i am inheriting my Dads 97 Galant ES with 124l miles on it. It has been maintained for most of its life and in very good condition. I really like the car and it handles far better than my 02 jetta wagon that has suspension mods. Anybody want a jetta wagon...lol

What should i do before driving it from Long Island to Ohio. A typical tune up and checlk all fluids etc???? Any ideas?

if it has been maintained like you say then a tune up should be enough.

-Check all fluids like oil, transmission, and coolant.
-check brakes
-inspect tires (do a rotation if necessary)
-check tire pressure
-before you fill up before the trip...put in a can of a good fuel system cleaner before filling up. (I recommened Techron fuel system cleaner)

Check those belts too...Timing and BALANCE SHAFT! The BS belt is an engine killer

Thanks for the tips. i will look over my parents records and see what needs to be done :). I actually look forward to being a part of this group and hopefully turning this car into a fun back roads driver.

Well I got the galant all tuned up, and will be hitting the road soon. Only thing I wish I had is sirius or xm radio. but the cd player, and a scan buttun will have to do. there are some sweet AM stations in Western PA along 76 and 70...lol.

well i made it home with no troubles. I racked up 705 miles in 10.5 hours and averaged about 34 miles to the gallon. I will say the car does need a distributor seal and some new suspension.

My plans are to add a rear sway bar, Shocks, struts and springs (will need recommendations), and exhaust. I woudl also like to add some 15" or 16" wheels (lightweight) and sticky summer rubber. We will see as my son is due in a week and money will not be flowing freeley for a while unless I sell my 02 jetta wagon
