the vehicle for resale/damages, they also use that for insuring the vehicle, as well as state DMV registration. They will ask what the dollar amount is for the needed extra parts coverage, but beyond that they cannot "redo" your rates as a turbo vehicle because the vehicle is still registered to the state DMV as it was when it came off the production line and has to be insured as such as the per the specific state's requirements of insurance coverage (liability and so on). All you have to do is specifiy the parts, and the cost and they basically insure them...no change on the actual rate of the vehicle from N/a to forced induction, only change in the rate is from the dollar amount of added coverage.

The only reason you would be counter sued would be for fraud on the insurance claim, but as long as the items are on the policy and covered by your monthly premiums they can't do a damn thing. Its essentially the same type of coverage for a stereo system inside your vehicle if it were stolen, your insurance covers it if you have that listed on the polic, you pay your deductable and they reimburse you the remaining amount.

I should also note that I did the same thing with a Grand Prix that was totalled a few years back. The engine was completely swapped out for a newer one that was supercharged. Added the coverage on my policy and when they came out to do the estimate they basically paid off my loan, and had money from the coverage to actually go out and buy an Eclipse with cash in had for around $3500.

Also just settled a claim within the last few months on my Harley accident and the added coverage I had covered all of the aftermarket work done to the bike.

How much if you dont mind me asking? Also you're saving alot on labor by doing things yourself. I dont have the extensive skill & knowledge, nor the time or facilities for this kind of work. But if I did, boy would I have done it by now! :D

Just saw your first drive vid. Mad props on getting it running, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of steering wheel is that?

The car is actually mostly together now all the interior is in just waiting for a windshield to be put in and a few other parts.

Hmmm.... I wouldn't be revving up to 4-5k rpm when it's not up to running temp yet, you'll probably find that was the cause of the misfire. The ECU retards the timing when it's cold so you don't damage the engine.

It was at optimal temp I had it running for over 2 hours strait only 10 minutes before that video was made.

Really ?

The temp gauge was showing it was cold, then about a quarter. They are ment to run at about half the temp gauge when warmed up.

Just seemed a lil' odd was all, must be due to the conversion and the evo temp sensor being different.

yea the motor in the cluster seems to be abnormally slow.

it was slowly rising to opt temp the whole time but it was more then optimal lol

I would never rev a cold engine.

Yea, it seems really weird, I had another look at the vid, and it is moving very slowly, but you can tell by the idle that it is warm.

Have you had anymore issues with the misfire at all ?

Due to it being FWD instead of AWD, you'll be able to gain power a bit easier, due to the lower transmission loss.

Did some wiring a few months ago basically got no where, sorry to say but the VR4 community is so small info is not plentiful and ontop of that all the sites are pay now.

The combination of the fact the ECU in the VR4 is MUTII gives me millions of problems ive been daily driving this car for sometime and every time its something else.

Im soon switching to a USDM 3000GT VR4 ecu and doing a repin and tune to fix Mitsubishi's screw up on using a bad and outdated protocol.

MUTII protocol huh? What problems you having? You may be able to log it if you connect the OBDII to the ECU.

JDMFTW
10-21-2010, 04:49 PM
^ I have connectivity problems, same issues guys in the UK and Aussy land are having, the ECU's are pure garbage.

Only a few have managed to be lucky to have one the works and is flashable.

my problem is basically this im throwing a CEL under normal driving. but i cant read the code as it wont connect even using evo scan with the correct cable.

now here is the fun part, all my sensors test ok BUT a cold start the car takes some finagling to get it to start. and if its below 50 degrees it wont start at all you have to use ether/starting fluid to get it to fire.

Ive even replaced sensors for no reason also did a tune up running new NGK plugs etc, now after the car runs for awhile if I go to shut it off and try to start it it tries to flood itself out so i have to give it WOT to start after this happens NO CEL and the car idles at 3200 (yes 3,200) RPM's

I really have no clue whats going on nor can i read it to figure out.

luckily Mante runs a AEM ecu for a 3000gt so my attempt will be to use just the oem ecu and reflash it. this probably wont be till later as i want to just start fresh with it in the correct chassis.

6A13 no more. swapping to a 4G63

Car is going into the garage next week redoing the rockers and finish up the exterior Evo 5 with evo 4 spoiler.

then doing a mild wire tuck on the body harness goals for the engine are HKS 272 850cc injectors FP green and E85 should yield me in the 400hp range.

Ill update with pics as i start the tear down.

good choice. there is/was a legit Evo 4 on ebay i was looking into

Evo 4 blocks are prone to crank-walk if you dont install a better oil cooler and if you use too aggressive of a clutch

The pistons are only good for 18PSI Im going with Evo 9 pistons and Manley H beam rods.

I got my Evo 4 long block for free lol
