I just got my set, and it's not quite what I expected.

First problem, the rates are 10kg/6k (older rates) while they were advertised as 8kg/6kg. I was going to replace the springs for 7kg Swifts anyway, only problem is I'm not sure if that's going to be any good for the damper. I wonder if I should ask for the shocks paired with the 8kg set, or are these valved the same anyway just with different springs.

Second: I was under the impression the rear springs should be 180mm. These are 200mm, and that's also what's on the paper that came with them. Could someone confirm the correct length? I already ordered 180mm replacement ones from Swift, and can't cancel the damn order...

The mounting tab for the front sway bar is welded onto the body at an angle relative to the big "ears", and the finishing on the body is different from the rear, so I assume this is at least the newer, corrected design?

Thanks

The shock (damper) shouldn't be any different no matter what the spring rate is.

I've never myself seen any information that said they were 180mm or 200mm springs. And I'm not really sure why you wanted them changed anyways? Are you trying to get MORE lowering out of the setup?

Can you get a picture of what you are talking about here? It is not that easy to understand as described...

let me tell you the 10k/6k spring combo is going to get kind of annoying.

Thats the spring set I have on my Teins and it gets bouncy at times.

Although, when aggressively driving, the 6k helps the car avoid skipping during the apex or if you're pushing it on an exit ramp. I'm planning to get 8K Stance springs for my coilovers and it should correct the bounciness but still keep the aggressiveness.

So it's bittersweet. Bitter for daily driving, sweet when you wanna have fun.

Thanks for all the inputs so far. Here's some more info and some pics.

First, the mounting tabs. Older sets had the mounting tab for the front sway bar link welded onto the lower portion at a 90 degree angle relative to the big mounting tabs (the ones that go on the hub, with the 18mm and 24mm bolts). On the stock strut it's around 135 degrees. The difference on the megans was enough, so people had a hard time bolting up the sway bar links, and when they did, they broke them rather fast. It's been stated that megan corrected this problem. After looking up pics of the older megans, I believe mine are the corrected ones.

The springs. I was under the impression the newer megans came with 8k/6k springs, and that's how they were advertised in the auction I bought them from. I myself wanted a relatively higher rate in the rear to help with turning and help with our heavy rear. So I was thinking 8/7 (ala jic) or 7/6. I decided to try a 7/6 first because I have a family to haul around. Also, the megan springs are not exactly the best quality. For one, despite being linear, a dyno test showed that the rate is not consistent. The Swift springs are superior when it comes to that. Because of the better material used they also have less coils, so less chance for them binding. They are an all around better quality spring.

As far as the length goes, all the megans for our cars I've seen had 180mm springs in the back, so that's what I ordered. However mine came with 200mm ones. The rubber boots on the pistons were also clearly made for the 180mm springs, as the way they are right now they are short.

Now to the shocks. The megan dampers (just like most out there) are advertised to be able to handle a +-2k spring. You go beyond that range and you are going to damage the damper. So for the front, a shock that is valved for a 10k spring should take anything between 8k and 12k. At the same time if these were valved for a 8k spring, and they just mixed up the front springs, my 7k spring would be still within the dampers range.

I've got a response back from megan, that I think is just an excuse for them for what looks like a bad mixup. The fact that the model numbers from the box these came in were also removed/ covered up further supports that. (The uncovered model number wasn't the correct one.)
